Hey gang,

For those who created ExGFX from other games, how exactly did you rip the graphics? Do you use screenshots and basically get the graphics from them or is it done another way? The reason why I ask this is that I want some graphics from Spanky's Quest and DO-RE-MI Fantasy: Milon's Ques for my SMW hack. I think those games (especially Milon's Quest) has great graphics. (that's my opinion.)

Yep. they are just screen shots. The best way to do it is use an emulator like ZSNES, and mess around with the "1-5" keys on your key board. What they will do is turn on and off certain layers on they game. Make it so only the bg layer is on, then press "F1" and select "Take Screenshot". And there you go.

If it's a SNES game, I use a ZSNES savestate and rip the GFX and palettes from there. If it's a GBA game, I use VBA's palette viewer and tile viewer.

If you plan on ripping the forest/trees BG from Do Re Mi, I wish you good luck, I was too stuborn to allow it to take up more than one gfx file, cause I didn't want to remove part of FG2, but as far as I can tell it's the only way...

You can easily rip GFX from a SNES savestate using a program called BGMapper, it's very easy to use if you know how to run the commands.

Here's a link.

I posted a thread about the same thing. If you're looking for a nice forest background, get a load of this cap from Bust-A-Move '95!

Now, to insert the new backgrounds would I need to use YY-CHR or the 16x16 Tile Editor from LM? This goes for the screenshots and some of the bgs I got from smw central.

@Davros: That program doesn't really work well. I try to open it and everytime I do, it closes up (ends).

Really, I never knew that. That could be perfect for SMB3 for all-stars Sprites.
