"Holy--! That's a lotta swords! ...Where have I heard that phrase before? Something tells me it was on a computer document explaining about a game... FAQ something-or-other? Gah, that's gonna keep me up ALL night..."

Schwa's thoughts are instantaneous as the attack closes in, Schwa's platform returns, and he drops to the ground. Schwa coats himself with ether, and though he takes several hits, the total damage is practically nonexistant since the attacks were of low damage in the first place.

"I'm curious as to why that didn't feel as powerful as it should have... WAIT a second." It dawns on him. He looks around, and sees himself completely surrounded in Krishens. Then they give him that cryptic message of theirs...

Even more interesting, though, is Schwa's response. He actually begins heartily, telepathically laughing.

"Well! At least we're both having fun! Loopholes are cool! ...But seriously, WHERE have I heard that phrase before? You gotta tell me after the battle, man. As for now, I ain't done, so keep the heat on..."

Schwa's not panicked by the 7 opponents, as he's been in situations like this before. This, in turn, reminds him that Krishen's illusions aren't nearly as bad as some of the more advanced Necromancers' illusion magic he's had to go against in his life. It can be said by now that that's what gives Schwa his motivation and vigor in this battle.

Schwa's platform hovers up, and delivers a half-strength thunderbolt to all 7 Krishens at the same time, perfect unison. If things go how they should, this attack won't be useful for it's damage as it will be for unmasking the real target.

The swords that do not make contact with Schwa or his shield curve in their flight and head upwards. Soon the blades are lost to sight.

Krishen, however...

Hahaha. You'd at least think he would have learned his lesson...
Ah well. Can't all be the wisest.

The seven Krishens simply stand laughing while they are hit with the thunderbolts. Each one reveals six more copies as they are knocked a bit farther away. Forty-nine red-robed warrior-wizards now stand in a circle around Schwa. As one, they pull longbows out of nowhere. Each readies a single arrow, and points his weapon at Schwa.

"You're probably wondering whose book we're doing it by, haha. Well, you have a decent idea now. Give us a show, Schwa. Take your - haha - Best shot."

"I DO?? ...Well, that's news to me. But I'm having fun. I'm completely befuddled, but I'm having fun. Sometimes that's the hidden meaning behind a spar."

Nevertheless, Schwa's about to end this madness right here and now.
"Soul Search!" (echo effects)

This move has been hyped up since Schwa's last usage of this Tech. The mana flow in the air becomes warped and humid with Psi energy, allowing Schwa to see the REAL Krishen as a lightbulb and the fakes as nothing but shadows. At the same time, the mana abnormality in the air has the new effect of disrupting anything that's not real, instantly unveiling the invisible, dispatching holograms, rooting out magical illusions and even making the act of telling a lie very, very hard. (The latter would definitely be useful to Schwa in the future should he decide to interrogate a demon before killing it.)

Schwa can keep this move up for a very long time, but for somewhat obvious reasons he probably wouldn't. Krishen doesn't necessarily know that.

Schwa looks around at his altered surroundings, pinpointing the target if he can...

"{sigh}... Ah well. If you don't get it yet... We'll need some desperate measures."

For you see, though the additional Krishens may technically be illusions, to the universe and all its inhabitants, they are very, very real. He mentioned that his magic worked by changing the way the world works... in this case, he's stretched spacetime a bit to fit his own visions into the plane. However, his magic doesn't control these 'copies' like puppets. Instead, each time he calls forth a form from his will, Krishen gives up a bit of his soul to the new creation. Thus the army of Krishens works more as a group of connected friends than a brigade of synchronized robots.

This means that because there is no one real Krishen, Schwa won't be able to find him with Soul Search. Each one of the Krishens lights up (incidentally, so does the brick wall from earlier and each of the longbows), because they're all the real Krishen.

However, there are disadvantages to this as well. Each one of these partial souls is far more vulnerable to attack and less capable of controlling its body than the full soul. So while each one of them is real, the price paid is in strength, and each individual body can doubtless be dispatched with ease. Of course, then the souls could find another Krishen-form to join with, making that one stronger. There's definitely a way to win, though, even when it looks like there isn't.

However.

The Soul Search was not entirely a waste. A man wearing a hooded violet cloak covered in familiar symbols is revealed to be sitting on the air, high above the battle, his invisibility spell having been disrupted. He gives a short laugh before disappearing in a puff of green and blue smoke.

And when this happens, the forty-nine warriors release their grip on forty-nine bows, letting forty-nine white arrows fly through the air at Schwa. As this happens, the charged energy from before is lost, and each Krishen's robes change back into white.

"...Desperate measures that will have to wait."

"Not workin'? ...HOOO-LIE!!"

Schwa's heart jumps into his throat.

"...THAT was Corona."

Following his discovery comes the 50 arrows, minus an arrow of course (although I, as a writer, may have actually prefered 50 'cause of it's evenness ). He notices that they're glowing white, giving him ONE possibility.

"Psi Mirror!" (echo effects)

Ether coats the air around Schwa, forming into four thin sheets and hardening into shining plates coated in white Ether. The four mirrors surround Schwa and instantly begin spinning wildly around him. The tricky part: Should the arrows be made of energy or mana, they will ALL be deflected in a jiffy in random directions (minus maybe a few that'll hit Schwa). If they're real, genuine arrows, they'll shatter the mirrors in a few hits and MANY of them will hit Schwa. (I'm not sure of the attack strength of the arrows, though.) If they're both physical AND mana-based, beams of energy will be sent in all directions but Schwa will still take many hits.

Either way, Schwa definitely has a new distraction to worry about-- the hooded figure. Schwa does NOT like being watched.

The arrows strike the mirrors, and are reflected. However, as Schwa may or may not have guessed by this point, each of the arrows splits into seven right before bouncing off the mirrors. Due to a peculiar aspect of the time manipulation involved in this particular manifestation of Krishen's multiplier spell, they split again soon after being reflected.

And because the reader is probably not willing to do the math in his or her head, that comes to 2,401 white glowing arrow shards being fired randomly across the landscape. None of them carry shards of Krishen's soul, so he's unable to direct their flight, and many of them come blazing at his copies. They tear right through the weak artificial flesh, and the forms are still recovering from the energy loss, so many of them disintegrate and float away as dust in the wind. If Schwa is still looking with the Soul Search, he'll probably notice that as copies are destroyed, the nearby forms become stronger. Upon another glance, it's obvious that the number of Krishens has significantly decreased. Only twenty-five of him remain.

"Good, good... Now, attack me! And none of this melee attack stuff you tried before, see? I want to see your real power. If that's not too much to ask."

The remaining Krishens finish getting their breath back. They're standing almost motionless, waiting for Schwa's next move.

Schwa had already turned off Soul Search to conserve strength and mana, but he does sense a particle manipulation of Soul energy present as his reflected attacks backfire on his foe(s)...

"I get it. Each of the copies had around 2% of it's original power 'cause they were ALL the real one. Now there's 25 left, so that would go up to about 4%. Wha'doIdo now, though?"

Schwa keeps the mirrors around him, just for safety...

"Soon. I promise you that... Soon. But it'll be a few moments before I can safely execute what you're looking to see. And I'm not talking about a measly two-turn charge, either!"

Interestingly, as soon as he finishes that message, the Thunder Glider disintegrates at Schwa's will as he lands, kneels, coats himself in red ether (plus his mirrors that rotate around him) and begins a two-turn charge.

But he WAS telling the truth. He just thinks it's about time HE starts playing some mind-games, that's all.

"Haha, don't worry. We're content to wait. Haha."

However, waiting seems to be a secondary consideration. Each of the Krishens begins to chant, in an odd language that seems to be more concerned with volume than syllables.

Each one's open hands become enshrouded in energy. His left shines with the intensity of the Sun, with powerful white magic, and his right becomes an abyss for light, darknening the air around it with its destructive power. A single lance of light shoots into each darkness, and a curve of darkness into each light. Soon there is a circle among their hands that is constantly fought over by the two forces.

Each Krishen brings his hands together. A multitude of white and black lightnings fire themselves high into the air, and the sky suddenly becomes enormously cloudy, the clouds forming a huge spiral reminiscent of the matter pouring into a black hole, the black hole centered directly above Schwa's head.

Sound familiar?

The trick, you see, is that when a ritual spell is cast, the total energy is greater than the sum of the input of the components. This additional power is exponentially related to the number of casters, and stems from the strength of the cooperation and synchronization between the casters. A complete synch results in a base of approximately 2.30, known as Qi. Qi to the Nth power. With 25 casters, roughly 11 million times Krishen's power as a single man can be accessed.

However, putting this mana together takes time. Krishen is no Adric. Such theoretical figures would be obtainable only after years of channelling a single spell, due to the fundamental limitations of a mortal body. In addition, it would take far more casters to simply control the mana and stop it from exploding spontaneously, as things tend to do when you pack them really really close together. So it's unlikely Krishen is going all-out on this one. So far, he's only fed about 5 times the power of the 'illusionary' storm spell into this one, but it's rising rapidly.

"See? Desperate measures. Haha."

OOC: Whooah, Arcane Physics lessons make my head hurt! ...God you're so cool, though. ^.^

"You know what? I'm gonna probably risk it all and continue my double-charge. Something tells me I actually know what I'm doing for once."

Schwa continues charging energy, and by now his aura of red ether is massive-- if Krishen knows anything about Schwa 101, this is undoubtedly preperation for Alpha Gamma Omega. But the question: WILL it work against this peculiar opponent in his current state... or will Schwa's troubles multiply once again? By now it's no longer the illusion magic itself that gets to Schwa... it's the unpredictableness of that magic. Everything he's doing is as if he's reinventing Arcane Physics itself! ...Not that Schwa knows a great deal on Arcane Physics in the first place, but hey...

"Hey! I'll WIN as long as I do my best! It'll be a PERSONAL victory! Haha, no getting around THAT, is there, my friendly foe?"

(ooc: Why, thank you, I agree, I AM so cool!)

"Hahahahaha... Of course there's no getting around this, Schwa! Do you think this much power will simply... vanish? Hahahahahahaha..."

On the word 'vanish,' the energy inside the spiral jumps from 5x to 20x. The 'black hole,' though still feeding on the clouds and the energy from Krishen, seems to be getting smaller.

More dense.

And now, it's getting bigger again. And the density hasn't changed.

Schwa finishes his charge. "Okay, but like I said, this is only a warmup! Alpha Gamma Omega!!" (epic blast)

By now my opponent's author should be familiar with how this attack works; two Defense-lowering beams, two homing, paralysis wisps, and a 56' diameter Holy/Psychic blast in that order. It is probably one of the most potentially powerful attacks on Acmlm's, at the LEAST. But against 25 targets, it's gotta be stretched a little to get it to work...

Schwa sweeps his red beams against the whole crowd in a double-arc, like searchlights, hopefully hitting them all. The two wisps come out and head right up into the Black Hole, attempting to delay the proceedure of the attack by 1 turn. Then Schwa fires the Omega blast right down the middle, to hit the highest amount of targets possible. Of course, the damage is UNBELIEVABLE if it hits (can cut the HP of most good fighters below the 50% mark), and the Defense-reducing beams make this even more dangerous. Against 25 targets, though? Schwa always wondered if he could pull something like this off.

"I hope that worked... What do I do next, though?"

Something CLICKS... He checks his Unique Mana Reserves, and finds them ready. This gives him shivers and an adrenaline rush. "Hoo HOO, I got it! Nothing can stop me now-- Time for a Prince Tech! Thank you, Assets!"

(ooc: Oh, I thought you gave me more credit than that. Why else do you think Krishen began this eight-turn technique right after Schwa's Unique Mana hit 4? Narrative timing strikes again...)

Schwa's red beams work as intended. All of the Krishens but one recieve the defensive penalty.

However, the paralysis wisps simply vanish into the core of magic. It's quite possible that the mana contained inside them was absorbed, increasing its power by a small amount.

And then... The "it's dangerous to go alone" swords fall back down. Each and every one of them collides with the black hole, and with each strike the black hole becomes a bit more blue and quite a lot stronger. The barrage comes and is over quickly, but the power of the core jumps once again. Saving the reader some nasty math, this manifestation of force is now exactly 99 times as strong as Krishen in his solitary form.

...Which he is soon forced into. The 24 copies who were affected by the defense beams leap into the path of the Omega, surrounded by quickly-summoned shields of mana. This maneuver is also precisely calculated- The blast has the power to destroy all of the copy-Krishens, with none left over.

The one who remains recieves the soul energy of those destroyed at the exact moment he finishes his jump into the center of the mana core. There is a sudden explosion of sound and light, capable of no real damage, as Krishen absorbs the entire black hole into his own body. He remains there, floating in the air and looking down at Schwa. He knows that the time is here.

Yes. Krishen has just multiplied his own power a hundred times.

"Haha! This feels GREAT! How about you, Schwa? How do you... feel? I see that you're ready to show me your real power. By all means, do so!"

As Krishen powers up, Schwa just stares, trying to sense and calculate just how much energy this ability was worth...

He figures it out... well, as much as could be figured out by someone like him, anyway... combined with Krishen's comment, and what does he do?

"That... totally... can't be good... SENSAE, HELP MEEEEE!!"

Sensae's voice can actually be heard by Krishen as well. "You called?"

"Ah, Sensae... I wanted to go home and see you 'cause I've been here for 3 weeks with no Psi Energy, then you give me THIS... Don't you love me?"

"Love is subjective. What do you believe, Schwa?"

"I believe I have had enough of this."

"What will you do?"

"I'm gonna stand here and take the next hit. He wants power? I'll show him power... WILLpower. After an 8-turn charge, any attack could deliver a 1-hit KO... but not on me. I'll play the Ultimate Defense."

He turns to Krishen. "Ya hear that, you octopus? C'mon! Let's see this power boost of yours! I doubt it's even worth a SINGLE charge!"

Schwa throws his head back and laughs maniacly. Maybe he's finally had enough?

(ooc: Now, now... At least it's not Unity Reaver.)

"Oh, I see. You want to play the 'No, YOU go first!' game.

I'm sorry, that's a set of rules I don't follow. You'll find that there are many rules I am not required to follow in this state of strength.

Let's begin with something you never thought you'd see again..."

To warp reality, one must first have a blueprint in mind. A desired effect. The blueprint for a spell does not have to come from within. Sometimes, even those untrained in a form of magic will memorize a spell upon seeing it cast. Often they do not even know that they know the spell, for it is in a language they are unable to comprehend.

One also has to understand how the current situation functions and how the desired effect will function. From there, a suitably skilled caster can plan a chain of modifications that will gradually create the desired effect. The important thing to know is that each instant affords the caster only the most modest of changes to reality... Every type of ability, be it magic, or something... else... must be built from these fundamental instintaneous alterations to the tapestry of existence.

But magic, like life, occasionally seems to be more than just a careful alignment of components. Every so often a spell will somehow achieve a mind of its own. In these cases, what has truly happened is that the series of modifications, if compressed into a single instant, would be the framework of a soul, not a spell. Indeed, with cautious research into these similarities, a powerful mage might create a spell specifically designed to become a soul...

But a soul is more than just a metaphysical structure. It has to come from somewhere, and mortals simply are not meant to be the source.

Someone, long ago, poured his soul into such a spell...

and it never came back.

Krishen searches through Schwa's past. Time is simply a book, constantly being written. It takes only the right angle to open the book and gaze upon its contents. For most of history, mortals have tried to pull at the book's edges and binding to learn its secrets, and therefore have only glimpsed an occasional vision. Krishen knows better.

He pages through the spells that Schwa has witnessed. Hmm... Take THAT one, and THAT one, and maybe a bit of THAT other one, and we'll see what we get... Oh my, these are HIS spells, aren't they...

Krishen holds one hand outstretched towards Schwa. A ball of lightning forms in it, though it seems oddly different from how lightning should be.

"Winter Teravolt Blazer!"

The ball of lightning fires itself at Schwa. In transit, it splits into millions of shards, which take the appearance of bits of wood. Each one carries a medium-strength electrical charge, but together they could become a problem.

As soon as each shard impacts a physical object other than Schwa, it explodes into a gigantic (56', woot) sphere of snow. Each one of these is also only mildly damaging, but each area where more than three overlap is encased in supercooled ice.

All that heat has to go somewhere. Indeed, it is merely moved, to a globe of lasers surrounding Schwa. Each one of these then fires itself at Schwa, one at a time.

The grand total of attacks here numbers in the tens of millions, each one dealing damage approximately equal to half of an Alpha Psibeam. Schwa had better have the ultimate defense...

"Oh, and why the hell did you call me an octopus?"

OOC: Sorry for the wait. Let's see if I can get this right... >.<

"Here comes Hell."

Schwa's always had a gift for reading Energy Signatures. The Signature displayed in this impossible Tech is twisted, warped, more defying of Spiritual Physics than anything ever known by any Psi Warrior. But it is not Evil in nature, making it even worse...

Schwa's life flashes before his eyes as he reads the Signature, for some reason. Krishen fires. Schwa tenses.

"Ultimate Defense! (And it BETTER work!) PlasmaTech Barrier 2!" (echo effects)

Schwa is suddenly surrounded by hundreds of blue ribbons of solidified Ether, which close in on him and bind his form into the shape of a ball-sized ether coccoon. The coccoon hovers in the air, and in a few seconds it begins glowing rainbow colors. Schwa poured some of his Unique Mana and a LOT of his regular Mana into this Tech to bolster it and allow it to handle physics-defying attacks with ease, at a cost: -4 on the UMana reserves and no Techs for 2 turns after this one.

The attacks strike over and over again, and each hit on the coccoon makes it glow brighter. The first phase of the attack causes it to crackle wildly with electricity, then when the ice coats it it is practically EXPLODING with ether and electricity. Then the heat beams strike, melting the ice into water which hypes the electricity even more. The clashing forces are all drawn into the coccoon walls and absorbed into SIX turns of charged energy.

But, once again, at a cost.

The coccoon walls of PlasmaTech Barrier, bolstered or not, A) cannot absorb 100% of the damage, just most of it, so Schwa is still damaged by a massive amount, and B) the Barrier isn't meant to contain such an unbelievable amount of stored energy. It burns to the touch, encasing Schwa in essentially a locked oven. Will 6 turns be worth this? Furthermore, will Schwa survive his own shield long enough to be able to attack Krishen with the 6-charge attack?

One other thing. This charged energy is... peculiar, and never before contained by an absorbing barrier-- peculiar, because of just how the elemental attack was formed by Schwa's foe. When, or if, Schwa gets out of his solar-oven next turn, it'll be a challenge to try and harness this power until he can use his Techs again.

But Schwa was not KO'd. That, right there, is saying a lot.

(not...going...to...be...three...weeks...)

Krishen slowly lowers himself to the ground. There's no limit to how much power can be in too small a space, but there is a general trend towards more difficult to contain as the total power rises. However, there are several valleys in this relation, amounts of energy that are far too easy to hold back, holes in the graph that make no sense and should not exist. Until recently, Krishen was occupying one of them. Despite having released energy, he has made it far more difficult to hold control of what remains.

But there's more than one valley.

As Krishen touches down lightly on the grassy ground, he fires five multicolored spheres of energy into a slow, orbit around him. Each sphere is about a foot in diameter, orbiting five feet from Krishen, and, you guessed it, contains just enough power to require only a token containment force. This also leaves Krishen with enough to put him in his own rift.

"I haven't thanked you properly yet. This has been an enlightening experience so far. So thank you, Schwa, for being such an enthusiastic student."

OOC: TWO WEEKS. Hah. ...'Bout time The Schwa returns home.

Schwa breaks out of his coccoon in an explosion. Energy flies in all directions, but quickly fizzles out before any of it can reach Krishen. Schwa is revealed.

His sight would be disheartening for any close friend of his to behold.

His skin is maroon-colored and fading into a lava-red every few seconds, he's coated in green and purple fire which turns the air around him molten hot, and the fire is in turn coated in rainbow-colored ether which is shooting dangerously out of control, and Schwa's white robe-clothes are glowing hot-white. Clearly his Psi Warrior attire was meant to contain his signature etheral energy, but not THIS kind of force he now carries.

But why? WHY? ...It started around a week ago when Schwa mysteriously lost 86% of his Psi powers due to a drug in the mana in the air. He took out the demented Druid with a sword, just like old times, and in three days he had his powers back. It felt weird to have them back after, what, 10 days...

...Now he's got more power in him than most Holy Gods. And we're not talking about the Living Assets here. This is DANGEROUS. It could KILL him. And he knows it.

Schwa's form is bent over with a palm on the ground, gasping for air. He's being tortured. ...But... how might this stored energy affect his combat skills?

"K-K-Krish-sh-shen-n-- n-n-need help-p-p-- I-I-Inf-f-flict-t-t-t d-damage-ge-ge-- F-f-f-free m-me--" The telepathic message is fragmented and mentally painful to listen to. It's his one desperate attempt to open a window of oppritunity to survive this overdose of otherworldly mana.

Student? Maybe. But now the student is in need of a different kind of teacher.

5 turns to go.

OOC: Plot twist, anyone? Hey, it's no Schwa vs. Corona, but considering I haven't roleplayed in over 2 weeks, I'm guessing this is pretty damn good.

(I doubt that Krishen's power output rivals that of the Gods... But then, knowing Corona... /shrug)

...Damn. My old friend must have overestimated Schwa's knowledge of his own limits...
His energy is fluctuating rapidly. To think that he would actually try to contain the power as I did, knowing that he lacks the training...
Well, I told him there were strings attached. Still, it hurts to have to lead him out. It will take longer to convince him of his own power,
and his pride will be shot. *sigh*...
Might as well salvage the situation...

Krishen instantly dismisses his spheres, then calmly, but firmly, addresses Schwa.

"If anyone can free you, it's you. You've known from the beginning that everything here is fake. I even had to ask Corona to come over here, so that you wouldn't think I was him in disguise. You will only die if you believe you will die. Sadly, I'm not allowed to interfere directly. So please, believe you can hear me."

As Krishen speaks, his appearance changes, slowly and subtly at first, gradually accelerating. His skin lightens, and straight, gray-white hair grows on his bald head, as his body shrinks slightly and he loses an inch from his height. He walks towards Schwa...

The long grass fades into rock and sand, the sparse trees change to natural statues. A nearby forest evaporates, leaving behind nothing to distinguish it from another patch of ground on this plateau... plateau? No, now this is a canyon, as the land shifts silently to accomodate the old reality. And it is the old reality that now flows back into the world.

The one thing that is left unchanged is Schwa...

"Oh, yes, I could free you. I will not free you, because Sensae does not give his students all the answers, because Adric does not rip wholes in the universe, because the world is not overrun by demons from the darkest pits and most sinister hells you can imagine. Now. Free yourself."

Krishen now stands within a few feet of Schwa. And his eyes tell a fourth reason, should Schwa care to look...

Because freedom given from outside is no freedom at all...

Sadly, common sense fails to work against Schwa.

As Krishen approaches and speaks his final reason, Schwa explodes with light of all colors in existance (and many colors that don't even exist). Then, from out of the light blast, he makes a devestating assult against Krishen, the reason of which is an enigma.

"Obmoc Layor Deniartsernu." (warped echo) The voice is twisted and warped, as if it came from a dying soul, which is impossible.

Schwa launches towards Krishen from out of the light, palm outstretched, coated in dark-purple ether, in an attempt to slam into his head. If it connects, Schwa will suddenly be striking the same spot at 758 times a second for 2 seconds, each at average Attack Power, somehow.

Krishen may easily have a way to prevent this, knowing him. But why would Schwa attack?

That may be answered when Schwa "speaks" again, after appearing behind Krishen after attacking.

"Augh! I'll neutralize this power in a few moments, just wait it out... It's convincing my body to believe the same thing as my soul that's the tough part."

"K-K-Krish-sh-shen-- is-is-is-- en-n-nem-m-my-my--"

Two seperate voices. Interesting.

4 turns to go.

As Schwa leaps, Krishen does not move. It simply becomes fact that he had always been a few feet to the left of the place Schwa attacks. The fact that this was not true until an instant ago has no relevance to reality.

"If it is hard, then believe it is not hard. But please, do not force your will upon the universe.

Asking nicely works quite a bit better, I've found."

"You're insane."
"I know."
"Don't come crying to me when the hero dies."
"I kept you from meddling. That'll give me some piece of mind."
"Hah. I'll make sure to commission a medal."

Krishen holds out his right hand, and suddenly it had always contained a silver longsword. It glows blue slightly as he holds it horizontally, and though he doesn't look ready for Schwa's next move, it's a good bet that says he will always have been ready by the time it happens.
