Lately, I've seen some Gradius sites showing some stuff and appearances.

For example, compare this picture with the Yu-gi-oh card.

From Gradius 3, this appears to be one of the bosses in boss rush.

This is the same Crystal Core boss you fight in Gradius II and III.

Thought this was kind of cool myself. If you want to check out the other cards, follow this link.

...you have got to be kidding me.

Yu-Gi-Oh didn't make a game appearance. Gradius made a Yu-Gi-Oh appearance. But yeah, a lot of stuff from Gradius is made into Yu-Gi-Oh card form.

Speaking of Gradius references, I think the king of all of them goes to Zone of Enders: The 2nd Runner which has a LEV called the Vic Viper and transforms into something that looks like the ship from Gradius...and has some of the same attacks. This is especially noteworthy because in the ZoE games, LEVs generally suck compared to Orbital Frames, but the VV is awesome.

Also, some people seem to think the Saviour Gundam transformed looks like the VV, but I don't see that quite as much.

Ah, well, not worth it to post the rest of them

But yes.

Except for the older YuGiOh games that really only have the basic cards and not all that fancy stuff you people are using now.

Well yeah. You can't do things before they existed. It's 'cause that wouldn't make sense.

...I'm not a big Yu-Gi-Oh fan, but putting a Gradius card in AND having the Option included as an effect is BRILLIANT.

Is that the only Konami cameo so far?

No, there are other things, Gradius is just the biggest.

There's also Victory Viper Double X Zero Three, coming out in the next set (Enemy of Justice).

They had Tactical Espionage Expert, which was similar but not exactly a reference to Solid Snake... All the -itsu monsters were based on the Parodius series... Yeah. There's a bunch.

And the thing about Gradius with the option as an effect would be better represented by Victory Viper XX03, from the next set, which can either increase its own attack, create an option, or destroy a magic/trap card on the field when it destroys an opponent's monster.

(One of the less known ones: Ryu Kokki is the final boss from an NES game. If I'm not mistaken, Getsu Fuhma is from the same game.)

EDIT: This is why you don't sit on a post for a while before posting it.

...Would it be too much to hope for a Koitsu card?

And they have room to print "Victory Viper Double X Zero Three" on a card instead of "Vic Viper XX03"?

Koitsu does indeed exist.

And Victory Viper Double X Zero Three's length is topped by many things. The one that comes to mind is Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning.

Maybe this is all because Konami PRINTS the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh Cards. Of course they're going to have references.

And Alastor, my fiend deck will rape you
