uh, yeah.

Grand Theft Auto III conclusively makes your condom go whizzing off like an acorn on the end of a geyser

"It's a fact! Play too many violent videogames and colonel sausage will be shooting sticky white ammunition without the protection of his magic tin hat all over town. That's according to a study published in US journal The Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, which concluded that gaming nasties foster "permissive attitudes toward violence, alcohol use, marijuana use, and sexual activity without condom use".

Which sounds like a pretty run-on-the-mill Friday night to us. However, the study, conducted by researchers in San Francisco and Pittsburgh, and entitled "Effects of Media Violence on Health-Related Outcomes Among Young Men", used 100 males aged between 18 and 21, randomly assigning them to play either Grand Theft Auto III or The Simpsons: Hit and Run (which is, frankly, just mean).

It seems that those participants forced to bathe in the unholy perversions of GTA III "exhibited greater increases in diastolic blood pressure from a baseline rest period to game play, greater negative affect, more permissive attitudes toward using alcohol and marijuana, and more uncooperative behavior in comparison with men randomly assigned to play The Simpsons". Although the scientific methodology is unclear, we'd like to imagine it involved surreptitiously sidling up to participants mid-game and whispering "I could really do with a spliff and a beer right now - how about you?".

Anyway, the report reached the conclusion that "although youth growing up in violent homes and communities may become more physiologically aroused by media violence exposure, all youth appear to be at risk for potentially negative outcomes."

Interestingly, the wholly conclusive findings of this report have made us so angry at game developers, we're off to go punch someone in the face. Next up: "Effects of Academic Studies concerning Media Violence on Health-Related Outcomes Among Young Men"."

Explainable, my girlfriend gets off by watching me play SMB3 sometimes, because I'm that good at it.

It's because people played the Simpsons, they wanted to get the fuck out of there so they were agreeing with everything.

In all fairness, The Simpsons: Hit & Run was a decent game, and certainly one of the best, if not THE best, to come out of the franchise. Not as good as the games for which it is largely a clone, true, but decent in its own right.

Sometimes I think people pick on the GTA series just to rail against deadwood points and rack up chump change. It's the same old bullshit, we get it, yet they aren't doing shit about it. Why?

What's done is done, and it's not like they can get everyone to just forget about what they played. I kindof agree that games like that shouldn't be exposed to minors but, oh well.

That sounds like one fun ass game.

I guess I am the only person who, at first glance of thread title, assumed that there was going to be a video of videogame characters having sex with women.

What?

Edit: Grammar mistake

Sounds kinky. Now, if only Vanilla Secret 2 was in SMB3. The ending section of that level just before the goal tape/goal card would be INTENSE. But I suppose he'll just to master the 1-2 infinite lives "trick", or maybe go on a Rocky Wrench killing rampage in the Airship levels.

Anyone can play absurdly safely and get max lives. That's not cool to watch, though. Cool to watch is people doing seemingly impossible feats.

Doing seemingly impossible feats like...this?

Yes, the video is awesome. Sadly, it's not quite legit. The people used an emulator with a "rewind" function of sorts. Still quite awesome.

Yeah, it was beaten here. Funny too, because it's actually quite easy to top the "old TAS video" time if you know what you're doing.

However, the lack of an NES no whistle warps 100% run on SDA saddens me. There's an All-Stars Mario 3 100% one, but...it just doesn't have the same feel to it as an NES run.

Obviously, video games must do this.

Wow, good thing I'm on ortho evra, or I'd obviously be popping out babies faster than that king and queen of troy that had 99 kids or so.

I don't think video games is what makes me not like condoms, it just could be because, you know, personal preference, but I guess free will does not rule when one plays video games. :/

See, Amanda, you need to read between the lines in this article. The real thing that happens in this case is that videogames get out of their cases in the middle of the night and poke holes in any condoms in the residence. You'd better watch out, though, or they'll replace your pills with placebos! This new generation of games is getting smarter, after all...and more evil.

I love how everyone worries about the kids being corrupted... it's so absolutely absurdly ridiculous. What happened to crazy? If a kid plays a game where he shoots someone.. and then goes out and shoots someone.. he's CRAZY. It's not like games have a mind controlling effect... or affect the real world at all. And if you can't make that distinction.. there is something seriously seriously wrong. It's all about control.. this is another one of those issue's that politicians use to get their vote count up. I don't think intelligent people can actually believe that a videogame could affect a persons behavior, unless there was something wrong with the person.... honestly... I can't bring myself to believe that.
