Great, now Diaxos wanted to continue with a friendly battle. It was really hard to stay mad at someone so... innocent. Jack supposed that he might have been a little harsh at first (maybe), and decided that he wouldn't really try to kill Diaxos. A spar, however, would be a good way to blow off some steam.

Jack: "Meh, the size of a person's weapon doesn't really affect much if he can't swing it fast enough. As for me, I could do much worse... if you think you could handle it, that is."

Jack held out his palm, and the nearby shadows were sucked into a sphere as if pulled by a vacuum. The dark ball grew rapidly by the second. Yet, as Jack charged this ominous attack, he lost that murderous look in his eye and returned Diaxos' friendly stare. That poor devil...

"Yeah! I LIKE that attitude, Jack! Have at you, then!"

For a brief moment, Diaxos lowers his weapon and sighs, before readying it again and preparing to attack. He doesn't seem tired, but rather the adrenaline has left him, and that feeling has a tendancy to emotionally drain a guy, especially after what just happened when he was slashed...

Then he attacks! With a slight dash followed by a leap, his attack consists of a diagonal cleave from above, aiming for Jack's chest as Jack charges the shadow ball. The attack would do average Physical damage-- it's a perfectly ordinary katana attack, really. Diaxos WOULD burn some Green DChakra to attack, but he knows it's better to save them for later, given the circumstances of this battle.

Should this hit, Diaxos leaps sideways and backwards to put him at the same distance from his foe as before, then holds the blade again in a defensive position. Should he miss, he would do the same, but only after a slight pause after almost losing his balance, possibly putting him at the mercy of a close-range attack.

Jack continued charging the shadow ball with the hope of getting it to a high - powered level, but Diaxos came in a little faster than he had anticipated, and even though he hurried to finish the spell, Diaxos landed his slash just before Jack finished.

Out of the shock, Jack let go of the shadow ball at the wrong time, and it zoomed off course and away from Diaxos - an apparent misfire. However, a bit of a ways in the distance, the ball split into eight wispy shapes (later than it should have, Jack intended to fire the attack like that earlier), and these new wisps curved back around to home into Diaxos. They weren’t entirely accurate in their homing, making them somewhat avoidable, and each individual attack would deal minor damage if it hit (but of course, in total, they’d add up to a considerable hurt.)

As the shadow ball made its comeback, Jack rolled backward from the blow he took and landed on his feet. He could have pressed on with another attack to make things more difficult for Diaxos, but waited instead to see how he’d deal with the wisps.

Diaxos glances at the un-burst Shadow Ball real quick, then refocuses his attention and prepares for another attack. But, sensing a mana abnormality, he makes it a double-take, and notices 8 homing projectiles following him.

"Here we go..."

Diaxos prepares to defend, and as the wisps get close, immediately he slashes two of them down and leaps backwards. They follow, and he manages to slash another two down before the remaining attacks finally hit their mark, delivering half the intended damage. Diaxos shakes his head.

"Whoa, that feels weird. Least I got some more energy!"

And by that, he refers to the process his weapon is undergoing; it's runes glow green again, as a green wisp-light flies out of the blade for each shadow wisp he dispatched, equalling four. These join the other orbiting three, bringing his total to 7.

"Alright, I have enough. Signature Shift Beta!"

A gale blows from behind him as he uses his ability, ruffling his clothes in a dramatic manner. At the same time, the runes flash green and white, sucking in five of the green lights like a vaccum. The whole sword then flares brilliantly with rainbow lights before the runes become blue, spitting out three blue wisps instead, which join the remaining two green ones.

Diaxos is satisfied with his new, diverse setup, and thinks of how he'll attack with them next.

As the wind dramatically blew, Jack motioned to shield himself, but stopped when he realized that it was no offensive tactic. Returning to his battle stance, he observed Diaxos' katana become even shinier before it spat out three more of those strange wisps. "Nice sword... but why doesn't he use it?" he thought. "Well. I'm feeling too lonely in this fight. I'll make him use it, unless he wants some horrific pain."

Smiling wickedly, Jack decided he would gladly see either outcome as he suddenly dashed forward with the fluidity of a ghost. As he reached a distance of about five feet from Diaxos, time seemed to slow to a crawl as he pulled into a slide and made two diagonal slashes like an X at the boy's chest, his dagger trailing brilliant red flames. The flames stood still in the air in their X mark as Jack completed the design by spinning in the air and forcefully adding a horizontal slash to the top of the shape. In perhaps less than a second, he was done, and the flames rushed forward at Diaxos with the strength of the hottest demon fire. Undeniably an evil technique, Jack did not often use this because of the immense pain it created, and because of the evil the attack seemed to radiate... but he was getting a tad impatient and wanted to speed things along.

Hell, maybe he even
would attract some Psi Warriors. He was feeling too depressed to really care what they did to him anyway...

"Hey, wha?"

The time sliding effect catches him a little off guard, and he doesn't manage a full dodge. As he tries to sidestep, half of the firey cross nails him right in the chest. Panic strikes him for a split-second at the feeling it provides, and though physical pain doesn't last as long for Diaxos as it does for humans, it's still a little more than he can usually bear.

"Augh, it burns, it burns! ...Hahhh, good tactic... Alright! Dynamo 2!"

Once again the sword's runes glow as it absorbs the last two green wisps. Diaxos then thrusts the katana forward. It suddenly crackles with electricity as five large spheres of thunder form around it. Then they are fired in a volley, one at a time but in the manner of a cannon, right into Jack, each one carrying average Electric damage. This attack can potentially be very powerful if they all hit, but the spheres are fired at a medium-fast speed and just move in a straight line, and although Diaxos aims at Jack the whole time, dodging shouldn't be too hard if Jack is careful.

"This guy certainly likes to cause immense pain when he attacks!" Diaxos thinks. "I've never seen a battle strategy like that before. It's twisted and genius, but that's kinda what makes this guy cool..."

'Finally...'

With a twirl of his coat, Jack successfully spun out of the way of the first electric orb, but the second hit him square in the chest. Stunned from the shock, he was immediately hit by the third, fourth... and sinking into the ground as a shadow in a desperate attempt to evade the volley, Jack swerved out of the way of the fifth one but was still nicked in the shoulder. Sparks flew, and he was blasted back into physical shape.

Jack stumbled up from the ground and rather unsuccessfully tried to smooth his hair real quick, which was standing on its end in every direction. The numerous bits of silver that he wore crackled with the last tinge of electricity. For a moment, Jack reckoned that his dead heart even starting beating again.

Jack: "Alright, so the insect's got a sting," he coughed. "I'll still hurt me more than you do."

Jack pulled up his sleeve with a slightly quivering hand, and held his dagger to his arm. Then, in a quick, practiced motion, he drew it against his skin, causing inky black blood to seep out and dribble to the ground. The land might have made the slightest rumble when this happened...

Jack looked up from his work with just a small expression of pain and readjusted his sleeve.

Jack: "So, these magical Psi Warriors. If an undead were to meet his demise to one of them, what would happen? You think his soul would just return to the Netherworld, or would he maybe be completely erased?"

Although he was really just waiting for his spell to kick in, he was genuinely interested. He even secretly hoped that Psi Warriors could erase an undead soul... and was saddened that he considered that.

Diaxos curiously observes Jack's next action. "Hmm... What's this he's doing? I better be on guard..."

Then the question.
"Huh? Oh... From what I've gathered, it is their teachings that souls are impossible to destroy. Generally a soul is supposed to be aware of a LOT more than the physical mind, so when the body dies and the soul gets it's own mind back... I dunno, it seems pretty complicated! But when I meet one, I'll be sure to ask 'em..."

He holds his weapon up again. "Something's telling me to withhold my attack for a while. With three blue Dimensional Chakra here, I'd say you're lucky," Diaxos adds, waving to the blue wisps.

Souls were impossible to destroy? Jack was let down by the answer. So much for escaping damnation when he died again...

Jack: "Good thing you saved those Chakras. I'm still not sure what they do, but you might need 'em now."

In response to Jack's blood sacrifice, incredible thick, black briars suddenly shot up from the ground and grew in a dense ring around him. As this happened, he pulled his hands apart and a familiar green orb started to grow from between them. He was summoning a portal again!

Jack: "I'm sorry, but I just have to do this. I'm at the end of my rope and I'm rather desperate. Maybe you can stop this again, but I'd suggest you just run. Maybe it wouldn't affect you if you got far enough..."

The portal was growing rapidly, and would be complete in perhaps half a minute. Getting close enough to dispel it this time would be harder with those near impenetrable brambles in the way...

"Aw, come on! Wha'dabout the friendly battle!? Haah, oh well... Guess they WILL come in handy."

Diaxos crouches, as two of the Blue DChakra are absorbed by Chaosmusket, and... "Sonic Dash!"

He breaks the sound barrier from a standstill, shooting forward, up at an angle! Out of the range of the brambles, he stops for a split-second in midair and, with a flash of blue light and a burst of raw mana, he changes direction, streaking like a comet towards the growing portal, and when he reaches it, his sword cuts it once with unbelievable speed, at the same time bringing Diaxos to a complete stop where he attacked. The attack should dispel the portal once again, and put Diaxos very close to Jack after his attack. Diaxos gets up and lowers his weapon, staring sincerely at Jack.

"NOT while I'm around. It just wouldn't be right. If you're desperate to cause chaos, you either need to find a way to do it... or just talk it out with someone. Hey, I'll always be there for you to do that, ya know... C'mon, is something troubling you? ...You can tell me, Jack."

Diaxos has forgotten all about the Psi Warriors for now. All he wants to do right now is help this troubled person he met in the graveyard one day.

Stopping the portal earned him one more green DChakra, which now orbits his blade.

Jack cringed at Diaxos' question, and slowly turned a twitching eye on him.

Jack: "Troubling me? Oh, so much is troubling me."

The briars surrounding the two retracted into the ground. Jack made a step backward, and in a puff of smoke a black hooded robe appeared over him, and a wispy scythe materialized in his hand. The bottom of the robe created a constant flow of the thick smoke that floated upward, giving an eerie look to the outfit.

Jack: "I am Death. Rather, I used to be. When my mortal life ended I was forced without any say of my own into the position of a Grim Reaper, just one of many owned by the Council of the Dead. The Council is responsible for managing all of the souls of the dead... a very just group, supposedly, but I never agreed with their decisions - particularly this one.

The area seemed to darken gradually as Jack told his tale. The smoke created by his robe became thicker and more volatile with Jack's rising anger.

"I served for a time, but became... frustrated... when the soul of someone very dear to me disappeared without a trace at all, and I'm afraid that she may be in Suffering if she isn't wandering the earth as a ghost... either is a terrible, terrible fate. Stricken with these worries, I became reckless in my employment, and I made a few big mistakes. The Council saw that I was unfit in life or death, and sought to condemn me, but I got wind of their motives and escaped to this living realm before they could catch me!"

Jack, with robes bursting with intense fire, appeared to be the only visible image over the now completely pitch black graveyard.

"So here I am, a rogue Reaper, escaped from the clutches of Hell and hopelessly mad.

Still like me now?!" he roared, enveloped in the flames.

Letting out a sigh, he let his head fall and he sagged tiredly. The robe, scythe and flames faded away, returning the graveyard to its normal pale light.

"I ...I'm sorry. This has nothing to do with you at all. These are my problems, not yours. You shouldn't be here with me, I'm a hazard; and what's more, in the eyes of eternal judgment I'm evil, a fiend worthy of damnation. *sigh* I'd let the Council take me, but I just need to know if she's alright..."

Jack glanced upward once more.

"I don't want to be a trouble to you, Diaxos. You seem like a good person. That's why you should leave, now..."

And he leaned against a tombstone with arms crossed, lost in his thoughts.

Diaxos is speechless, but not even slightly unnerved at Jack's outburst. He knew Jack was an undead the whole time, but during their talk before the battle he saw something in his foe that nearly everyone else would miss... as well as right now.

"I'm... sorry... for making you go there, Jack."

There's silence for an unknown amount of time, then Diaxos turns to leave the graveyard. As he turns, though, something in the night sky catches his eye. It looks like a falling star... but as Diaxos studies it closely he finds that is it actually a trail of white, etheral energy.

Diaxos gasps. "Haah, it's-- It's a PSI WARRIOR! I finally got my--" He gasps again. During their battle, his intentions had unnoticably changed.

He runs back to Jack.
"Jack, you gotta get outta here, like, NOW! If that Psi Warrior gets here with you present, you'll be obliterated! I don't want that! Trust me on this! Go, go as far as possible!"

Sorry for the delayed reply, we had lots of testing at school and I was rather busy... oh wait, you're familiar with the WASL's, aren't you?
---
Jack was sitting at the base of a tombstone when Diaxos found him again, buried in its shadow and pensively carving his dagger into the clay soil. Diaxos' warning hardly drew a reaction out of him; Jack just wearily looked up into the sky and regarded the white light uninterestedly.

Jack: "Let the Psi Warrior come. Let it obliterate me.
I don't care."

And he withdrew further into the shadow of the headstone, tired green eyes dimly shining out of the darkness. But some angry thought seemed to cross him as he lay there, and he sat right up again.

Jack: "Here that, Psi Warrior? Come on and purge me! I'm calling you right now! Fuck."

He held his hand into the air, and a burning red rune appeared on his skin. The character pulsed evil throughout the cemetery, and would surely not go unnoticed by the flying warrior...

OOC: ...Yes. I DESPISE Wasl. The schedule for two weeks, along with the fabric of space-time itself, gets warped. Dammit, don't make me rant, I'll enjoy it too much.

Before it can be processed, the Psi Warrior is grounded in front of Diaxos, who is in turn in front of Jack. Diaxos turns around to see the Psi Warrior, and gasps, knowing what may happen.

"Uhm, well, hello there, I'm Diaxos... and, uh... There's nothing much going on right here, so--"

"Child? Your friend Jack is emitting a massive aura of Evil energy, on purpose, and he even said 'Come purge me'. You are lying to me."

"!! ...B-bu-but... No, don't hurt him! I know you guys think all Undeads are Evil, but I know first-person that he's a very good guy who's just had a lot of pain and suffering to bear and STILL DOES, but seriously he has a heart of gold and he's very compassionate and he has a lot of Good traits but they're just hard to see!" Diaxos said all that in one breath, and he's in tears. "Don't kill Jack... Don't kill my friend..."

"Diaxos?"

He looks up. How does he know both their names?

"...I... I sensed everything that happened the moment you walked into the graveyard. It was as if I was seeing the world from another man's eyes. Was that you I was viewing the scene from?"

"Ah! Uh... That's... startling... I don't know, but... I..."

"Do not cry, Diaxos. I saw the whole battle and everything. Listen... Not all Psi Warriors believe the same thing. Several of us, we see an Undead and slay it on the spot without getting any details. The wiser of us try communication first... because you're right, not all Undeads are automatically Evil. Some are made that way involuntarily, like a man who's been bitten by a Vampire, and some are soulless, summoned creatures, which would make the summoner the one responsible."

"Are you going to hurt Jack?"

"Never. I may destroy him, but it would be painless. And I might not even have leave to do even that. It will be the Assets that decide. But I thank you, first of all... Your bravery was astounding, and you were wonderful at allowing Jack to realize some of his Good traits, even if only for a while."

He squeezes Diaxos in comfort, then Diaxos steps aside as the Psi Warrior approaches the troubled rouge reaper.

"Salutations, Jack. ...I'm sorry you have gone through the things you've endured... Truly I am. Nobody should have to endure these kinds of trials... But on the other hand, you have shown the Assets your good traits by doing so, and they have deemed you an Exception-- a being who's existance defies the first rule of Spiritual Physics. I am honored to meet such a person, no matter if they're living, Undead, Angel, Demon, powerful, or not so much-- I will always be honored.

"Listen to me very carefully, Jack. You have two options right now, and this will be a very difficult descision but you must decide NOW." Suddenly, the Psi Warrior's body explodes with brilliant, white ether that lights up the whole graveyard like a temple. This, combined with a special energy signature emitted by the Psi Warrior, has the power to revitalize Jack's body, mind and soul to allow him to focus better on what he is about to be asked.

"Everyone in existance is born with a destiny, but it is also true that it is up to the individual to not only decide what it is, but to fulfill it as well. Your own destiny is up to you to decide... but as you have already proven yourself Good at heart, part of that destiny MAY already have been fulfilled. You are out to ensure the safekeeping of a dear friend, that much you already know... but think about it. Is that all there is in your existance to resolve-- or will one quest lead to another?

"You may keep up with your search, and I will make sure you have the Psi Warriors as an optional ally. Should you take this road, you WILL succeed. I know this because Good ALWAYS triumphs over Evil. But it will be one of the hardest things you will ever have to accomplish, and you will feel like giving up many times. You will have to decide if you are stronger than those trials.

"Or, you may end that quest right now. As you asked, I will obliterate you and send your destroyed soul back to the Spiritual Plane where it will reform into a new one, as goes the cycle. You will never find out if your friend is safe or not.

"Those are your two options, though it may not seem like it. Take as much time as needed and ask anything you feel is necessary before making your descision. I act on your will."

Diaxos is still in tears, for this is a very emotional time for him. He would've loved to meet a Psi Warrior in ANY other circumstance but this.

OOC: You can also PM me with OOC questions if you're wondering how to respond. I don't always like putting people in these scenarios.

Things were happening almost too quickly for Jack to process. What with the Psi Warrior actually offering peace, and then explaining his position in a way he had never even considered, he wouldn't have believed it all if the revitalizing blast hadn't cleared his mind.

Jack shook off his astonishment and considered his options. Of course he didn't want it all to end - how could he have been hoping for that just a few minutes earlier? He didn't even have the right to quit until he found his friend. As he thought it over longer, accepting the Psi Warrior's friendship seemed more and more like the right solution. No, he couldn't quit so soon...

But then, all of the odds were so faced against him. Success was just impossible! What to do when your soul has been marked for Suffering? There was no way to alter Judgment's decision, and he couldn't evade death forever. Eventually he would be caught, and almost certainly before he could see a trace of his friend.

Jack appreciated the Psi Warrior's offer, and that he even considered speaking before attacking. He used the tombstone to pull himself up to height, having formed an answer.

Jack: "Listen, you've helped me find my path, and thank you for that. It was... terribly wrong for me to try to release my anger by hurting Diaxos, or anyone else that the disaster would have affected. And seeking oblivion isn't an option... at least not now. I have to keep going. Huh, you know, you have some good reasons to finish me off right now. But, if you ARE going to spare me... then I'll find less destructive actions from now on."

Head hung low, Jack smiled somberly to the Psi Warrior.

It was then that he noticed the black hooded figure standing at a distance behind him. How long had it been there? His gaze met its hidden stare, and in an instant this second reaper was directly at his side, choking his senses with tentacle - like streams of smoke that drifted from its robes. Death, in its usual fashion, had come unexpectedly and unannounced.

I should have expected you'd be here, Jack, even without all of these blaring sirens of good and evil going off. This is your favorite hideout, after all.

The reaper's voice was strangely human. It had youthful feminine qualities, and would have been ordinary were it not for the ethereal echoes that traced her voice. Jack, however, grasped at the air and struggled to breath - strange for him, because being dead he did not even need air. This actual reaper had obvious power over him. As Jack fell helplessly to his knees, the reaper turned to the Psi Warrior.

Pardon me for intruding on your conversation, Psi Warrior, but life's final words are more oft pronounced sooner than intended, and Jack's rogue life must indeed end here. Surely your kind are aware of the Council of the Dead?

She snapped her fingers, and in a puff of black smoke a badge-marked paper appeared bobbing in front of her for the Psi Warrior to see.

Just the organization responsible for the management of all the souls of the deceased - mortal affairs really, shouldn't be much of a concern to you. I'll handle Jack from here, thank you.

The reaper held out her gloved hands to a packet of papers that had suddenly appeared in front of her, and she began quickly scribbling away with a raven feather quill. Jack, at her feet, choked aloud.

Jack: "Alexa! *cough* Handle me, you say? Since when are you allowed to *cough cough* reap one of the living?

The reaper looked down at Jack from her scribbling, and tentacles of smoke wrapped themselves around his mouth and body, silencing and binding him.

Alexa: Oh, one for rules now, are we? You are not technically alive, Jack, and you know it. You were not authorized for reincarnation, and your body contains no pulse.

She lowered herself to him and spoke quietly into his ear as he struggled to get free.

Alexa: You know, there's no one I'd want be reaping more right now than you, Jack. Look at you, squirming in the dirt as my very own kill. Still think all injustice is not rewarded in the end?

She brought herself back up to full height. She was quite tall.

Alexa: Tut, and I thought you would have given us a better chase. Come along, Jack, eternity awaits.

The floating items disappeared, and Alexa charged a green spherical portal just like Jack had done in the battle before. Even for a certified reaper with full powers, it would take a moment for the portal to the Netherworld to be completed, allowing Diaxos or the Psi Warrior to offer any last words to Jack. But what was there to say? Jack struggled less and less in the confines of the smoky tentacles, and then stopped altogether. So much for that ray of light...

OOC: This is my second attempt at this post. Here's nothin'...

"JACK!!" Diaxos cries, readying Chaosmusket. But the white-clad ether man has other plans.

"That's enough, Alexa."

The Psi Warrior bows his head for a moment, then snaps his white ether-coated fingers. Instantly the whole graveyard explodes with etheral energy again, and this time it's very dangerous. The ether suddenly zeroes in on the female Reaper from all sides, likely crushing her for some pretty heavy power (considering the Reaper is likely Undead, and has an Evil heart as well, meaning this normally harmless maneuver would be devastating to her) and binding her with the Holy energy in a way similar to how Jack was bound just a moment ago. As the energy rushes over Jack's weird shackles, they dissolve, and he is free.

The Psi Warrior approaches Alexa.

"Do you actually believe that the Council would have you behaving that way-- and furthermore, treating a soul, ANY soul, with the bitterness and scorn you have displayed? You have Evil in your heart, you knave. Evil must die at my hands. That is my destiny.

"But not yet. First, I will explain my own actions, as to not sink to your level as I may have appeared to. I am quite familiar with the Council-- for 25 years, I was a mercenary assassin. But Evil took refuge in my heart, and I started killing for the fun of it near the end of that career. One day, though, I happened to casually target a Psi Warrior... and she just wouldn't die. She mortally wounded me, seeming to have an elemental edge of some kind-- the same edge I have over you now, in fact, the edge over Evil. But as I fainted, she took me to a house to heal and recover. For 3 days I slept, and had 3 visions... one from Sensae about the Living Assets, one about the families of those I killed during my bloodlust, and one from none other than the Council of the Dead which you are a part of. I learned it ALL by the time I awoke, and vowed to pay my debt to the world as a Psi Warrior from that day on.

"The Council back then was NOT you. It was fair and just, strict though it may be, and the Assets that guide me speak to me that it still is, and always will be. Do you represent the Council? Your actions do not. You have become twisted by your hatred for this rouge.

"He is in the hands of a greater power than the Council now... the Psi Warriors, for his heart is Good and he has promised himself that he will fulfill the Destiny he has placed upon himself. As his spiritual ally, NO form of Evil will prevent him from doing that, as long as I have a Material form to fight in.

"I will release you now, and you will have no power over Jack, for I have taken your powers with the Ether for a temporary period." He claps once, and the Etheral energy instantly dissolves. "Do not forget-- the Assets are a far worse foe than an escaped soul. You, nor the whole Council, do not want to deal with this power. Now GO."

Diaxos is speechless, but he runs in between Jack and Alexa during the Psi Warrior's speech just in case. His blade is still ready, as well.

OOC: I hope I didn't break any rules... All my actions in this post was plot-driven.

Jack, relieved to be free of the suffocating ropes, quickly scrambled backward across the ground and climbed to his feet. However, he was not even slightly relieved by what would have appeared to be a positive shift of events.

Jack: "Erm, Psi Warrior, I don't think you understand entirely who you're messing with. And maybe the Council's been a bit flustered as of late, but really there's a huge part of this story that you, ehm, don't know. !! - "

Alexa: Indeed, it would appear there is.

Alexa had recovered from the shock of the Psi Warrior's attack, which did less damage than was intended. She certainly did hold a grudge to Jack, and it was that bitterness that was turned against her to stun her for what time it did, but she was not evil and she was not governed by it. Without even glancing at Diaxos, the reaper strode forward and passed right through him, bringing herself directly by Jack and the Psi Warrior.

Alexa: Hmph, promised to turn over a new leaf, did he? Do you even know who you are defending, Psi Warrior? The Council has determined Jack's fate according to age-old methods, and his numerous crimes in life and death have been carefully recorded. Before you call him a hero, let me give you a better understanding of the side of Jack few know.

Jack: "Alexa, they don't need to know these things!! They're matters beyond life, and it's really a - a waste of time to explain such - such minor details. Look, don't bother with this, I'll recharge the portal myself!"

A bit of green energy spat out of Jack's palm in his attempt to create another portal (the one Alexa started had been destroyed when her powers were temporarily sapped), but he was not able to concentrate enough to establish one. Alexa would have silenced him with her will, but finding herself unable to, she only growled lowly and flipped through a black book that had appeared in her arms. She stopped when she found the tab indicating Jack's section, laughed quietly and licked her finger to turn the page.

Alexa: Oh, this one's lovely. "Jack, ‘last-name-not-important’, guilty of Suicide on the night of ‘date-unimportant’" - having leapt off of a high bridge over the local sound. Such an offense would have gained him an instant ticket to the Seventh Circle, but a friend of his made a sacrifice on his behalf and he was instead sentenced to work for the Council.

Jack, with his head already hung in shame, winced at the mention of this 'sacrifice.'

Jack: "Alexa, please - "

Alexa: "MISUSE of the reaper code: Unauthorized reaping" - Jack abused his powers as a reaper not even a year later, and took the lives of several people before they were scheduled for death. Not only is this murder, but it also caused enormous problems for the Council that took weeks to sort out.

Jack: "This is not - that wasn't even - !!"

Alexa: "Misuse of the reaper code: Neglect of duties" - Jack would ignore the souls he was assigned to reap on many occasions while he wandered off in the Netherworld doing who-knows-what, leaving the souls to roam the earth as ghosts and their bodies to become zombies.

Jack: "You don't understand, see, that was - "

Alexa continued reading, her voice like dripping venom. She knew this was agony to Jack, and it was only chance that the Psi Warrior had the right to know of his evils.

Alexa: "Treachery against the Council" - Jack unwittingly let loose some demons from Suffering into the City of the Dead while off on one of his escapades, resulting in countless casualties. "Use of evil magic" - Evil spells are frowned upon by any user and are forbidden to reapers. "Misuse of the reaper code" - Jack intentionally blocked the passage to the Netherworld for a few minutes, causing a horrendous buildup of ghosts. Do you know how many people die in five minutes? All of the lost souls have still not been recovered yet. "Treachery against the Council: High Treason" - Jack even contemplated doing in the supreme judges, which got him stripped of most of his powers and sent packing for Suffering. "Misuse of the reaper code: interfering with mortals; Treachery against the Council: failure to cooperate with Judgment; Misuse of the reaper code: unauthorized reincarnation" - Jack's been living among mortals now for a few months when he's supposed to be in Suffering, as you know. Ah, and finally: "Misuse of the reaper code: unauthorized portal creation" – this one was added just recently, when Jack attempted to merge two dimensions together. I don't want to think of the chaos that would have caused.

Alexa was now sneering with disgust under her hood, and Jack stood mutely in front of her, eyes closed. The ominous list disappeared in smoke.

Alexa: I see you've got the gist of it. This list goes on and on, but I'm on a rather tight schedule and cannot stick around reading you stories forever.

Though Jack couldn't see her face, he knew that he and Alexa had just made eye contact. There was indeed more that she had left out, including a particularly heinous crime that directly affected her and was even responsible for their loss of friendship. That didn’t need to be brought up, however – at least Alexa was kind enough not to mention that.

Alexa: Listen, whether I like Jack or not is of little consequence; I am simply under orders to bring him back to the Netherworld where he can attend his trial, from which he will most likely be sent to Suffering. I don’t write the rules, I merely implement them.

She briskly grabbed Jack and pulled him forward, and then brandished her scythe with her other arm.

Alexa: Jack’s fate is not your concern, Psi Warrior, and you do not have the right to keep him from the Council. Ancient ways must be upheld; he must be tried. The Council may not have rights over your soul because of your allegiance to the Psi Warriors and their own designs for the afterlife, but Jack shares no loyalty.

She paused for just a moment.

Alexa: If you attempt to keep him from me any longer, you will be denying a soul access to the realm of the dead and I will be forced to stop you.

Alexa charged the portal once more, staring at the Psi Warrior the whole time and holding her scythe at him. Jack simply stood lifelessly at her side, staring at the ground quietly.

Alexa: Let’s not make war over someone as worthless as Jack. Surely you have better things to do?

The Psi Warrior simply smiles, and Diaxos looks up at him, confused.

"Ha ha... Ha ha ha! HA HA HA HAH!!"

His laugh startles Diaxos and maybe the others.

"Alexa, what's so funny is how intelligent you SEEM to sound, but how arrogant you actually come across. You remind me of Schwa in a lot of ways, and Sensae in others... You tell the "truth" in such a way as to make it sound any way you want it to sound. That's called a loophole. See, there are still many, many things you have not told me, each and every one of those things highly relavant.

"I will not name them all, because you-- and the Assets-- already know what I mean, but for Jack's sake, how 'bout just a few? First, the Council of the Dead is, by all means, NOT the only soul-processing orginization in existance, nor did it always exist... Before the Council, and in many cases today, souls automatically return to the Spiritual Plane after the body dies, and depending on what Dimension they end up in, for it truly is random in the instance of physical Death... they may either enter another mortal body of some species as it is born and start over, or in some instances they make their own body (since it does indeed depend on the Dimension), so they are no longer considered Undead... Those are the two that usually happen, but there are infinite instances. Diaxos should fit that second one mostly, at least."

Diaxos gasps. "What!!? Wha-- I-- I do!?"

"So as I was saying, before the Council, there WAS no Paradise or Suffering, and souls managed on their own as part of nature, you could say. You may think the Council was there for eternity, but eternity is subjective for one, and also, long ago, there WAS no Material Plane, and THIRD, the Council STILL doesn't have power over souls in other Dimensions. That said, you may even be doing more harm than good... Just like Mortals, whenever man tries to improve what Nature has given us, all balance is thrown to chaos.

"And what about Legions? They were first introduced to our Plane when a horrible Vampire summoned one, but before it was killed by the Vampire Slayer in the vampire's castle it had already reproduced somehow. Legions are probably the Council's worst trouble of all-- and what do they do about it? Nothing, of course. Why? Because, like I said before, they cannot touch souls in other Dimensions, which is where Legions now live, except when they come into OUR plane... Who neutralizes the Legions? The Psi Warriors, obviously. The list really does go on and on...

"It is not my place to judge a criminal soul. That would fall under Sensae's category. But I will not stand for a character who tries this hard to prevent the destiny of a Mortal! See, ANYONE can receive redemption, no matter how many or how worse offenses he or she has made. Jack will prove that. And I will make sure you do not intervere. Prepare yourself."

Suddenly, there's a female voice behind the Psi Warrior. "Jacob! Sensae sent me. Let us handle this!"

He turns around, and sees two other Psi Warriors that have come to help. One's annanymous, and the other is none other than Allaura, Schwa's admirer and an experienced Defensive fighter against Evil.

"Blast... And at the same time I get a summon from Sensae. Allaura, Jo, can you two handle Alexa?"

"You got it," Allaura says.

"Allaura, stay in combat while I tweak the Graveyard's natural Energy Signature to normalize the target."

"Got it." Jo silently wavers out of existance in teleportation. As for Jacob, who's been here longest, with one hand motion he has summoned a crystal disc under Jack's feet. It suddenly levitates and darts behind Jacob in the air. Jacob is on a Disc as well, and they're both airborne now.

"We're getting outta here, Jack. You can control the Disc with your mind. FOLLOW ME."

He darts off, helping Jack to steer and not fall off if necessary. Allaura and Diaxos now face Alexa, but the latter is still confused.

"What did he say about me? I need to know! I NEED to!"

"Diaxos, calm down and hide somewhere," Allaura tells him.

He comes to his senses.
"Wait, no... No way, I can fight too! Just keep me covered, alright? You'll need some Physical damage inflicted at some point, right? Just trust me! Besides... It's always been my dream to fight for you guys..."

"Diaxos... I... Alright. Let's do this. Alexa, this is a message from the Assets themselves: You're goin' DOWN."

Round 2 begins.

OOC: Sorry for the short notice, but I thought this would be a bit interesting; my 2 characters vs. your 1 super-powerful character. 'Sides, it makes for good story material. Come on, sock it to me!

Ooh, this is just going to be oodles of fun. I never designed Alexa or any of the reapers for battling, so this should be a one time thing. So this is special!
---

Jack: "Whuh - what is this awful thing?"

Jack's disc waved unsteadily beneath him as he tried to operate it, but he was able to level himself before falling off. Learning the mechanism's functions fairly quick, he brought the disc closer to Alexa but too high for her to reach. He then crouched down on the disc and leaned forward, gripping the edge carefully, so that he was practically face to face with her.

Jack: "Well, guess I got my angel wings after all! I'll suffer you later, Lex, I've got to go redeem my destiny. Hyeh heh heh!"

Alexa: Jack, you get back here or there'll be serious consequences! ...Er, even more serious ones than there are now! Jaaaack!!!

And, spinning precariously away, he zoomed to Jacob's side, just barely missing Diaxos' head and actually knocking one off of a gargoyle.

Jack: "Later Diaxos. Again, sorry about the whole trying to senselessly mutilate you thing. We'll meet again, perhaps in your nightmares!"

As Jack went off with Jacob, Alexa stood livid before Diaxos and Allaura, rubbing her forehead in frustration.

Alexa: Look, now he's escaped again! Heaven knows what kind of chaos he'll cause now. Oooohhhhh, the Council won't be pleased at all!

It looked like she'd have to fight this new Psi Warrior instead. On such a busy schedule, too! She composed herself once more.

Alexa: So, you plan to fight Death, do you? Priceless. But so be it then!

Like a wisp of smoke in a quick gust, Alexa seemed to shift over to Allaura, difficult to focus on and arrived just as soon as she had set forth. And then, she was holding her scythe at the other side of the Psi Warrior, having already made a horizontal slash at her! The scythe was a terribly deadly thing, capable of knocking out a mortal if he were to simply brush by its blunt side.

Yet it all of her power, Alexa wasn't allowed to kill Allaura or Diaxos, and she would not break that rule. She was not, however, forbidden to make these next few minutes a torturous experience like no other.

OOC: Awesome! That's why I like RPers like you-- you actually appreciate a major plot twist like this. +

"Focus, Allaura... ...!!"

Alexa's tricky maneuver is successful, and all Allaura can manage to do is block her body from the scythe with her red-ether coated arms. When she is hit, there is an interesting consequence. She takes reduced damage from the ether defense, which is still quite a sum, but recieves heavy pain as if not even using ether, and as the scythe connects, Allaura's whole body explodes with rainbow-colored ether. She stumbles back and winces, then feels a new power flow through her.

"Gah, that was serious! ...What? Is... my Asset-infused soul energy reacting to the amount of Dark energy stored in that weapon? Ha HA! I better use this boost while it lasts."

True, the boost will only last for half of Alexa's next move.

"Psi Arrow!" (echo effects)

She makes three hand-motions and brings her palms together, firing what looks like a short energy javelin of hardened ether out of them that makes a beeline for Alexa's current position. She's kinda close to the target, though... This attack does slightly above-average Holy/Psychic damage (but not as much as Schwa's Alpha Psibeam), but it's famous for it's ability to pierce ALL means of Magical/Mana Defesne.

Diaxos stands ready, not attacking yet.
"Where do you want me, Allaura?"

"Get behind her," she says with telepathy. He gets ready to move.
