Wow. I didn't notice that there was a DDR thread until just now. Weird.

So I'm really into Stepmania, but I hate most of the songs in the packages on the SMO site. I dunno, somehow it feels like there's not enough trance techno and too much... random crap for a dancing game. So I end up making my own stepfiles, usually of videogame music. I've downloaded the few other vg songs I was able to find on the net, and I get the general impression that my steps suck completely by comparison. Notable examples of quality I feel I'll never reach are... heh, I forget the author, but there's this FFX Yu Yevon Battle stepfile that completely kicks ass. I've downloaded a lot of things that turned out to be utter crap, too, and they gave me these intense urges to inflict physical pain on their creators.

So, basically, should I even bother sharing my work?

Oh, and I've heard every explanation for the lack of DDRMM in stores, from "they weren't expecting it to be popular" (wtf?) to "aliens are abducting the shipments" (lay off the drugs).

I do believe that I might get into PIU. There's not a machine near here but there's a machine at the mall in Harrisonburg Virginia and I visit my girlfriend up there ever so often, so I might actually get a few games up there. Anyone here got PIU Exceed? Is it any good?

There's an Exceed machine at my local arcade. It makes no money at all for a damn good reason.

I absolutely hate Pump, I'm not a fan of how you have to move your body around to get the beats right, and I think it's more for flash than it is for actual speed. With DDR, you've got to be really fast, and while you have to be fast in Pump, the addition of a fifth button and the fact that the pad is much larger means that overall, songs will be a lot slower in order to compensate for people who want to play but can't step on the pads without jumping from sensor to sensor. With Pump, most of the stuff you learn from DDR makes no fucking sense, and I much prefer the song selection in DDR anyway.

So yeah, Pump sucks. DDR and ITG win.

And Spel, congratulations! You prove to the world how much further I have to go.

That was me, bright boy. ...and I put in Seymour Battle to BMS the other day. Not as hard, but just as long.

SMO's simfile site is probably BMS (http://www.bemanistyle.com). I think you have that mixed up. More than likely, 80% of the files on that site are pure crap just for the sheer fact that a lot of the authors on that site are novices/couldn't sync a file if their life depended on it. Rarely do I find a file that I would personally rate 7 or above anymore in terms of quality.

If you want to submit your work there, feel free; I find it's a lot better of an environment than FlashFlashRevolution's just for the sheer fact that a lot of morons seem to be around that site than BMS (though, BMS has it's share of idiocy every so often itself). If you're looking for comments, I doubt you're going to get much in terms of contructive wherever you go since people are usually there to DL and that's it...but I find that I get one every so often so...it all works out. If you want to have an idea just how much you suck/are good, post one in this thread like I usually do (like BINARY if you haven't seen the last one)...

ANYWAYS...that's the long and the short of it. Now to wonder if I'm going to make one this week or blow it off because of finals.

I knew that, I was just attempting to flatter you. I need an animated eye-rolling smiley.

You're lying to me. The Seymour song is indeed harder than Yu Yevon, and with fewer feet. My problem is that someone else stepped the same music file, and it's one of my oft-played songs, so I try to go along with a completely different instrument selection, resulting in complete and total failure. With a big gray-blue gradient. Sigh.

So I registered at BMS (Why did I want to abbreviate it as BS?) and submitted the file I like the most that I've made... Shield your eyes from the crappy MS-Paint'ed banner:

Incidentally, I had to get my own screencap for that. No Google for me.

Now to hope fervently against pure crap... *concentrate*...

Yea but...I like being an ass.

Anyways, I'm getting it now...do yourself a favor though, next time you're playing ZSNES and want to rip the sprites...disable all layers but the sprite layer by pressing 1, 2, 3, and 4 (default). You'll get a nice looking rip.

Also, if you want the FF font, look for Runic MT Condensed.

I'll get to the sim in a bit when I get it DL'd and SM up.

EDIT: Oh wow...yea you definitely are new to this. Now you will be subject to my critique session which are usually long-winded and bullshit-laden.

I'll put it nicely; that file is not going to get highly rated on that site and here's why: The sync is HORRIBLE. Did you just pick a random BPM and try to sim to it? I'll give some nice words of advice here...If you're using ALL TYPES OF NOTES (i.e. 12th, 16th, 24th, 32nd, 48th, and omg 64ths) that's a GOOD SIGN your sync is off. My guess is you just completely guessed it so here's what you do. First, you get MixMeister BPM Analyzer. You get that, you get the file (in WAVE or MP3 format), you get the BPM from there, you use it. That's the biggest concern in ANY and ALL simfile that you make. If you have no sync, your file's as good as crap. That is definitely your biggest problem throughout this file. It almost pained me looking at it on Oni from using the clapper (press F4 in Stepmania's Editor to have it on) and see how far off it was. This MUST BE precise. You can't be off a lot or it makes for shoddy steps.

Now, that was probably a good 80% of the problem with your file right there. You fix that much and redo the file, maybe take into consideration the graphic updates I was mentioning and then you may have a semi-decent file on your hands. It seemed like you generally had a semi-decent idea for step flow...but the way the BPM and sync handled threw all of that into oblivion.

That's practically it. I doubt you're going to get much nicer comments than 'sux' or 'lolwtf?!' from BMS though. Probably should've posted it on an outside serv first before you went to the bitch crew because they're more likely to DL something with 'Final Fantasy' in its name than anything else.

Just as long as you fix it, it's all fine by me. That's not a bad song to start out with, but you need to know the right sync and BPM before you do anything.

Okay, the DDR OSC sect is starting now. I seem to be in the first bracket now. It's avail for DL on BMS for everyone to get an idea of the competition I'm up against. Seems there's already public review going in my favor, from the look of things, so that might be a good thing to see where I rank after all of this is said and done.

Well, cheer for me.

I'm beginning to regret not browsing that board more frequently I just logged in to download that OSC (I feel rather silly using that acronym when I don't know what it stands for ), but I saw this thread first. Add to that the fact that I forgot to bring my PSP today, and the timing couldn't be better Oh well, I can download them today, but I'll just have to wait until tomorrow to take them home.

I'd post what results I can remember, but there are only two of them, compared to 15 screenshots, so I'll just wait until tomorrow for that as well.

Now, not to call attention to myself or anything, but given that the current discussion has turned to simfile creation, I'll take this chance to say that yes, I'm still working on Romancing SaGa, and I also started on another song. I won't say which right now, but so far, I've got the banner almost finished, the background is done, and I've got about 10 arrows placed so far I started with Edit as the difficulty, as I want to make it as hard as possible (without going overboard, of course) at first, then work down to Heavy or so.

Until tomorrow (provided I don't forget my PSP again), that's it for now.

Drop Out ~Death Mix~
It's off-sync by 0.5 seconds!
There are some noobs that go "Oh! I should make the steps a little off to make the song Uber with two dots over the U hard." I'm a total sync Nazi, I'm working on a songfile "Hall of the Mountain King." That is the song that gradually speeds up throughout the whole song, so that's a nice challenge.
Someone already made this, but an Apocolyptica version which totally kicks @$$! (14-footer on Challenge )

Oh you should've seen what someone did with HVAM on BMS. They made the file go from 49 to...like...700+BPM. They made it go 375% the standard speed of the steps for some stupid reason gradually...and they weren't even on sync. I about died laughing on the spot.

I have a feeling I'm going to be up there on the OSC list but...I have a feeling I'm in trouble for placing anywhere close to the top 3.

Well it's a shot of 1 in 28. I don't have popular song choice on my side...well...past this forum and Bouche being a musical genius. So yea, I might kinda take a dive there but the steps are ALMOST perfectly solid. I could still say a few things wrong with them but they're really not that bad off.

So, if all else fails, I have a hundred other files with people telling me 'rox' anyways.

It's 50% public review and 50% judges review. Quite honestly, that feels a bit odd but oh well...I don't make the rules there.

After the bracket winners are chosen for each (there was KB and ITG) they decide the top ones for each.

Well, I might as well get the screenshots out of the way to begin with, as there's a whopping 18 of them

:: 2000000000; Challenge, C400
:: Another World; Heavy, C400
:: G2 (Keyboard Megapack Version); Heavy, C400
:: Happy Happy Dance; Heavy, C400
:: Karma; Heavy, C400
:: Love Love Shine Survovir MAX; Edit, C400
:: MoonlightX; Edit, C400
:: Nemesis; Heavy, C400
:: Nuon; Challenge, C400
:: PARANOiA (Bounce Connected Mix) (Hiryuu's Version); Challenge, C400
:: Rainbow Flyer; Challenge, C400
:: RPG Battle; Heavy, C400
:: Samurai Zero; Heavy, C400

:: The Club is Open; Heavy, C400
:: The Retarted Song; Heavy, C400
:: The System is Down; Heavy, C400
:: Tokai; Heavy, C400

The last two were pretty easy (a 7 and 8 respectively, if I remember right), so take that for what you will

I was hoping to be able to take home some new simfiles tonight, but as of right now, I've 7.31MB of free space on my memory stick, so I think that'll have to wait until tomorrow

Anyways, I'll end this here now, as I'd rather not take the chance of it being 5:00 and not having posted this at all
