By "our" you must mean the Red Sox... who gave up apparently great prospects for an inconsistent starter and an over-the-hill 3rd baseman. And they wonder what they did wrong this year. For the record, Hanley Ramirez > Alex Gonzalez.

Of course if the Marlins somehow make it into the playoffs they can't complain about needing a new stadium to be competitive.

Meh, A-Gon and Lowell were good in the short term, as in they did everything, and in Lowell's case, more, than what the Sox were looking for.

But as for Beckett...yeah, huge disappointment.

Next year all these prospects that they traded are going to explode, and make the Sox look like idiots. This was their year to do it, but they screwed the pooch.

Or not. Need I bring up Bud Smith? But hey, Myglowl's still under contract for next season, so we could probably trade him and dick around with YOUUUUUK some more by moving him back to 3B, now that he's probably going to have 1B/3B/OF eligibility for the 2007 fantasy season. Beckett... to be fair, he did come from the NL into Where The Big Boys Play, so that's gotta be no less than +1.00 ERA. Disappointment, yes, but there's still three years to prove he ain't Matt Clement v2.0.

As for Gonzalez the Alex, I'm getting the sense he's going elsewhere so we can sign Lugo. Yes, because that's precisely what they need. It's nice having money.

Yeah this has shades of the Jimmy Johnson/Herschel Walker Cowboy/Viking deal written all over it.

Austin Kearns: Oh, crap, I just broke Johnson's leg...

yikes...

Reminds me of the Carlos Beltran/Mike Cameron collision in San Diego last season...

In more positive news, Barry Bonds=New NL Home Run King.

Positive news is debatable...

but anyways, the yankees won their 9th straight division title--they may give the braves streak a run for its money

The White Sox are officially out. All they can do is look at their pitching this year and wonder what the heck happened.
Of course, that means small-market extraordinaire, the Twins, are in even without Liriano. That kid would've been spectacular to see against the Yankees.

Joe Girardi is going to be gone, which is just asinine. The guy led a bunch of kids with no experience (and with the D-Train having an average year) into the wild card race this year. I haven't heard any experts say this guy can't manage, and he's going to have a job soon after they can him. Maybe those failure Cubs will be able to get him.

It's official. Girardi out, Freddie Gonzalez in. I guess we're going to see next year how much of a difference Girardi made.

Oh and things aren't looking to great for the Mets right now. Maybe they should invest in bionic arms or something.

I've watched almost all of the postseason games thus far and I must say that I'm impressed most with the A's. They beat Santana in the dome and came back to win Game 2, and tomorrow they go for the sweep (which I don't expect to happen). Cardinals also look good considering how bad they were at the end of the regular season (they're about to beat the Padres as it looks now, 1 strike away from closing Game 2 out).

Yeah, but you know who isn't still alive (in baseball terms, that is)? Allegedly, Joe Torre. If this is true, Piniella would still be a big downgrade. Seriously, for reals, Yankees, you want to do better, trade A-Rod, hope Aramis Ramirez opts out, and sign him instead. Actually, any scenario that involves A-Rod hitting the bricks, alongside Jaret Wright and Carl Pavano, is good for those in pinstripes.

Which means I hope they do none of those.

I'm torn in this ALCS.

On one hand, there are the Tigers, having a magical season, slaying the "evil empire" Yankees and all of that.

On the other hand, there are the Athletics, who I want to win because it will make baseball's Old Guard and 90% of sports analysts crap themselves.

Hmm.

I really don't have a preference anymore; I just loved watching the Yankees get HUMILIATED by the Tigers and Kenny Rogers specifically.
*Dr_Death16 is a Red Sox fan

Anyway, I think it will be A's / Mets in the World Series. A's pitching and Mets' bats are just too good.
