OOC: Welcome back, Schwa. This one's all for you... And considering your new approach, I think this will fit in very well.

It was late. Very, very late.

Two figures stood over the twilight city of Civitas Alpha. A cold wind blew and a rainstorm ravaged the otherwise beautiful city, home of the Stardust Speedway, one of the fastest modes of transportation man had ever devised.

They stood on the ledge of a building some five hundred feet below the lowest point on the speedway. Both were clad in silvery-black raincoats. Both were of about average height, inconspicuous in the nighttime storms. Neither of them, however, were average people.

Kalar: "You're sure this is the right place?"

Garro: "Positive. This is the first place that the energy signature started, and in the end it was the last place that he was seen before he was ripped from this world. There was a recorded concentration of ethereal energy here. The same kind of ether that the Psi Warriors use. There are also traces of Oracle energy. This has to be the place."

Kalar cast off his raincoat, looking up at a full view of the rainy skies. His usual tattered suit was faced with an onslaught of falling water, and he closed his eyes and took in the surrounding area...

Yes, he could feel it. A torrential downpour of psi power, a Gateway to the Aether that had formed only months before...

Kalar: "Yes... I'm interested now. What do you plan to do?"

Garro: "In due time..."

The rainstorm had begun to wane, if only because the clouds in the sky had begun to glow an eerie blue color. A very familiar eerie blue color...

---------------

Deep within his ruins in the Aztecs, Evan lay in meditation, waiting for his next rendezvous with Shen.

Searching the soul required a great deal of effort and concentration, he thought. One had to become one with the universe around him, to feel the very flow of energy in the world, to gain a second sight among the souls...

But how could you gain a second sight among souls if the soul you wanted to see... Well, if it had no owner? This question lay in his head...

About five seconds later, there was a terrible shock in his mentality, and it suddenly hit him. Evan's eyes opened, but his expression was not one of enlightenment.

It was one of sheer terror, to be seen only behind his covered glasses... He could speak only two words.

Evan: "He's returning."

---------------

Garro: "This is a very barbaric process, one that I had to study for several weeks in order to even gain a grasp on how to accomplish. It delves deep into Psi Warrior lore... The stuff Schwa would never want you to know."

Kalar: "Eh?"

As the blue clouds formed above the two of them, Garro knelt down onto the tarmac exterior of the building rooftop on which they stood. He took out a strange, blunted object and began chipping away at the rooftop tarmac. Soon, it was fairly evident that he was carving something.

Garro: "You know my strengths, Kalar. I study faith. All faith. Every faith in the world, but thus far I've never really delved into Psi Warrior theory... Really, Schwa's power was demonstrated enough to me in the past. I think you can recall it quite succinctly. Even when you displayed the ability to use Psi Warrior power, I still didn't consider it so much a faith as a science. Until, that is, I read the elder archives of their lore... A visit to Crystal Psipalace was really all I needed."

Garro continued his drawing. It looked like some kind of multi-pointed star, but on a much more basic level, it was a mock-up of the current common Psi Warrior insignia... With many, many adjustments.

"You are familiar with the concept of a Zraku protector, no? The current Psi Warrior is given one as a guardian spirit to summon to aid in the fight against evil. Nowadays, of course, they are awarded based on servitude tot he Psi faith, and upon the strength and synchrony of the two souls that are united to become warrior and protectorate. But in the past, this was not the case..."

Garro stood up from his drawing. It had become a multi-tiered mural of Psi. Having drawn something so intricate in such a short time it became clearly evident that he had practiced this for several weeks in advance. Considering his already capable hands in the realm of ritual and belief, it was no surprise that this replica was a paragon of achievement...

"...In ancient times, a Zraku was taken."

Kalar arched an eyebrow at this. Thus far he had been fairly full of disbelief for this entire endeavor...

Kalar: "Taken?"

Garro: "Yes, taken. When a truly strong soul's body is destroyed, the soul goes to live in the Ethereal Plane, better known to us as the Aether. The body was swept into the skies and transferred to the realm, where the soul transcended the body and lived on forever. A soul never truly dies, of course... But the body is destroyed in the process."

He stood back, and looked to the skies. This was going to be tough...

"So you see, the functioning of the Aether works as such: Entrance, destruction, transcendence, resurrection. The resurrection part was, of course, for the longest time, forced by the ancient Psi Judicators. Souls were ripped from the Aether and tamed... But nowadays, the bond is more spiritual. It's far more voluntary, though there are occasional disparities. In any case, we're not talking about nowadays. Instead, we're going for a more ancient approach."

Kalar: "You mean we're going rip him from the Aether, correct?"

Garro: "Precisely."

OOC: Starting character appears for a short time only. I wouldn't make this guy a regular, don't worry.

Edit: Hah, I lied, it seems. I can't promise he won't become a full-fledged character. SOWWY!

"What the HELL?"

Suddenly, Garro and Kalar can feel a presence that was NOT there before. Though this presence can't quite be seen from their current angle, it is clear that somebody was a little surprised at detecting someone who knows so much about FORBIDDEN Psi Warrior lore.

That someone is standing in front of a closed window, on that tiny brick sliver people dare to call "sills", 6 floors from the roof... listening... and occasionally butting in...

"That's a loooooot of info. Yes, defninitely. I hope you have a good reason for, er, well... knowing what you know. Technically I wasn't supposed to hear that bit, y'know... You gonna speak up?"

Shen: "Evan?"

Shen walked into the room that Evan was now in. A hand was holding her straw hat as a small draft threatened to carry it away. Shen had felt Evan's calm disappear suddenly just a moment ago. At first she thought something happened to him.

Shen: "Are you ok Evan? You seem shocked."

Far away, in some city COMP alerted Dracoon that something was up.

COMP: "Energy spike detected."

Dracoon scanned the data and it didn't seem like anything that would concern him, but he couldn't pass it off as nothing.

Dracoon to COMP: "Keep an eye on it, but it is probably nothing; however, if something happens, alert me."

Garro: "Kalar, we've got a guest. I'd suggest we concentrate on the task at hand..."

Kalar: "You sure? He'd do well to run, if you're about to do what I think you're about to do."

Garro: "Hrm."

The "priest" kneeled to the ground once more, and laid his hands upon the rim of the carved insignia.

"There's more to the Psi Story... These practices were forbidden. Our little interloper is right, they've disappeared in the scheme of Psi history and were replaced with other methods. However, the old methods, despite their barbarism, remain much more powerful than the new. We'll need that power... No physical body has ever been directly ripped from the Aether before. This should be very interesting to see regardless of its pass or fail rate. In the very least, we can see if the phylactery effect will have deteriorated his physicality at all. According to the research I've conducted, he'll be in horrible condition unless his regenerative properties kicked into overdrive at some point. That, or he found some way to protect himself against the Aether."

Kalar: "How does it work, though...?"

Garro: "Simply enough. The Aether is a functional plane that relies strictly upon the natural order of souls and incarnations of them to be followed to a T. When a physical body of some sort is introduced into the environment, the body naturally deteriorates as a result of the involuntary reaction to the existence of ethereal energy (which, if you'll remember, exists within all of us but is only manifest by the Psi Warriors and their ilk) in a physical form. In a sense, the body is "digested" into the Aether. It's the spiritual equivalent of being locked in the Sarlaac pit for a thousand years."

Kalar: "Sounds painful."

Garro: "Immensely so. If he hasn't protected himself, these past six months will have been hell for him, especially considering the fact that time passes much faster in the Aether than it does here."

Kalar: "Around how much time should have passed for him, then?"

Garro: "I'd wager on about four or five years. Imagine it. Four or five years of constant pain and suffering at the hands of something that everyone else in the universe benefits from. Kind of gets to a person, you see. If that's the case, he's going to be insanely relieved when he gets out. Or mad as hell, we'll see."

Kalar: "Hrm. Get on with it, then?"

Garro: "Of course. Let's see if this works..."

He reached into his coat, and from the breast pocket, pulled a book with three strange symbols etched onto the front of it. Had it been... stolen?

Garro: "The chant..."

Roughly translated, it went a little something like this...

"Bring us this, our ally/
Taken from the Aether far and deep/
Whose soul in life did Respect all others/
Whose actions in death did bring greatest Honor/
Whose will in existence will forever have Virtue./
These three, the Life Aspects, have allowed/
This soul another chance to live./
These three, the Life Aspects, have allowed/
Us to take this soul back from the great beyond/
To serve its purpose yet again in life./
These three, the Life Aspects, have given us/
Cause to seek its power and guidance./
Our ally, our servant, our Zraku!"

At the final shout of the word "Zraku", the only word that Kalar noticed out of the whole gibbering chant, there was a sudden flash of light!

The skies opened up, and down from the heavens poured a burst of pure, unrefined ether! The whole city was drawn to stare at the skies, as a gateway to the final frontier of existence itself opened wide and prepared to deliver its latest acquisitions. It whirled like a raging maelstrom of blue, streaking, gaseous spiritual energy, enshrouding Kalar, Garro, and the entire building rooftop in its magnificent glory.

But then, something strange happened...

The purity of the ether was suddenly tainted by a faint, purple glow that appeared within it. The glow became more and more prominent as the eerie blue color was extinguished, and suddenly engulfed by the purple color. For miles around, streetlamps shorted out, computers flickered and went black, walls vibrated, and tuning forks hummed with a deafening roar. The entire city of Civitas Alpha was reduced to pure chaos as a chorus of screams from the frightened citizens rang out, having been deprived of their usual serenity for just that moment.

The tornado of clashing purple and blue seemed to struggle for an instant, and in the midst of it all, a figure materialized, having been drawn from the Aether by the power of Garro's faith in the ancient Psi Arts alone...

As the instant passed, the streetlamps turned back on, the walls stopped vibrating, the once-dead computers returned to their former processes, and even the tuning forks lay quiet. The screams died down and stopped, as the citizens realized that what they were experiencing may have just been a poorly-timed power outage...

A lone figure descended to the rooftop, covered in a light purple aura. His eyes, when they opened, glowed a soft blue color, quickly flickering and going out, as the purple itself faded. They were instead replaced by expressive pools of dark brown and black.

He was tall, but his posture was ravaged by his period of suffering. He wore street clothes, now tattered from having been eaten away by the Aether itself. A wave of his hands, and his clothes were restored. A simple button-down shirt, long pants, and a t-shirt with an unknown insignia on it comprised his attire now. His hair, normally short and brown, had grown long and haggard in years past, and his face was cropped with a scraggly beard. Someone had clearly forgotten to shave while being eaten by a soul recycler. This, too, was quickly fixed with a wave of a hand. Clean-shaven and trimmed, he looked much more like his usual, eternally young self.

Strapped to his back, or slung over his shoulder in whatever way you may consider, was a very large, heavy duffel bag. It was rectangular in shape, adorned with many pockets and compartments that were clearly stuffed to the brim with mounds of nothing. It, however, very much unlike the rest of the man, was completely undamaged, almost as if it had been protected the entire time by an unknown force.

He took in a breath of fresh air, and the rain around the centralized ether storm had stopped. The night sky was clear and strong, a deep blue-black color, dotted with stars and the milky white of the galactic display.

In a matter of seconds, it was like he had never left.

---------------

Evan breathed heavily, realizing the ramifications of this sudden appearance, and feeling every last piece of the being's reentry into this world. He dragged his eyes over to his companion, and continued speaking in cryptic half-statements.

Evan: "I'm fine. But, you need to know."

He got up and walked over to her, clasping her shoulders and bringing his massiveness down to her petite stature.

"Our time has finally come. He's come back to this world."

---------------

The man stretched himself, and twisted and turned, almost completely ignoring Kalar and Garro's presence. Finally, it was Kalar who broke the silence. In awe at the power of his friend's abilities, he could do no more than ask the most basic of questions.

Kalar: "I-is it really you?"

No response. The being simply continued stretching, and took his bag in his hands a few times, lifting it to see if its magic was still in effect. Indeed, it was.

Garro: "Shh. He may still be adjusting to the relief."

They waited, as the being continued his assessment of his own abilities. He walked a few feet left and right, took a short hop here and there, and finally stopped to meditate upon his thoughts for a few seconds. Finally, he turned to Kalar and Garro, and asked but one question. His expression was serious. His voice, though unchanged, echoed with a resolute devotion that was unmatched by any past occurance.

Janus: "Where is Schwa?"

Those three words resonated throughout the night, and Kalar and Garro suddenly felt nothing but an intense desire to answer his question as truthfully as they could. Was it all they could do? Garro spoke before Kalar could raise his hand to offer a suggestion.

Garro: "He's at Crystal Psipalace, along with Sensae and many of the other Psi Warriors. Why?"

Janus: "I see. And Yiusi?"

Garro: "We... we don't know. The last I heard of her, she went into exile after you disappeared. From what I gather, she blamed the entire event on herself..."

Janus had not answered Garro's question, but finally gave an ambiguous response. Perhaps he was keeping something from Garro. Perhaps he was protecting him?

Janus: "No, no, it wasn't her fault, I can tell you that much. You're sure he's at Crystal Psipalace? I need to meet him there. I have something to tell him. Something to find there, as well... It's very important to me."

Garro: "Yes, it's where I retrieved the book that helped to summon you. I saw him there."

Janus: "Good. Thank you, both of you... It's good to be back. I will discuss this more later. For now, I must act. Meet me at the old spot in 24 hours. I need some time to recollect my thoughts."

Without even waiting for a response, Janus filled himself with that same purple light, and clutched his bag. He rocketed off into the night, presumably in the direction of the Crystal Psipalace. Moving at an uncharted speed, the wind itself was cut by his approach, which grew ever faster as the moments passed. Garro and Kalar were awestruck...

Kalar: "Since when can he fly?"

Garro: "And more importantly, what could he need to tell Schwa?"

Kalar: "I'm not sure... But for the time being, I think we need to just smile and nod. Come on, we've got somewhere to go."

Garro nodded, and a pair of angelic wings sprouted from his back as Kalar made a hydraulic leap off the building and onto another rooftop. The old meeting place, he thought... This would be a blast from the past.

---------------

Evan, too, had started moving. There was a lot to be done, a lot that needed to happen in order to adapt to this sudden change in events.

Evan: "He has returned, we need to be ready for what is about to happen. This is the hailing of a very important event in this timeline. Now that Janus is back, great things are afoot. You may have heard of him, you may not. I can't be sure, considering your nature. What I can be sure of is that we have to meet him at Crystal Psipalace for this whole thing to go off without a hitch. And we have to get there in time. We have to move! Now!"

He dashed out of his ruinous domain, stuffing his Master Emerald shards, now glowing violently, into his leather waistcoat. He checked one more time to make sure every inch of his skin was covered, and leapt off into the sky, filling himself with Chaos energy...

"Chaos Control!!!"

He felt the now-controlled energy keep him aloft, and sped off into the skies like a flash, leaving Shen in the dust... if she couldn't keep up, that is.

The concealed figure psychically listened to the entire event. Shock overtakes him, a rarity for this man.

"Oh my God. They summoned something from the Etheral Dimension made physical. It could destroy the world in minutes. I'm not going to LET it. Ether of light, take me to HQ."

With that, Psi Warrior Slate disappears in silent teleporation. He suddenly finds himself on a familiar balcony. Some of his comrades see him appear nearby.

"You're back, Slate. Let me guess. Duty calls?"

"Shush. You know nothing of the plague come to us all... or the feast that is about to begin. Hmhmhmhm..."

If there ever was such a thing as a "dark Psi Warrior", Slate would be it, not because of attack type but based off personality alone. Slate immediately takes off on a Psi Disc to intercept a very misunderstood Janus.

In nearly every way, Slate is more skilled than Schwa at combat. This includes his flight speed, and as he senses Janus miles away and approaching fast, his mind locks on to him the way a fighter jet locks on to the bogey.

"45 Psi Sigma over 28 Nakoo. Target locked. Prepare yourself."

In the distance, Janus may be able to see a ball of white Ether forming, then...

"Slate Sidewinder." (echo effects)

Three projectiles are suddenly on their way to Janus, though easily detectable, especially in the darkness. They're shaped like missiles, glowing with rainbow-colored energy and streaming with silver Ether. They're very fast, about Janus's current speed, and like heat-seekers they track him until they hit him or are destroyed. One collision would cause a Plasma/Psychic explosion that could knock him right out of the sky.

One thing's for sure, it would do well to convince Slate of another solution.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"!! ...Can it be?"

Schwa bolts out of bed. True, it is pretty late at night...

"He's RETURNED!"

He meditates for a moment, and finds more shocking data.

"...And that warmonger of an ally Slate is misunderstanding him. Damn! I guess I gotta intervene..."

One wardrobe change into the signature attire later, one no-longer tired Schwa takes off from the same balcony. The annanymous Psi Warrior nearby just shrugs.

"How could Sensae be giving missions THIS time of night? Perplexing..."

Slate's pursuit of Janus is almost instantly thwarted... Janus takes a quick look to his side, notes the warrior approaching from a distance, and mutters something...

...And then disappears.

Several seconds later, he's at Crystal Psipalace's front door. Let Schwa deal with one of his little friends, Janus thought.

He could wait.

It took Shen a little longer to get started moving than it did for Evan. She had to stretch her soul an agonizing distance just to keep track of Evan and then her body started to move along the path that she'd created, she would catch up, soon.

Origin: "That was close..."

Origin stood at the edge of his tower, gazing off into the horizon. His wings were all up and he had almost taken off. He had been watching Slate and Janus, fearing what Janus might do. Everything around Janus was a maybe though, nothing around him was exact...

...at least through Origin's senses. Technology verified everything though as a distant watcher started and completed his scans. Dracoon stood in an advanced city, but right now it didn't matter where he was. Janus had come back as his old self, a little worse for wear, and he seemed to have some sort of trauma, but he was back.

Dracoon: "Set an alarm for tomorrow at seven P.M. COMP. I want to head out then."

Slate's triplet of missiles loop around and continue to follow Janus back to the Palace. They seem to be locked on to his soul (or soul by Psi Warrior standards, at least) similar to Alpha Psibeam.

Slate notices Janus vanish, immediately switches direction, and continues his plan to intercept. "I sense him back at the palace. That's it... Run, little mouse. The cat LIVES for the hunt."

But Slate notices something else in the distance on his way back. "His minion? Things intensify by the second. I'll kill it in seconds."

"Slate, it's ME! You're letting your Negavael instincts take over again, so for God's sake SNAP out of it!"

"...Blast it all..."

Slate whizzes right by Schwa, still not a very friendly jesture but better than the alternative. Schwa is puzzled.

"Where's he off to? And why is my Psi pointing in the other direction? ...."

Schwa sighs and proceeds to follow Slate back to the Palace. It isn't long before he begins to sense a forgotten energy signature once again, causing adrenaline to wake him up with a sudden zap...

OOC: You ignored my attack.

"Is it really him? It better be! Otherwise I would NEVER forgive Sensae!"

Schwa closes in on the Palace once again, utilizing telepathy... "JANUS! Is it you!? Answer me!!"

But before Schwa gets there, Slate's plasma missiles will, followed by Slate himself. It isn't long before the missiles are visible, and closing quickly in on Janus...

This could get hairy.

OOC: I didn't ignore your attack, geographically speaking Janus and Slate were several thousand miles away from CPP, and Janus just... you know, crossed those thousands of miles in an instant.

It only took a few minutes for the missiles to catch up to him. The long-lost warrior was fairly surprised at Slate's tracking skills, but ultimately did nothing as the missiles slammed into what looked like a purple wall of pure force. They exploded violently, taking a piece of the long bridgeway that stuck out from the flying temple out into the air and down towards the ground. Not one hundred feet away from the castle, however, the blocks from the bridge disintegrated into a puff of purple smoke.

Janus reached out with his thoughts...

Janus (thinking) : 'Schwa, it's good to talk to you again. It's been a long time for me. Your friends seem a bit hostile. I hope my welcoming party isn't going to be so bad, even with the news I bring... I'll tell you more if you meet me here at the Palace. It's best that you and all of the Psi Warriors present hear what I have to say.'

---------------

Evan leapt, making inhuman leaps and bounds, as he headed north from his ruins in Mexico. He had a lot of ground to cover in a very short period of time, and even Shen wasn't important enough for him to miss this moment.

They had gathered a lot of shards. Could they gather the rest in time?

There wasn't any time to ponder that. He could only hope he got to where he needed to go in time...

Shen followed as best she could, quietly, thinking it would be wrong for her to stop him.

After the hit, the balcony begins to regenerate itself in a jiffy. But Janus is due for another message, and this one ain't from Schwa...

"Ah, Janus, is it? Schwa already seems to know you. Schwa is a pathetic fool, though, as you probably know... Anyone ripped from the Spiritual Plane in such a manner without the right kind of protection would instantly become saturated with Evil chakra. You don't fool anyone, whelp of darkness. Prepare to die."

The voice sounds sinister itself, but it's definitely a Psi Warrior-- one that just silently teleported 12 feet behind Janus. He is dressed in the traditional white, loose clothes and black blindfold, but his skin is grey with soft scales and his ears stick out like a Hyrulian man's. He stands in an unusual Psi Warrior stance, hands flaring with dark-blue ether mixed with streaks of magenta ether (giving it a truly weird look), and preparing to launch an attack...

"Watch out for Slate, Janus. From my calculations he should learn his lesson pretty soon, but still. I'll be there very soon, but I have little energy and teleportation can't be done from such a distance anymore... Hang on."

Schwa contacts Sensae next, and after a small conversation, the main door opens wide to reveal a very, very old man that looks like a mix between a Psi Warrior and Gandalf.

"Janus. ...It is an honor to have you back. And it feels wonderful to be out of that high chamber I always reside in, too..."

It's Sensae, no doubt about it.

EDIT BY GREY: Check your spelling when it comes to supreme literary figures of awesomeness, Schwa.

Janus ran his hand through his hair, and stared dismissively at Slate. There was that strange, purplish energy around him again, and his tone intensified ever so slightly as he regarded the rogue, elfish warrior. He even mocked the antagonist a bit, taking on his manner of speech for a moment.

Janus: "I'm not here to see you, who knows nothing of the nature of the Aether in regards to creatures of my type."

He turned to Sensae, bowed his head in respect, but ultimately dismissed him as well.

"Unfortunately, sir Sensae, I am not here to see you, either. I need to see Schwa. I need to tell him something very important, it concerns his life, as well as the lives of many people he cares about. It may even concern your own. Please, let me see him."

Without delay, he strode past Sensae and into the main hall of Crystal Psipalace. There were grandoise statues of great Psi Warriors from ages long past lined up, which Janus glanced at, and then turned to Slate and Sensae expectantly.

"I will wait until he comes, but I ask that you gather your fellows in the meantime."

Origin just stood at the edge of his tower.

Origin: "Janus... why do you plan on doing...? Why are you so different this time?"

Origin took a step off his tower, standing in mid air, high above the clouds. He was ready to take off at any moment. He was concerned that Janus might have changed to much for the good of anyone.

Slate is completely silent in regards to Janus's comment. At about this time, Schwa manages to teleport to the palace. Several Psi Warriors are standing around nearby, consisting of all the Psi Warriors in the Palace; most of them were apparently on missions. (At this time of night, undead is ripe for the killing.)

Schwa approaches Janus, but something stops him in his tracks, and he grows tense.

"Janus? ...You're... emitting a very peculiar energy signature... Anyways, I'm here, so by all means tell me the news, but don't get too close until I adjust to that energy. Nothing personal."

Meanwhile, Sensae smiles, knowing that something pretty big is going to happen in the near future... starting with this very moment.

OOC: Schwa, this is going to come as sort of a shock to you. Just go with it.

Janus: "That's fine, Schwa... I understand, it's a request I can fulfill. But still, I came here because you need to know..."

At this point, some of the Psi Warriors in the crowd were starting to shift around uncomfortably... For some strange reason, they couldn't read his mind. It was as though that purple energy that had surrounded him earlier was blocking his thoughts and emotions from their ethereal powers!

Janus reached into Satchel, and pulled from it a very familiar-looking silver gem. A Chaos Emerald?

"In my struggle to survive in the Aether, I came to discover that there was someone in this world who was going to attempt to kill you very soon. Schwa, this person is going to try to destroy you and everything that you have ever cared about. He's a monster, a terrifying manifestation of darkness and the Void itself, a user of magics that many wizards in the world shudder at the thought of. He's a near-insurmountable warrior, and capable of regenerating himself even from the very last. Obliteration itself cannot stop him."

The Chaos Emerald began to glow as Janus closed his eyes and felt the world around him. Evan was close. He didn't have much time.

"Schwa, the worst part of it all is that this person, this horrible man of war and annihilation, this being that wants you dead so badly..."

Janus, too, began to glow with that eerie energy, and as it expanded out from him, all around him failed to react, as though time and Chaos energy itself were interacting in such a way as to give Janus a temporary taste of what it was like to be a god. Time itself began to slow down, and soon the entire world was stuck in a moment...

Except, of course, for four people.

"...Is me."

The energies around Janus exploded outward, knocking every single Psi Warrior that had crowded him or herself into the room to the floor unconscious, and having an unknown and random effect on Schwa and Sensae... The very walls of Crystal Psipalace began to crumble as Janus glowed purple, his eyes now fully opened and clearly emanating rage and hatred for his former friend. The Chaos Emerald disappeared as Janus held both hands outward towards Schwa, approaching him and grabbing him roughly. The moment Janus' hands touched Schwa, he released a slight of Chaos energy into Schwa's body that disrupted the Psi Warrior's most basic functions, effectively rendering him unable to move or react to Janus' powers...

The Psi Warriors around him remained unconscious. It was almost as though this entire sequence of events were being directed by someone in order to allow a certain other series of events to transpire.

What in the hell was going on? A few seconds later, Janus grinned evilly and had a decent idea of what Schwa was about to ask.

"Yes, Schwa, me. Go ahead. Before you die, I'll allow you to ask me why."

---------------

Evan felt the burst! It was so close, he could taste Janus' presence on his trembling tongue as he flew up, and up, and up to Crystal Psipalace's magnificence.

But when he approached the palace, he suddenly realized that it was no longer nearly as magnificent as it once was... Indeed, it seemed to be crumbling from the inside!

Was Janus going to destroy it to get what he wanted in there? Evan's Master Emerald shards glowed warmly within his coat, but it didn't glow with the dull light that it glowed with when a single emerald was nearby...

Rather, it glowed with the intensity of two.

Evan grunted in disbelief and frustration, and zoomed towards the castle, knowing that this was either going to be a close shave, or a complete failure. Even as time slowed down around him, Evan could feel no ill effects, knowing that who he was and what he could do was the only thing protecting him from this dark Janus' powers.

Evan: "I can't... let him... do this!"

The massive warrior rose higher into the sky...

---------------

Janus laughed in the manner of a man out of his mind as he held Schwa by the neck in the iron clutch of his left hand. He pressed the Psi Warrior against the rubble of a nearby statue, and waves of Chaos Energy continued to emanate from his body and ruin the superstructure of the castle. With unnatural arrogance and condescendance, Janus spoke his challenge again.

Janus: "Come now! I dare you! Ask!"

OOC: Ha! I knew it! FINALLY I defeated the almighty plot-twist! Although it's not very nice to decide whether attacks hit or not... Since it's for plot, sure, but it's still not very nice. (Mostly referring to the Palace, not so much the NPC Psi Warriors.) Question: Will Yiusi play a part in this story at any time?

Schwa has no chance against this power. Janus's "attack" nearly paralyzes him-- a few years ago he would've been dead in an instant. Strangely, though, something inside Schwa was sure this was going to happen.

Sensae is completely unaffected by Janus's powers, but his body flares with diamond-white ether in response. He still smiles.

"Sensae, HELP!"

"This is not my battle, Schwa. It is you who has known Janus for years, not I."

"Wh-what!?"

"I would never put you in a position you couldn't overcome."

In shock, Schwa stands up as best he can, looks Dark Janus squarely in the eye, and...

"Alright, friend. I ask you... Why?"

No matter what, Schwa will never let go of the friendship he's had with Janus all these years. It is his destiny to obliterate the forces of Evil, and though it seems impossible in a moment like now, at this moment, Schwa vows to do whatever it takes to free his former friend's heart of this power.

Meanwhile, Sensae's secretly preparing something. It will be very, very powerful-- but it will have nothing whatsoever to do with Dark Janus.

(ooc: Just let me know if you don't want me here, eh?)

Far away from this scene of carnage, there is a much more peaceful building. Nearly on the opposite side of the world, and underground as far as the Psipalace is high in the air. It's calm, cool, and mostly undisturbed by the outside world. Its four stone walls seem to exude stability and strength. On the inside, the space is bright, warm, and comforting. Bookshelves line the walls, filled with volumes of knowledge and tomes of arcane wisdom. From the ceiling hangs a silver chandelier, covered in symbols of power, whose candles glow with a pale blue light. There is a simple woven mat on the floor, upon which a man was sleeping until just recently. Now he is standing, in his usual black robes, his graying black hair seeming almost iridescent in the eerie light. Behind his omnichromatic spectacles, his eyes shimmer with determination and vigor.

Chaos energy at the Psipalace. And there's Schwa(!), with his odd mix of energy signatures, plus a bit more. What in the hell is going on?

Adric's curiosity gets the better of him. He pulls a green glowing rod about the size of a pencil from one of his many pockets, and holds it up to the air. He can feel a rush of magic around him, and then he has arrived at the Psipalace, just in time to hear Schwa call his attacker a friend. Good thing, too, or Adric might have done something he'd regret later. As for now, he's using some stored energy he'd prepared earlier to shield himself from the waves of chaotic power as he waits to hear what in the hell is going on.

After all, Schwa is his friend.

Origin sets off from his tower, traveling through the world at an incredible speed, but he'd already masked his appearence from Janus, Schwa, and everything on the planet except for Schwa's Sensae.

Origin: "You can take care of this then?"

Origin was standing right in front of Sensae, but no one around would even be able to tell that he was there.

Origin: "If you can't, tell me."

With that, Origin was back at his tower.

Shen: "Evan, what do you think you can do right now?"

Shen felt that she was about to lose the Evan she knew. He was about to change.

Shen: "You're just rushing and you don't even know what's fully going on."

Star practically jumped at Janus' sudden out burst. Star wasn't sure if he was supposed to try and stop Janus though. He had a lot of respect for Schwa and Janus, but if Schwa couldn't take care of things, what could Star accomplish?

COMP: "Alert! Janus' energy signature has change, retargeting."

Dracoon didn't become alert or even change at all. He just stayed in his sleep mode, although he heard fully what COMP had said.
