The plug on the end of the pad's cable. I noticed how one controller wasn't being detected, and looked at it. An important pin in it's connector appears to be missing. From above:

Number 2- the upper center isn't there. If pinout charts are correct, that is the data line. No wonder! Does anyone know a way to open these connectors? For reference, the control pad in question is this pictured type.

I'll open one up and look at it for you a little later (the pinouts should be the same on all makes, but I'll be using an official control), but if its the pin is missing, a bit solder should just do the trick...I'll have a look, though.

edit: and just so you know, I've had friends who have that controller too, and, theirs was broken too. I don't know if it is a coincidence or MadCatz just makes faulty circuitry. I always only buy first-party hardware for controllers and other little acessories, just in case.

My friend has two MadCatz controllers, niether of them work now. I think it might be their crappy circuitry.

That pin is completely gone. No trace of existance whatsoever. Any issues with circuitry won't matter much until there's a connection in place, try and find some way to open it's plug end. I'm able to get inside the main unit just fine.

I don't mind MadCatz. Their large GC memory card, XB dance pad, and especially the one early XB controller serve me well. I actually have better luck with outside brands. What steams me up is Nintendo's GC analog stick, now that wears out fast.
