I think that'll probably be possible And dragonsbrethern could you try to be on AIM in about 2-3 hours? I'll be giving a new copy to my beta testers then.

So far, from what I've seen, MZME is shaping up to be a great editor. It's still pretty rough in some aspects, graphics are a little garbled, some rooms don't load, but that will change in time. I'm really looking forward to making a hack with this editor

Thought it was about time i add a comment. I'm loving the work. This being the very beginning of your editr means there is plenty to show off and its great that you do just that.

Respectable to see how much you have accomplished in the last few weeks and i am looking forward to playing around with this upon release.

Something which i hadn't noticed in the header editor was the ability to add the rain affect in areas. I'm assuming that this is just a background? also do you have any plan to add a graphics editor into MZME?

I tried to catch you on AIM tonight, interdpth, I thought about something after I signed off last night. I'd like the ability to copy an entire room to another one, it would help making new rooms that replace older ones.

Palette editing would be nice too, I'm not good with graphics but a new palette can give an area a fresh look.

Also, has anyone looked into the starting point? Will it be possible to start at the ship, like Super Metroid?

Well Samus starts in crateria, but she appears inside her ship, and that tells the game to go down and start in Brinstar. I bet what you could do is have a totally empty room in the sky where you start, and if I can change where you land, maybe it could be done so you land in crateria. Of course currently it's useless, as all passages are blocked, but with editing it could be possible.

Zero Mission is one of my most favourite games, and I always wanted a level editor for that... keep it up!

(About how much percent do you think you have approximately done?)

What about events? You know how when you return to Brinstar from Kraid's Lair (or is it Norfair?) the wall/statue on the right crumbles and reveals a path? It would be awesome if the editor could allow the hacker to make walls crumble at will. Or maybe something simpler..You know how when traveling down an elevator shaft, a brief "cut-scene" showing off Mother Brain awakening or Ridley in his ship arriving happens. Maybe the editor could allow the hacker to allow for more of these scenes and allow them to happen at different times, like when going thru a door or when picking up a power-up.

Another great feature would be returning bosses. As in you fight Kraid early in the game..then later he pops up again..stronger of course. Metroid games have the best boss fights ever, Id love to add more boss encounters, imagine fighting all the bosses from Fusion and Zero Mission...

Keep up the fantastic work interdpth, I eagerly wait your next update.

MZM has events set up in an interesting way. First of all, there are sprites, 2 changes to sprites can occure in one room. These are done by event switches. Second, if a room is to change, that is done by changing the door index to a new one. It too worked on events, so you could make it so after you get an item, entering into the previous room, you see a rockslide occure, or maybe the room is filled with acid, or you see an energy tank that wasn't there before.

The crumbling walls that occure after ridley and Kraid are sprites which are set to trigger upon those events. I should be able to find their code and be able to change it so you can change which event makes it crumble. Of course that would mean you only have 2 to work with, but it still could be used.

As for bosses, I think only Kraid can re-spawn; some others appear as a result of switches so after beating them, you can't reach them again.

Still, the event system is pretty versitile, but not all events have been discovered.

Yeah, I remember going through the sprite list and seeing enemy's and game sprites. I remember switching MaruMari to the elevator sprite and nothing happend when I pressed down it was still pretty cool. MZM has a really gnarly engine.

Yeah, do you realize that this game supports infinite elevators? Provided they don't switch between areas, you can have as many as you want. You could even make elevators that work within one room only. The thing is that the elevator sprte goes up or down with you if you are standing over a tile with the elevator property, and push the right direction. Elevators are part of the clip data, simple, no?

Hmm, that means I can add a lot more to this hack I have planned than I thought... I may just be able to make a believable "city" area.

Let's say I want to incorporate a Maridia-like area into Zero Mission. Will future abilities allow for ExGFX or something, so I can import Maridia tiles and backgrounds?
