A pair of shadows flitted across a dreary, blackened landscape. Their shapes contorted into broken caricatures over numerous headstones in their silent flight, and which was the true shadow was hard to tell - both were as dark and as swift as the other; and both seemed to leap from gravestone to gravestone to hide from the full yellow moon. Yet one finally sank into the other as Jack reached the crooked steps to a mausoleum and slowed his almost playful run. Shifting around slowly, he sat down at the top step, veiled under the shade of the edifice, and let his face drop into his hands. He remained there for a long time, just sitting gloomily in the cemetery by himself. This was one place he could always come to when he was feeling down.

But he wasn't really alone. Only he could see the ghosts wandering about, just old recordings of life.
He, alone, could see the little misshapen death sprites whizzing around the graves to pick a coffin to feast in. One of the sprites that he was friendly with tried to make an appearance before him, but feeling him coming, Jack used his powers to block the passage. He hated everything and everyone right now, and the least he could do was keep to himself for now...

OOC: I need more experience with this character and a hard victory. Here goes...

"Eesh, this place definitely gives me the creeps... but they were here just yesterday, locked in an engagement, so..."

A second figure steps into the cemetery through the huge, uninviting gate. He wears a teal tunic with a pure sapphire in the center of the torso, and one with nearly any kind of special power could feel an immense amount of arcane energy radiating from that gem. His hair is brown and messy to give it that stereotypical anime spiky look. He appears as a 14-year-old human boy, but his true origins not only are unknown, they are enough to flabbergast even the most studious mage should they ever be revealed. Finally, the boy seems completely unarmed.

Instantly after stepping inside the cemetery boundaries, Jack should be able to sense him. But it doesn't necessarily work both ways.

"Something tells me I shouldn't be careless meditating in this place, but they said I should, so... let me find a good spot... MAN, I hate this place..."

After a moment of consideration, Jack decided to look up when he sensed someone's presence in the graveyard... not the presence of someone dead, but an actual living being. Strange, people didn't often wander to this place. He thought he saw someone walking through the gate, but he couldn't make out any details in this darkness.

Jack suddenly felt the temporal bulge of something trying to appear again, and before he could stop it, Atrats materialized before him. The disgustingly lumpy creature twitched madly as it floated in the air in front of Jack.

Atrats: " Hey, Jaaack! There's a little kid in the graveya - yipe! "

Jack interrupted by stabbing at Atrats with his dagger. The death sprite wisely turned to smoke before the blade could connect, and he reappeared at Jack's other side.

Jack: "I'm not in the mood for games right now."

Atrats: "Ah, uh, oh, I see. Toodles!"

And Atrats hurriedly disappeared in a puff of smoke before Jack could make another attempt at harming him.

Though Jack thought he would rather have remained where he was, he found himself climbing down the steps and toward the boy before he knew it. As he approached the kid, he hid in the shadows of a tombstone, just a pair of glowing green eyes floating in the darkness.

"....Uh-oh...."

As the boy looks up to see two glowing eyes before him floating in the void of shadow, he knows in the back of his mind that instances like these aren't usually good signs. He thinks of revealing his trusty true weapon, the Runed Katana, which he KNOWS he'll need at some point in the very near future, but as he thinks it over in a few instant moments he decides on "dragon over tiger", a.k.a. concealing his power.

No, it would be much more beneficial to play it cool.

"Sorry to intrude, but the Psi Warriors have been here recently. There was a battle. I came following the energy signature, for I seem to be drawn to the Psi Warriors. You know of them, don't you?"

He decides that, after an intro like that, things may not even be nearly as dreadful as he thought they were about to get. But in these scenarios, prediction of future events is, safe to say, near impossible.

The eyes contorted into a sort of frown when the boy mentioned Psi Warriors.

Jack: "...Psi Warriors here? ...They don't belong in this land..."

He seemed to speak to himself rather than to the boy. Another moment of silence, and then he stepped out of the shadow, revealing the rest of himself. He was a boy, perhaps a few years older than the one standing before him, although something about him told that he was older than he looked. He had black, shiny hair in that similar spiky shape. The glowing green eyes were coated with eyeshadow, which contrasted to his deathly pale skin. He wore a black coat with a tail that stopped at his calves, and underneath that was a long sleeve shirt, also black, that extended a little past his palms. He wore ebony gloves with holes for his fingers, which were in stitches for some reason. The monochromatic ensemble was completed with black pants and boots that had all sorts of silver zippers and buckles, which seem to serve no purpose in their placement. All in all, he blended in rather nicely to the graveyard scene.

Jack: "I've only heard the tales of Psi Warriors and their heroic triumphs over demons and the like. Guess they wouldn't like me very much, then."

Jack lowered his head and fixed a menacing gaze at the boy.

Jack: "You wouldn't be... associated with them, would you?"

Something tells the boy this is a VERY sensitive subject, but he plays the dare...

"Not... related, at least, but... I'm definitely here because of their presence, if that means anything... Hey, don't get the wrong idea. I just follow them. I've never even met a Psi Warrior before, to be completely honest."

There is a pause, then the boy gets an idea. He walks to the side and, in a casual manner, leans against part of a ruined stone wall.

"You know your time is limited, I bet. The Psi Warriors don't care about the emotions of those who delve into the dark-- they simply slay those people without mercy. In a sense that would kinda make them the bad guys, at least to the type of people I mentioned. ...They're targeting you, aren't they? We can talk about something else if it's unpleasant to think of."

He climbs onto the top of the piece of wall, sitting there. He's now staring down at Jack.

"What's your name? I call myself Diaxos, because nobody was super handy to give me a name when I appeared."

His last sentence was "cryptic but friendly in nature", to be accurate. To trust or not to trust? He sure seems to know a lot about the Psi Warriors, for one...

Jack was amused with Diaxos's casual manner, the way he leaned against the wall so smoothly. He made the smallest smile, but it didn't last more than a moment.

Jack: "Actually, I've hardly given Psi Warriors a thought. I don't think I'm important enough to warrant a hunt, but eh, I could be wrong. Not that it matters. They'd have Hell trying to catch me."

Jack's gaze veered off to the side for a moment as he thought to himself, but snapped to attention when he realized he had avoided Diaxos's question.

Jack: "'Names Jack. Not to be confused the other Jack that lives in the town a ways down the road."

He motioned behind him, where some faint lights glowed over the distant hills. Jack walked closer to the wall, and leaned on it himself with one arm.

Jack: "So. Looks like you're obsessed with Psi Warriors. What'd you say if I nabbed one for ya? Heh heh heh..."

That last remark could have been a joke, but it was always hard to tell with Jack.

At first, Diaxos' face is that of uncertainty, but he quickly obtains a smooth smirk right before his reply:

"No offense? I don't really think that you could. I know it's not exactly cool to judge on appearances, but yours tell me you... *hand motion* PROBABLY wouldn't get along much with, let alone last long against, these masters of the ether. That's my hunch."

Diaxos climbs to the highest pillar on the wall, which isn't much higher than the wall itself, and stands his full height atop the mini pillar, in a stance that looks KINDA like he's praying, but not quite.

"Still," he continues, a little quietly this time, "...Will I be destined to follow their shadows forever... or will I actually meet the ones who I unknowingly seek?"

He undergoes a form of silent meditation, but Jack is still perfectly able to add some form of two cents.

Jack choked back a laugh as he watched Diaxos unexpectedly dive into meditation. He silently let him continue the ritual for a few minutes, but soon had to continue the conversation.

Jack: "If all you're doing is coming to battle sites after the Psi Warriors are gone, you're never going to meet them, kid. No..." An excited gleam flashed across his eye, "You need to catch their attention. Bring them to you. You know? Somehow, make something happen that'll make them come right to you."

Jack paced around the graves, holding his chin thoughtfully. He was liking this more and more.

Jack: "A - a... a disaster perhaps..."

One of Diaxos' eyes snaps open.

"Disaster? ...I hope you weren't thinking what I thought you were thinking about thinking. If you were, let me threaten you with one word. ...Chaosmusket."

But the whole time, he can't restrain a determined smile caused by both curiosity and adrenaline.

"It ain't bad!" he thinks. "Should we battle, they'll come investigating a supposed Good/Evil clash! Of course I'm more of a neutral, but if I'm in combat against what they CONSIDER Evil, that would make them condider me a Good. But this Jack... He needs to initiate the combat. Otherwise I'd never forgive myself."

In seconds he goes over his plan several more times, the whole time barely able to restrain the glee... "I'm going to meet a Psi Warrior! I'm going to meet a Psi Warrior!"

By now, poor Diaxos has lost grip at the immense danger he's possibly in right now.

Jack: "Er... gezhunteit..."

Jack absently waved his hand at Diaxos when he mentioned the Choasmusket. He was too busy building on his wonderful idea as he paced through the tombstones.

Jack: "Yes, a disaster! A catastrophe! A horrible tragedy that would be on the surface of every mortal mind for ages to come!"

"Why didn't I think of this before?" Jack thought. "This'll keep my mind off of things..." He looked up at Diaxos on his perch, and spoke to him as if he were an accomplice.

Jack: "What'd you suggest; a fire or a flood? Nah, there's been too many of those in history. Perhaps I could start an epidemic... no, no..."

Diaxos' smile drops. "Oh... you were thinking BIG. My mistake..." *slight whimper*

There's a moment's pause, then,

"Well, as long as we're on the subject, let me suggest Quickfire. It spreads through thin air and takes only the most advanced magic-based Dispel ability to clear it out. ...At least, that's what the books say... and, we don't... have any Quickfire..."

Diaxos leaps off the pedestal, and slumps into a sitting position on the ground against it. "How'd I end up brainstorming disasters with this crazy goth, anyway?" he briefly contemplates.

OOC: I have it. For the battle to start, all Jack needs to do is decide on the disaster.

Gah, sorry, I'm taking a little while to get started =p One disaster, coming up
---

Jack considered Diaxos' suggestion.

Jack: "Quickfire, eh? No, don't believe I have any of that. No, what we need is something completely original."

Jack stared into space for a moment, his wicked grin growing ever more intense.

Jack: "I'm going to splice this realm with the Netherworld."

Jack turned around and held both of his arms apart. A green, wispy orb developed between his hands, and promptly began expanding. Jack looked back at Diaxos with a crazed expression.

Jack: "Well just let this grow to the right size in a moment, close it with something stuck halfway through, and BAM! The worlds of the living and the dead, merged, stuck right inside of each other. The chaos! Oh, the terror! Only someone like me could do this, you know." He added proudly.

The portal was growing at an incredible rate. There was no doubt that this was going to be one Hell of a disaster.

"Wait now, what's this?"

There is a few-second pause as Diaxos realizes just what's going on.

"...GAHH!!"

Immediately Diaxos' weapon forms like liquid light come from nowhere, right in his hands-- Chaosmusket, the Runed Katana. This blade is like most katanas shapewise, but the blade is a shiny, hard onyx with a gold streak from the hilt to the tip. There don't seem to be any runes on it, though...

That detail doesn't stop Diaxos from, with ninjalike agility, jump-dashing forward and slicing the quickly-growing mass of nether energy with a perfect, diagonal, pure-ninja finish, complete with a flash of light and a burst of raw, unprocessed mana which is caught inside the cut portal. This causes a complex chain reaction, and in seconds the portal begins to dissolve into particles and disappear. After a few more seconds, it's gone entirely.

"You...! I can't believe I let you sucker me into something like this! ...Now I get it. Those powers could only come from either a Necromancer or one of it's comrades, a.k.a. full-blooded Undead. THAT'S why you reacted the way you did at the talk of Psi Warriors."

He switches the sword to a single hand, and NOW is when the runes appear. Unlike before, the sword blade is suddenly coated in blue, glowing, genuine runes more cryptic than the most ancient texts on Earth. The runes flash white three times, and with each flash, a tiny speck of light similar to a colored wisp is released from the blade and begins orbiting it. Two of the lights are blue, but one is an emerald green. The runes then fade out of visibility.

"Well, the enemy of a Psi Warrior is my own enemy. Jack... I'm sorry we ended up like this. I hope you can fight back. Prepare yourself!"

Diaxos prepares for battle, knowing this will most likely not be easy... in more ways than one.

Jack stared, taken aback, from his once beautiful and now dissolved portal to Diaxos and his katana. Then all he knew was fury - an unholy rage that boiled every particle of his disgusting, lifeless blood. The nerve of that child! Spoiling his brilliant work in an act of... an act of bravery, it would seem! Jack clenched his stitched fists and glared at Diaxos with eyes that could only suggest just how he longed to mutilate that boy. Oh, he was going pay.

In a quick, violent motion, Jack jerked his dagger from its sheath and held it stiffly at his side, never lifting his unblinking green stare.

Jack: "So, this is how it will be, then? I should have known you'd get all heroic on me. Let's see if maybe your Psi buddies come to salvage your mangled corpse!!!"

Jack thrust his palm forward and charged an enormous neon-green ball at twice the rate and to twice the size he would have normally. As the ball reached about the size of Diaxos himself, he fired it forward, and it zoomed onward with incredible speed that matched Jack's temper. If struck, Diaxos would feel a peculiar fatigue as if he had some of the very life force ripped from him - which, of course, would make sense because the death ball was comprised of exactly the absence of life.

After firing the initial attack, Jack crouched to the ground with his left boot forward and his hand touching the ground. He held his dagger arm behind him, ready to be thrust forth and cause considerable pain.

"Like I said, I'm sorry! I don't often play the role of the hero, but you CAN'T be doing that nether-sphere thing. And when you sucker ME into your plans, it's personal!"

Diaxos prepares for the attack. He notices it's going to be a pain to block. "Shoot, I'm going to need the Mastery Catch for this one..."

Suddenly, Diaxos strikes! But first, the two blue lights orbiting his weapon are sucked into the blade as the runes glow back into visibility. He nearly blinks out of view as there are two instant diagonal slashes across both directions of the Death Ball, slicing it apart, as Diaxos blinks back in on the other side of the attack. The projectile was split into hundreds of tiny specks of the death energy upon sword contact, before disappearing completely.

No ordinary sword could block an attack like that. Neither could Chaosmusket, without the aid of Dimensional Chakra, a name for the lights orbiting his weapon. But it's the runes that power the sword with other-dimensional mana, and the DChakra that powers the runes, to enable it to block ANY attack, making Diaxos essentially the ultimate master of defense.

Upon dispelling the evil attack, the runes on the sword change to green as two more lights are spit out by the blade. Both of them are green, like the original third light still orbiting the weapon. He now has three greens, and not a single blue. He's not too happy with that combination.

"I need to get him to use that dagger," he decides.

"I can block anything! Wanna see?"

Diaxos' next tactic, to complete his plan, is to begin a normal-speed dash towards Jack. He starts 15 feet away, so in a few seconds he should be in melee range. He holds the runed katana, runes faded away once more, ready before him in case he needs to block again, though he hopes it's not another Death Ball before he can manage to summon more Blue DChakra.

Jack stood up from his crouching battle stance.

Jack: "Such confidence."

Jack crossed his arms as Diaxos closed in, and he suddenly turned completely black as he sank into the ground and became a shadow! The transformation was complete in a second, and Jack flew across the ground beneath Diaxos and to his other side. From there, he rose out of it again, regaining his normal color, and made a powerful slash at Diaxos' back with his dagger. As he swung the blade through the air, it gushed with blood that was not necessarily Diaxos', but came from the tip of the knife itself. If the attack connected, some of Diaxos' blood would be sapped, and as a result of the bad magic he'd feel a tremendous pain where he was hit that would last for minutes.

"Huh??" Diaxos stops his dash, looks around, whirls around at the last second...

"Hey, you-- ERK!"

...and takes the dagger swipe square in the chest, barely missing his sapphire gem. But blood isn't the achieved effect-- instead, as the knife cuts his skin, thick white flames pour out of the wound as he clutches it for a moment, releases his grip on it, and slowly looks down. Within 10 seconds, the white flames have gradually died down to not as bad a magnitude, but they're there. Diaxos forgets to attack.

"Why... Why did THAT happen... I wonder?" the boy starts, still staring at the low-key flames. "This wasn't your doing, Jack, was it? ...No, not the wound, the firey effect."

Diaxos walks to the side a little, like before. Walking backwards shows fear, so he makes it a habit not to do that often. But he keeps his eyes on Jack as he speaks...

"This isn't the first time. This is like... my blood or something. It doesn't hurt, not physically, but... I can't stand something. It's... It's the way this abnormality sets me apart from everyone else in this confusing world. Once people know, they either try to kill me or avoid me like the plague. Sometimes I DO die, and when that happens... it doesn't work. I just appear somewhere else. ...And I wonder why, but... My memories work like damaged files on a machine. They're filled with static. ...I don't even know my own past..."

By now he's forgotten he's even in a battle with this person. He seems very emotional... now that one of his secrets is out... and it's definitely clear by now that Diaxos isn't necessarily human.

Jack was alarmed as well by the fiery effect and even recoiled from the flames. He never considered the possibility that Diaxos wasn't human, or at least completely human. As Diaxos told his tale of woes, Jack at first wanted to press forth with his assault - didn't the kid realize that Jack was trying to mortally harm him? Still, whatever bit of sympathy Jack had made him listen.

Jack: "That is strange... well, you're definitely no average little boy. But... what are you, then? Do you even know that?"

Jack's anger lessened a little. Learning about Diaxos' supposed immortality let him realize that they were in the same boat, and it was no happy boat at that.

"Agh... Not-- Not at the slightest. I had just appeared out of nowhere one day, in a barren wasteland, but a minute later an elderly mage appeared and helped me out... I went to the town and ended up in a battle. But before my appearance-- AGH!" He grabs his head in pain. "Th-the memories are damaged... I can't remember ANYTHING!"

Diaxos keeps his hands pressed against his head for a while, his chest heaving with deep breaths to ease the pain. It takes some time, but it works, and he stands up straight again. The firey wound he received is almost gone. He glances at it for a few moments, then...

"Heh. Boy, to hit a katana-using foe with a dagger... You must be pretty good. That's a hard feat, ya know... Ha ha ha!" His sudden hearty laughter may be startling. "I forget why we're even fighting, really, but something inside me seriously wants to continue. You provoked my curiosity... Just how much more CAN you do in a battle?"

His positive self once more, Diaxos readies his weapon again, staring at Jack competitively but in a friendly manner. He may not be a real human, but he definitely is a pure-hearted kid. That much is undeniable.
