| Hmm... well all my exes have been sterotyped as "geeky"/"Tomboys", apart from one and she was so girly she made Paris Hilton look butch - she REALLY annoyed me, and later chested on me with some muscly type - ah well.
The answer then, is yes. Though I find personality types more attractive than their interests. I mean if we have some things in common - great, but if not well that can be interesting too. I do think that cateogorising all tomboy types as borderline homosexual is very small minded though. I have a few lesbian friends (online and offline) and unless you went up to them and asked them, you wouldn't be able to point to them and go "There! She likes Angelina Jolie more than me!". Besides, why should who they share their bed with be ny of our business 
Hmm.. by that definition I'm DEFINATELY homosexual, I don't mind housework, can cook moderately well, love DDR, and find Will and Grace moderately funny (I have a soft spot for Karen, god help me ) |

| Since when did playing videogames/programming become a masculine activity? I've never once thought a girl was butch because she could design a webpage or liked to play mario brothers.
I can be friends with "tomboys", which to me is a girl who wears guys clothes, is loud and obnoxious, works on cars, and goes hunting every season. But they have no hope of a romance with me, they will be forever doomed to the "friends zone". To really get me interested a girl has to be feminine, i cant stress that enough. Men are repulsive to me, so why would i want a girl pretending to be a guy? |

| I was a computer science major at university. Yes, there were more guys than girls in my major, but there were still lots of girls, and lots of ATTRACTIVE girls
programming just isn't a particularly macho activity, as far as i can tell. With games it just depends on what game your playing, some games maybe are more guy-oriented, but there are tons of unisex games out there, many of them among the best games of all time. Being a nerd/geek/techie isnt particularly feminine, but it also isnt particularly macho either. Its neutral. |

As a grown up, I don't consider fixing my car (a term I use very loosely in my case) to be a "masculine" thing to do, it's just me trying to get by and keep it running. I don't consider any of the "handyman" things I do to be an effort to be masculine either... it's just being a single woman, if it breaks, who ELSE is going to fix it? 
There might be some girls trying to be boys, but most tomboys are girls that are just being themselves. |

| I know they are'nt really trying to be guys (like growing a penis or anything *L*) But in my mind its hard to think of a girl wearing all guys clothes everyday who is also a grease-monkey who loves to fix up old motorcycles as being a woman. Yes i know technically she still is, and i'm very happy lots of guys like that and will date her, because i would have a hard time with it. The girl i date has to smell like a woman, look like a woman, and behave like a woman, at least most of the time. Else i'll lose romantic/sexual interest in her. Does'nt mean i hate her or anything, just not interested in a BF/GF type relationship, sorry.
I dont know Tarale, a girl trying to fix something out of necessity is not a tomboy to me anymore than i'm a tammygirl when i clean the house up or make dinner. Its a matter of degree to me, if the girl sits around belching, scratching her crotch and reading guns & ammo, then she is a tomboy. If she plays softball, does minor home repairs not because she wants to, but because she has to, etc., but she still has sex appeal, wears panties, is generally more neat/organized than i am, smells good, etc. than she is just a ordinary girl. |

Hmm.... you seem to have a dislike of the more extreme tomboys then.  Like with everything, there are varying degrees. And people go through phases too, so sometimes they might be more "tomboyish" than others.
I have my moments. Sometimes I obsess over home decoration. Sometimes I obsess over my lack of an R33 Skyline to hoon about in. Sometimes I obsess over getting my cooking right, sometimes I obsess over RAID-5'ing my hard drives. Sometimes I dress in jeans and a tshirt and sit around drinking beer and belching, sometimes I dress in a flowery sundress and stand around at parties sipping champagne and not belching. |

| I think really the issue here may be somewhat regarding little more than terminology. I think that a discussion of this really needs a bit more defining terms than we've done, since that seems to be the basis of most of the disagreements. What are the factors that make a girl a "tomboy"? Which are "necessary" factors, and what is sufficient to establish a girl as one? | |||

| I'd like to know what is defined as the "social expectations normally placed on a female" as well then.
I'd guess with things like Barbie Dolls and Bratz Dolls that are given to female children, one of the social expectations of girls is that they pay a high amount of attention to, and devote a large amount of time to, hair, makeup and clothes.  And there are definitely a lot of women that do when they grow up; there's a massive, MASSIVE beauty industry, and huge fashion industry too. Women are bombarded with images of beautiful, pencil-thin people, the message being that that's how we're all supposed to be.
And part of the reason I've been labelled a "tomboy" growing up and now is that I couldn't give a flying fuck about any of it. I think I decapitated Barbie. My brother's wooden truck with the squeaky wheel was more fun. I dress neatly, I keep my hair reasonably tidy, but I don't fuss over my clothes like some... In school, there was also an expectation that girls didn't play certain sports. Netball was okay, but apparently the fact that I played Soccer got me labelled too (and it got me a weird sticker from the teacher promoting girls in sports)
There's more stuff too.... but I need to do my washing now.  |

| Tomboys can be great, if they have like a HUGE girly side to them, so basically like a girl that can do some of the stuff guys can do, but are still very much girly as well, but yeah I like tomboys if they fall under what I said...

| I used to love tomboys, but...now I only like them as friends and never get crushes on them.
Don't know why. Maybe because I got rejected by the biggest tomboy in our high school class. Or maybe because I've realized just how metro-sexual I am and a tomboy wouldn't really dig that. |

| I like tomboys. I can just get along with them better than a girl who will spend 10 hours doing her makeup. The thing is tomboys jsut seem to make better friends. I'm friends with a girl who is jsut as good as me at messing around with car engines wich is pretty cool... I think shes addicted to grease and stuff. | |||
