how many people have their friends coming up to them asking for help in a video game. I for one get it a ton, and it sucks. One of my friends thinks there is cheats that can do anything for any game. Unfortunately, he's never heard of an Action Replay. For example: "Sonic Riders has been out for a month, there has to be a site where you can get every character! You didn't find it? Check another site, there's 5 sites that I know of for cheats."
He doesn't realize the game programmers made the cheats, not the cheat sites.
Sorry, now I'm getting off-topic, have you ever given advice for video games to your friends? I've helped people I didn't even know on Super Mario Sunshine before, and they were freaking out when I beat the Sand Bird Red Coin shine...

Once you let your customers know that you're good at something...they'll either call the store or show up, thinking that you can help them out all the time. I mean, I'm fine with it, as long as I'm not busy. But after a while, it gets a bit out of hand.

My advice never works for my friends cause they like to play games nice and slow and get everything, whereas I'll fly through games and take as many risks as possible and somehow make it to the end in more or less one piece. I guess I'm good with timing. My friend hates to pick up RPGs that I'm halfway through cause I'll be a good lot of levels lower than him cause he levels like mad, whereas I do just enough to get me past the boss.

Until I threw together an old computer for my brother, him and his friend were always asking me to look up cheat codes for whatever game. I'm like STFU and try actually playing the game!

I used to have to do it all the time in high school, mainly because I was one of the few kids in my class with an Internet connection.

Ugh... most of it was Game Shark codes too.

At Grafton, all the time. Almost no one there had unsupervised access to a computer, and most of them lived there. I didn't live there, so I could go get the codes for them.

I was about to start charging for it.

Good lord I thought I was the only one around with terrible gamers.

Well not really, I just didn't think there were THAT many.

But yes, my family often calls me in for help.

I've gotten more shines than my sister has in her game slot on SMS...

I should have charged but we're talking high school here. Best I could have probably done would have been a quarter or something along those lines.

Good luck trying to get some game info on the school computers... I think they had a 28.8k connection. As in a NETWORKED connection with everyone sharing the 28.8k.

That doesn't sound that bad. I bet it could get GameFAQs pretty easy. I know my old 14.4 could.

Yeah, that last problem was the other reason I had to get the info for everyone; I at least had 56k dialup at home, while they probably had worse - if any at all - AND most people weren't allowed to access game-related sites.

And hey, a dollar here, a dollar there, it adds up. Especially with five or six people asking you every single week. Even more in the summer (year-round school)...

Heh, I actually did charge to hack peoples' Pokémon games back in the day, as I was the only one with a Gameshark.

Apart from my parents (and that happens rarely), I actually hadn't done this much in years.

I guess most people I grew up with had internet access and knew how to find that info theirself and didn't bother to ask a "expert".

I used to, because I used to be the best at every video game around town. (Yay for small towns.)

As more people played different games though, people only come and ask me for help if it's a game I've talked about before.

My brother is the worst for asking me to give him help with stuff involving games. Generally, whenever he gets a new game, he'll either play it about halfway through, or play until he reaches a part he can't figure out how to beat, and then he'll come straight to me asking me to look for either a walkthrough or action replay codes for whatever game it is

Other than that, the only time I really end up giving advice for whatever game, is when someone either begins a new game on one of mine, or buys a game I've played so many times I know inside out

Aside from that though, most avid video game players I know either don't like people to help them with their games, or they know how to look up whatever information they need theirselves.

The only time I've ever had to help someone (other than my brother) look up something game-related was in high school. There was a small group of people that, during lunchtime, preferred to sit in the library, and use the computers there to play GBA ROMs.

Unfortunately, when you're pretty much the only one in the entire school that knows where to find a GBA emulator, and the ROMs for it, you're not left with much choice. Add that to the fact that the networked drives for all the students were at most 25Mb, and the ROM pretty much everyone wanted to play (Golden Sun 2) was just about 12Mb, zipped, and things got rather frustrating sometimes

That's about all that comes to mind right now though.
