Howard was picked by quite a few analysts too. Usually these things are hit-and-miss.l He did have Abreu's same pitching coach and supposedly a strategy, though.

It surprised me in that it was an entertaining game. I was shocked when Brad Penny struck out Ichiro, Jeter and Ortiz in the first All in all, pretty entertaining, though I would've liked to see Francisco Liriano play, haven't seen him at all yet this year, but he has electric ability as a pitcher.

Is it just me, or does Francisco Liriano have the most wicked stuff of any pitcher in the game today? 3-hitting the D-Rays is no big deal but still, him and Santana on the same team is dynamic. Too bad I'm a Red Sox fan. Some guy in my fantasy league knew this and tried trading me the inconsistent Beckett for my Liriano. I laughed.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Errr, *ahem*

The analysts are hoping that the schedule will allow Liriano to pitch in both the Yankees and Red Sox series. The Yankees series is September 1-3, and the Red Sox are September 19-21. Since Liriano and Santana are split up in the rotation now, I don't see both of them pitching in both series. Even if one of them does, that's still trouble. But if by some miracle that both do, look out. So long as we don't face Ching Meng Wang again...

Obviously for me, the ones we need to worry about are the two teams in the AL Central. Worry about dem Yanks and Sawks later, gotta beat up on some Tigers and White Sox first. And it just so happens that the next three series...
@ Indians, 3 games
@ White Sox, 3 games
vs Detroit, 3 games

The next 11 games (still two more with Tampa Bay) will determine a lot.

--Edit on 7-26-06--
Finished the sweep of the Devil Rays
Took 2 out of 3 from the Indians
Swept the White Sox
.....then the Yankees beat up on the Rangers to take the wild card lead!
Twins and White Sox are now 1/2 game back.

Well, all I know is that the Cy Young is going to be between Liriano, Santana, Halladay, and maybe Papelbon. Right now, it'd have to be Liriano.

Gee, thanks, ESPN. Really appreciate you firing Harold Reynolds. No idea why, and I didn't see Baseball Tonight on Sunday, so I have no idea if it has something to do with that. But at Deadspin, the speculation is sexual harassment. Oopsie.

Gah.... Wtf? Harold Reynolds was the shit. I liked the Baseball Tonight crew as it was. Kruk was the idiot, Ravich was the wise guy and all the others actually knew what they were talking about. And it worked.

Pittsburgh trades Kip Wells to Texas for a minor league prospect
Pittsburgh trades Craig Wilson to NY Yankees for Shawn Chacon
Cincinnati trades a minor league prospect to Minnesota for Kyle Lohse
Cincinnati trades Justin Germano to Philadelphia for Rheal Cormier
Atlanta trades Jorge Sosa to St. Louis for a minor league prospect

The Red Sox needed a 4th or 5th starter... bad. They had hopes pinned on David Wells' return... well I just watched him pitch a few innings tonight and he sucked. He might be done at this age. Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield and Lester are what they have right now... with Wakefield on the DL. Those are the only 4 I would trust to start. Bullpen would've been nice to upgrade too. Damn those Yankees...

A lot of teams needed pitching, and the Reds were the only team to really get any. Given how many moves they made, I'd say they are gonna be the NL wild card.

I have a feeling the Reds are going to somehow blow the NL Wildcard. I couldn't tell you who will take it. The NL is very meidiocre this year. We could see a 85-87 win team take it. I won't care too much, as long as Atlanta doesn't make it. 10+ years of winning the division and only one title to show for it. Move over and give someone else a turn.

Well, there wasn't time to get it done before the deadline. Hell, I think Varitek was DL'ed after the deadline too.

Oh, and Andruw Jones didn't clear waivers. So if he's going to get traded, it's to the Mystery Team. He gets 10-5 rights later this month, too, so he has to sign off on anything after that.

The pitcher only known as the phenom, Fransico Liriano is to be put on the 15-day disabled list Thursday. There is some lingering soreness in his pitching elbow, and some tests are to be conducted to find the cause.

That's probably not going to be enough to deal with the Dodgers and Padres. Being a Marlin's fan I know what Livan can do for a playoff race though.
