| I just came home last night, and me and this girl I've been talking too, hung out a lot yesterday out of state. She's a half-black half-white girl, and she's cute and sweet, and we decided to go out on a date in a couple of weeks, this morning, and we're both looking forward to it.
When I told my Dad, Mom, and brother. They seemed cool with it, but my Mom really started hating that she had black in her, and started yelling at me for considering dating her, but what was really stupid was the fact that my Mom started mentioning if we were to get married ever! What the hack is she talking about!? It's a date, not a proposal! She just went off the deep end telling me I'm selfish, and that my children would have a funny look because they would have black in them! My family is a little more on the country side as far as types go, and she's going to wreak hell on my butt for a long time about this, but don't you think SHE's the one that is selfish? Not me! She's just being flat-out racist! I told her I'm the first one in this family without a hick background, I'm the only one without the southern accent. I so diverse guys, and she wants to slam me on this! This girl I like by the way, wants to be a docter, and she is super nice, and super cool. My mom has NO right on ripping on my hide about this!! | I've got hick blood, I was born in Indiana. So I'm not quite southern, but still have got the hick blood, yet I'm not; I told them I've started a new generation for our family; a ganeration of diversity. I like this girl quite a bit, she's so normal. My mom acts like I'll bring a reproach on the family; that's what she said. I'm so fed up with her right now.
My mom knows I have a big heart for grandma, and my mom knows this, and she will use that against me. I've been told it's a better idea that you shouldn't be with someone unless your parents like them, well here's the thing, she will never be respectable to anyone I date; she wasn't before, what makes me things she will with anyone else!? I'm appalled by your mother's racism. She obviously thinks of blackness as some sort of taint.  I also don't understand what's supposed to be "selfish" about a date between two people with some interest in each other. But it is good to hear that you recognize the racism for what it is and that you see your friend as a person, not as a color.
Just to make sure I understand the situation correctly...your dad and brother are OK with your friend and your mom doesn't approve anyone you date? That rule of thumb about dating people your parents like can be ignored if your parents dislike the person for bullshit reasons...such as racism. |

| I never understood the whole racist thing myself. I just could care less how someone else looks on the outside, mainly on who they are on the inside. I too come from a background like you do. I live in a family where half are racist and the other half isn't. I know I have made racist remarks before, I have a Japanese friend that I joke with about him being Japanese, but it's not out of hate, just messing around with him. It isn't really right to discriminate, I know even if I joke with my friend like that, it isn't right. If I was in your position, and the people that are in my family or the ones who love me, don't support my desicion on who I'm dating based on race, then I'd have to go against them. People shouldn't judge others on color, and living in a family like mine, I learned that well. | |||

| Look... I'm a man... a hard working man, and I love girls! I love girls so much! Me and my brother go to the mall all the time to look at girls, and I look at all kinds of girls: Hispanics, Whites, Blacks, Oreos, Chicanas, Asians, and others too. I just love females!

| In my family it's my sister and dad that are racist among a few cousins and uncles. I'm closer to my sister and dad and when they say what they think of other people of different color or whatever, I just ask them to explain how they feel like they do or to explain themselves. I still haven't gotten a straight answer from either of them. If you can't persuade them, then just ignore them like Danielle said. All you really got to know is that you know your on the right track. | |||

| Agreed. God will bless man and woman reguardless of race, as long as the chemistry is right, and it's not for lust, then God blesses them in marrage, as long as they stay true to each other. Race is not an issue.
And I've always seen pictures of Jesus; Jesus was not white like they drew him, and I think that gets in the way of some of the hardcore religious country folk; they really don't think about the concept that being Jewish is not being white, and my mother comes from that kind of knowledge. Luckily for me I go to a different church then my Mom and Dad; my pastor is young and cool, and he totally thinks it's awesome that I'm going to date a half-black girl. I would make my mom feel like crap is she honestly ever said that to me. Being racist is a huge character flaw and it'll prevent you from getting to know wonderful people. I'd try to make her realize that.. you're disregarrding like half of the people on earth by being racist. Very, very uncool. |

Racisim isn't dying off quite as quickly as most people would like, but with each succeeding generation, it is dying off little by little. There's not much you can do to persuade or change your mother (you could destroy her feelings with some really choice words, but I don't suggest that if you wish to stay in touch with her... *mwa haha*), so ignoring it is probably all you can do. |

| About fifteen minutes ago, my dad walked in my room and totally let me have it, not because of the girl I like, but for me yelling at my mom like I did about how racist she's acting. He told me he don't like the way I talked to her, and he told me if I ever did it again he would do "something" to me. So basically here's the rundown... If I defend myself to anyone, he's going to probobly beat me down or something. I'm 21 years old, and I have hardly anything going for me... I'm a dropout, I STILL live at home, I moved here to "hickland" Indiana, from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and left all of my friends, so I've been here for a year and a half, and still have no friend, and there is no opening for there to be any for me, EXCEPT...
That this really cool girl is my friend, and maybe we could be something more; thus would create a course to the social circle, and I could meet some actual new friends. And girls find me attractive, but that doesn't mean jack if you don't have the entry to the social circle. So here I am, a good-looking guy, a sucky job, and nothing to show for it! I have a mom that's racist, and a dad who will defend her honor even if he still okay with the race thing. My younger brother even tells me to shut up, because he say it "puts more wood on the fire", but he doesn't understand that when you're an adult you have a right to speak.
