| So the question to talk about at this point that came up after reading through a few threads, and which reminded me of an old discussion, is thus:
Why is bestiality wrong? Similarly, in different circumstances, would it not be wrong? Now, I know some people might not believe that bestiality is wrong, but let's save that for another thread if need be. The point of this one is different. So let's start with the notion that humans having sex with animals is wrong. From there, we must ask why that is. I would contend that this is due to the nature of sentience. Humans are in fact the only sentient animals we know of, and this much is a fact. I think that the reason that human/animal sex is wrong is not that there is a species difference, but because of the nature of the affair. As such, and why this is a hypothetical discussion, what if that were not the case? What if other species possessed sentience and human levels of intelligence? This might come into play in a fantasy world, as it did when I first thought of this point (humorously enough, on the GameFAQs Zelda 64 board in a thread someone made proclaiming Ruto was "so hot"), or if humans should some day make contact with an alien species. In that case, I ask, would interspecies sex really be wrong? I think the problem is bestiality per se, and in that case it would not be with beasts at all. I personally would not likely choose to partake, not really being into the fur-scene, but as a theoretical point I find it interesting to consider. Thoughts? |

| My gut reaction is, like everyone, "Because it's gross!" But, well, no, that's not actually a very good answer, since the things we consider gross are just the things we don't have exposure to. And we don't have exposure to beastiality because it's wrong in the first place. So, looking for reasonable answers:
I always assumed it is wrong because it is rape. I mean, how're you supposed to tell if an animal wants to have sex with you? They're not going to bring you flowers and take you out on an expensive date, you know. Also, from a purely practical standpoint, having sex with animals increases the likelyhood of letting all sorts of diseases jump the species gap. Humans get plenty of STDs as it is, do we really want to add equine herpes to the list? |

| I've been of the impression that it's wrong because it's cruel. They can't consent to it, so I guess it's "rape" of a sort, I'm sure it's probably hurting a lot of animals too.

| Are you sure they can't consent? They have claws and teeth, you know. If they were going to say "No", it would be in a way that it would be rather, well... noticeable, I'd think. Of course, it's still possible to overpower them, but... I'd think in some cases, it would be consensual.
As for why it's considered wrong... I'd go with the whole gut-reaction "Ewww!" thing. People tend to be quick to go against anything they deem unnatural. |

| Well, 17 year old humans are just about as able as 18 year olds, on average, but we say they can't consent, even if they don't fight back, so, well, that could be said for animals as well.
But jeez, it seems no one caught the actual point of the thread. I thought this would be an interesting discussion. Guess not. |

If you're talking about interspecies, it was obvious. 
Of course, I'm not sure if pregnancy or even real sex will be possible with an alien race, considering they will be different and could infact be more like flowers than animals. They might be like fish or something too... |

| For humans there are legal precidents that are arbitrarily set to protect people. With regards to sexual conduct, I'd rather be safe than sorry with regards to consent laws for people. For animals they don't have the same world view and many animals do NOT have sex for pleasure like we do. They're not programmed for it, nor have they evolved/will evolve to enjoy it. Ultimately it is just cruel to the animal and raises all sorts of ethical questions.
As for this discussion I'd like to mention that the thread title is sort of misleading, I came in here expecting a talk on the furry sexual trend, not bestiality. All said and done though, its not really that this happens that interests me. I've seen statistics and I'm quite well read on various sexual topics. What does interest me is why people are driven to do this. What could posess a person to do this? It all leads down to the fact that it IS a form of sexual deviancy, a very extreme one and one that is quite bizzare. (edited by Plus Sign Abomination on 04-11-06 07:59 AM) |

If it's a normal animal, like a dog or squirrel... just, leave the poor thing alone! You're hurting it! 
If it's a humanoid furry creature that can cope with your emotions, then I guess it's okay to indulge if you're really into that kindof thing. Personally, I'm not the type to fantasize women with facial hair. |

| I've met some dogs that would certainly consent to sex with humans, even attempt to initiate it (humping legs, etc.). If the animal was obviously non-consenting then it would be obvious why its wrong, but its more complicated in cases where the animal is clearly willing and/or enjoying it. In those cases its just unnatural and disgusting, but maybe not quite as wrong as otherwise. Saying that an animal is incapable of consent is silly (should we be prosecuting all animals that have sex with each other for rape because they cant consent?). I think we've gone too far in this country with limiting human beings rights to consent as well. I completely disagree with age of consent laws where the age is well past puberty, making it a high-level felony for following natural sexual instincts when all parties are consenting is wrong to me. Maybe in cases where its unnatural (pre-pubescent children, animals which are being harmed), then it should be a felony, but in cases where its a teen-ager who is otherwise consenting, or a willing animal, maybe it should just be distasteful.
I think this thread is mainly about wanting to get some hot alien girl ass though, to which i say "right on"  Maybe they'll be like vulcans and we can have kids with them |
