I'm involved with the site a lot. I just understand the management's point of view, whereas the whiners in our audience are apparently only concerned with their own childish view.

And FreeDOS, it hasn't stripped the soul from the site, to that's just meaningless.

And it's futile to complain about THAT now, considering the merger was well over a year ago.

Alastor, the thing is, you're evil.

I mean, seriously, if Satan had to choose someone in the world to become, it would be you, because you are no mere mortal. You can look at gamefaqs and not go blind, it is simply amazing.

Yes, the site looks more "professional" but I'm not convinced that's really for the best. The message boards worked just fine and some of their charm was the rather simple style they had. No better functionality now, but aesthetically it's just too...I don't really even know what to call it. But it's just ugly.

It's different, I'll give you. And some of the kinks need to be worked out of it. But once you get past the fact that it is, in fact, not what you're used to, it's quite not ugly.

!

That's exactly the point I was trying to explain all along. Thank you for that. Just because something is professional, doesn't mean it's the best for a situation. As a matter of fact, a huge part of advertising (and more) is knowing your target audience. A professional looking site wouldn't have such a good effect when it comes to advertising, except when it comes to much older, more formal audiences. Which there are few of on the internet. By keeping the site design simple, not only would it be more attracting to more people, but it would also make the current and long-time users happy.

It's not ugly at all. It's just different. I like it, but the reaction's mixed... *shrugs* Better to have a mixed reaction than a horrid one.

"Some big time contributors were even seemingly bribed free premium service so that they would stay."

...On one hand, that's just sad. (And premium service would only apply at the moment to GameSpot, I think. Wouldn't mind no ad-nagging screens though.)

...On the other hand, I'd take that offer.

The premium service is just the site without ads and one new board, though... There are a few other features, sure, but they're even less significant... And it's not like they took anything away from most users in order to get stuff for premium users. The arguments against premium are just ridiculous. So what if they want to give something back to the people who want to spend money on something that has given them so much for free? That's just... Ridiculous.

Well, right away if you know your way around lololol you can kill the ads without any problems. So that kills one part of the special features list.

Premium might be OK as a FLAT fee but of course it would be a monthly/yearly one, which is ridiculous for those features.

Again, it's best not to view it as a premium service and to instead think of it as a little bonus you get for putting money into something that has all right to be a pay service anyway, for the ridiculous amount of things it gives.

I don't mind the new look at all. It's different, but not bad or anything. Just need to get used to it.

I looked at the home page and cried. There is more gamestop news than anything related to gamefaqs...

Man, fuck that shit. I have the discipline to leave and look for new sources.

Meh, at least they let people to have the old layout too.

But I want the really old layout. :/ Meh, then I kind of stopped posting Gamefaqs when I got steadily activer at Acmlm board. xD I started posting in mid 2002, activity came to a halt 2003 (where I started to spree on Acmlm board instead) and I only been idling most of the time there.

Meh, I really miss that really old layout.

The new layout actually has a font tall enough to read. Just like the layout before this layout. In spite of the fact that it doesn't look that great, the tall font to me is love.

I think a LOT of us who used to post at GameFAQs left that place behind when we found Acmlm's. Both regular users AND GameFAQs moderators alike...

GameFAQs is underrated. Naturally, more idiots are going to be found on the more mainstream sites since they never go anywhere else. But, there's plenty of perfectly intelligent people there, and some boards are pretty much idiot-free =/

Well, I did after all come here after a recommendation by someone on GameFAQs, though I don't recall who that was.

As for idiot-free boards, you're definitely not likely to find those among contest boards or boards for recently-released games.

No, but then discussion about new games frequently gets stupid here, too, as that's where some of our more ridiculous members are attracted to... So that's not much of an argument.

The more esoteric game boards and old social boards are general safe ground, however.

I learned a new word from your post Alastor

And overall, I stopped going to GameFAQs much after I made that suicide topic. I never suicided, but I did delete my cookies, so I logged out. I still know the pass, but eh...

I only go there now to read walkthroughs. It is a nice service.
