I found a ROM, and I have EliteMap. Is there something that can change the names of Pokemon?

Use a Hex Editor, or Advance Text

Well I'm being unusually nice today, so once you've opened Advance-Text and opened the ROM, click "Search". Type in the name of the pokemon you want to edit, such as BULBASAUR, it should find an offset, displayed in the status bar, it should say something like "Result: Found at Offset 2060663 (Decimal)!". Then click the button, "Write 2 INI" located on the status bar. It should bring up a dialog for adding to the INI, for name of section just do something like "Pokémon Names", and for name of text just do "Bulbasaur" or whatever name you want to edit. Finally click "Add to Ini". You should now see the section "Pokémon Names" on the list, and click on it, you should see the text in the textbox on the right, now you may edit! Then click "Save Text" when you are done editing that name.

If you still dont understand, I really dont have any patience to simplify it any further.

If you're of the age you say you are, you don't even belong here so don't complain. Make backups.

Not his fault you can't follow simple instructions. If you aren't going to be at the very least greatful that someone took time out of their day to help your sorry case, no one's going to want to help you any longer.

That's why there's something called a "back-up." Always keep a back-up of an original rom.

I have backups, it's just that I followed his instructions, and the ROM messed up.

I don't know what to say buddy, it must have been a fluke in Advance-Text, or else you don't know how to follow directions.

I don't know AdvanceText much, but those directions given in the fourth post seem correct enough.

I say get a fresh rom, and use a hex editor that has relative searching. More details when you need 'em.

This thread, by the way, fails it. And so does Xeon.

Kawa, what did Xeon do, honestly...he tried to help someone out and gave them very detailed instructions as to how to do what they want, a very generous action considering the poster's attitude after the fact. You said yourself that the directions seemed correct. So what did Xeon do wrong here?

You're a moderator, you should know better than to act like this and make personal attacks for no reason. I shouldn't even have to tell you .-.;; we have responsibilities to uphold...and you aren't helping things when you act that way. Everyone in this thread needs to just cool it, okie dokie?

Well, maybe the problem is that at the beginning of the ROM, there's a thing that says "PRESENTED BY MUGS". Sadly, I cannot find a working version of Pokemon R/S/E that doesn't have this, but so far, it's to blame.

The MUGS intro? That shouldn't effect the offsets, but, it very well could .-.;;; Uguuu...this is why I hate dumpers who put intros on their releases >.<;; You're out of luck unless you find a clean copy, provided of course it is the intro that's throwing you off. I very much doubt this to be the case, however =|

Maybe it was the wrong version of Advance Text. It didn't even ask me to repoint...

Heh to "remove" the mugs intro, open your rom in a hex editor and write 2e0000 at the start (I assume you are using ruby)

I fail to see how that will make a given editor work better.
