So, yeah... can a sleepover really be considered a sleepover if there is no sleeping involved...

For those of you who dont know, ive been gone to a B-Day party for the past few hours... and yeah, pulled an all-nighter... I have this strange feeling Im going to crash and burn come 10PM...

So... anyways... how far have you pushed the limit before? How necessary is sleep to you. How much do you need to feel refreshed in the morning?

... Im curious

I can still do all-nighters, but I tend not to. I tend to wind up going to bed around 3am, and then just sleeping late.

The older I get the harder it comes to just do an all nighter like it's easy, or nothing, or whatever. The last one was pretty funny -- my housemate and I did one together and then we went shopping in the afternoon. He was driving his 180SX and went "hey, I'm just gonna close my eyes for a bit, can you drive?"

Needless to say, I freaked out. o.o

I usually crash out around 7am or 8am when pulling off an all-nighter. I only do all-nighters in the summer because there is plenty of time to make up that sleep I missed during that all-nighter.

I don't really need sleep.

So I usually just go to sleep when I'm bored.

My body starts hating me if I'm still awake past 2am. However, on special occasions (read: parties) I can push that limit to 3-4am.

It depends.

Like the other night...I had a rough day (week more like it) at work and I went to bed at around 11:30pm. I had to wake up at 7am to leave for work, but it was very hard for me to wake up. I even fell asleep in the car on the way to work and I felt drained both physically and mentally up until 5pm, give or take an hour.

Normally I'm fine on 7.5 hours of sleep, but since my moral and vitally has been down lately, I just want to sleep more.

So it really has to do on how I'm feeling and what's going on in my life ATM. I mean, I've been good on 3 hours of sleep before.

I can do all nighters if I truly want to. Then again, I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to sleep much so I get what I need to then get up. The latest times I stay up are usually around 3 at the latest. When I was younger, I could stay up all night and I used to playing some ROMs on my comp for hours and hours without end. If I choose to stay up late now, past 3 a.m., I usually still wake up before noon the next day.

I still remember when Grand Theft Auto San Andreas first came out. Not like that games special or whatever but first time me and my cousins stayed over at one of their houses, we were all playing 2 player mini games on it then they ended up falling asleep around 2 and 3a.m. I stayed up til 7a.m. and got a half hour of sleep then I was awaken by someone and was fine the rest of the day.

It seems that for me, the more sleep I get, the worse off I am. I can go all day on 3 hours of sleep but by night I'm dead. If there is no sleeping involved, it's probably not a sleepover, just more of a hangout all night.

Well, I can work on 3 hours of sleep, then again, I'm 14.

Well, I do have a slight insomnia disorder that can keep me up for up to two days on rare occasions.. then I just pass out for long amounts of time. x.x

Its kind of funny, I usually sleep walk alot during those times. XD

I've done an all-nighter, but it's not really something I strive for.
I really really really like my sleep. If it were up to me, I'd get 12+ hours every day. But considering I only get 5-6 hours a night, I guess I don't need it as much as the stats say a person does.

I was awake for about 48 hours years ago once, when a train full or fans was on the way to watch a game in our national football league (that torture for a 90-minute game ... ) . With a uncountable number of coffee cups and noise I was able to survive that ... but never again.
As for now, I need about eight hours to sleep, in the weekend I'm sleeping up to ten hours per night since I won't need to get up early the next day.

Nothing beats a night's full of sleep, getting up fully charged the next morning.

Let me ask you this question, KATW. If you're not going to call it a sleep over (and if you don't sleep, it doesn't really make sense to call it that), then what name would you use for it? A while ago now, me and a friend started asking each other if we wanted to stay the night at the other person's house. It doesn't imply that you're going to sleep at all, and it still sounds decent

At times, I don't even understand why we use that though. Up until last week sometime, he was reluctant to come over to our house for the night, as we didn't have an internet connection, and he wouldn't be able to play Xbox Live (he admitted that himself). After that, the other day at work, I'd just finished handing out a customer's order, and turned around to have him ask me a question. He wanted to know if next time he came to our house, whether he'd have to bring his own ethernet cable for his 360

Anyways, sleep. The last time I can remember pulling an all nighter was a couple weeks ago, on Saturday. I was originally scheduled to work from 8 or 9 at night to close, which is at least 4 in the morning. However, I got called in at 5. Apparently they were short on staff, and needed somebody to come in. When I arrived, I was told that I would be there until 10. I figured that wasn't too bad, as 5 hours is shorter than most of the shifts I'm given. After the supper rush was over, however, Shelia (one of the managers there) told me they needed me to close. Earl (the general manager) said that he wouldn't blame me if I said no, seeing as it was indeed a long shift (5 in the afternoon to 5 in the morning), but I agreed, as I figured the money would be worth it, and I didn't have any plans for that night anyways.

Long story short, we finally closed, everyone got a ride home, and I sat down at the computer. I don't know why, but I didn't get tired enough to go to sleep until 2pm. Even then, I only ended up sleeping 'till 7

The longest I've ever gone without sleep (at least that I can remember) was a couple days. The first day had been a friend's birthday, and given that he got several games as gifts, everyone there was busy playing or watching someone else play those all night, as opposed to sleeping. The next day, I had some sort of dentist appointment in the morning, and I couldn't very well have gotten any sleep, as if I did, I'd have slept straight past it. After that, I went home, and wandered around (I felt too drained to do anything else), ate supper (I don't know how I can remember, but it was broccoli soup), and went to bed around 9 at night.

For the most part though, the only reason I stay up late now is either because I have to work, or I'm just used to being up early in the morning because of working so many closes.

There's nothing really stopping me from pulling an all-nighter, but I try not to, unless I have a reason for doing so.

Most people can go without sleep, though it differs from person to person. For me... I can pull off an all-nighter if I wanted too, though I feel dead tired come 7am CST.

The last time I went without sleep was a week ago. I go to classes at 7am, leave at noon, then come back at 4pm and leave at 7:30pm. Needless to say I felt like sleeping but ended up staying awake for the next 15 hours that day...

I think the longest I've gone with NO sleep was about 30 hours. I have, however, had several days in a row where I've had very little sleep (as in, less than 4 hours). It's pretty miserable.

I can run on a low amount of sleep, but I've never actually succeeded at pulling an all-nighter - most late nights end around 4 AM for me. My actual latest was at 6:30.

As for actual sleep periods, I once figured three and a half hours would give me enough juice to last through a day of classes; well, I was definately feeling it by the afternoon

Heh, I think the latest i've ever gone is 2 AM, nowadays it's rarely past midnight, considering I _HAVE_ to get up at about 6 every day, regardless of school/work. I'm a nap hater too, have a hard time sleeping in the middle of the day, so really, if I pulled an allnighter, i'd crash and burn

To quote wikipedia:

"Sleep is the regular state of natural rest observed in all mammals, birds and fish. Sleep is not actually "unconsciousness," but rather, it is a natural state of rest characterized by a reduction in voluntary body movement, decreased awareness of the surroundings, an increased rate of anabolism (the synthesis of cell structures) and a decreased rate of catabolism (the breakdown of cell structures). Therefore, since consciousness is literally the awareness of the surroundings, being asleep is just an altered state of consciousness, as opposed to being unconscious. It is heavily influenced by circadian rhythms and by hormonal and environmental factors. Sleep performs a restorative function for the brain and body as evidenced by the myriad symptoms of metabolic dysfunction that result when animals are deprived of sleep."
