I passed Anubis Expert. 78.8%. Only hit one mine, and that was when you start jumping every 8th note and then that single 4th note with mines everywhere else on that measure pops up... The 32nd notes included almost killed me...

Couldn't beat Hiryuu's score on Summer.

Of course, given the shape the pads were in, I don't think Damien(1) could've beaten that score on the machine I was playing on.

(1)- Current world champion of ITG. Also, he's frighteningly good and could probably have beaten said score while blindfolded or whatnot, but the point is the pads were absolutely terrible.

I re-checked that score on Summer; it was actually 81.10%. ITG2 has the annoying tendency of being off in the final say of their score.

I just like the way the steps are presented. It's completely sadistic but it has a good pattern to it. If you can get through the first half of it, though, the rest is a cakewalk, really. It's just R&P-like steps from there just 15BPM more.

So remember when everyone was all upset during the SuperNova beta because its timing window was purportedly as big as the console versions? There's an interesting theory now that states that that wasn't the case at all.

Not long ago, Roxor (I'll relate this to DDR, don't worry) released the R16 upgrade for ITG2, which claimed to fix the syncing in a lot of the songs. Several top players promptly proceeded to post scores far beyond anything that had been done before; lots of other players quickly were posting new personal bests on various songs, seemingly without efffort. These score leaps were more than simple player improvement, and indeed, some players thought it was more than could even be obtained by simple sync fixing.

Damien, whom I mentioned in my previous post, IMed Kyle Ward and discovered something else had changed in R16: The IO polling rate had been improved. If you don't understand what that means, in short, R16 more accurately senses steps than any previous revision. A side effect of this: The timing window, though unchanged from previous revisions, now seems bigger, hence all these godly and relatively godly scores popping up on R16s.

So, given that DDR Extreme is roughly 4 years old both hardware and software-wise (Say three-and-a-half years as of SuperNova's Beta), isn't it at all possible, if not likely, that Konami simply improved THEIR IO polling rate, either through hardware or software, then when people complained of "huge timing windows" (Which were in fact unchanged from Extreme), went back to the drawing board to play with them, utterly confused at this perception?

Oh, and Hiryuu: Yeah, ITG2 rounds incorrectly...it simply drops hidden digits, rather than correctly rounding them up or down.

That's kind of interesting to know. More sensitivity of course means better scores. The arrows don't have to be slammed in order to get read.

Talking about both my soft mat and the ITG2 machine's DDR pads from the second closest mall...

So basically, what you're saying is that all along we've had great timing, but the arrows sensitivity had a reaction delay causing our steps to seem off, correct?

If so, then those Triple "A"ers who self-learned to go a tad off beat to match the timing window, they're going to have a tough time!

Erm, maybe. As I understand it, in ITG specifically, some of the top players in the world (And a lot of other players, apparently) were getting more Excellents than they should have pre-R16. In other words, some players were even better than their scores indicated, and the machines are just now catching up to that. Scary thought.

The off sync issue in DDRSN is not a mere perception issue. Some songs are literally an entire quarter note off sync (iFuturelist comes to mind). This issue is only appearing in US and European release, none found in Japan. Konami even made an official statement saying they are now aware of the cause of the problem and is releasing patches to arcades sometime in the future to fix it. some believe it's a sound hardware issue. I personally believe it's the fact that most builds were made in March of 2006 (ours is 20060303). Some songs have a bad BPM setting, others have a bad gap. Others are dead on. I believe it's poor game development on Konami's part.

Edit: I forgot to add, I passed Healing D Vision finally today, though it was in a non-stop course, not 1.5x reverse. I also BLOW at Stepmania now, I can't even AA the easiest of 10 footers anymore

Figures, I'm on an R8 machine without any connection to the internet or way of upgrading it.

Though, it'd be even better if we got...

...that.

Haha, it's previewing here.

(not like I'd go see it, or like I'm probably able to see it, but still, that's funny. Especially considering we have no arcades, minus the occasional small one in a casino to help the kids throw away money too)

That would be what I was going to suggest you go do. Hell, it's only a 30 or so minute trek for you, isn't it?

Hiryuu, your late with that! I saw that pic last week!

Although I can't wait to see ITG3 for real. Vospi is having some songs on there. If you don't know who that is, he usually makes keyboard files for StepMania with his own songs.

And his songs are good, too.

Any guesses as to the remixes of Disconnected?

Right (Or more precisely, "I don't doubt it but don't have an SN near me to see for myself"), but that's not what I was referring to. Remember how during the beta/preview etc it was thought that the timing windows were at some point as big as the console versions? Then they were tightened to some ridiculous degree and finally settled to whatever they are now? We'll never know for sure, but what if the timing windows hadn't changed at all (Initially), but improved hardware/software/IO detection had created the illusion that they had?

The son of a bitch pulled it off.

He's got some damned good music. He redid 180 a while back but I never got to doing it...and he did want me to get his opinion on some of the stuff he did but I never got time to give him my opinion back. God DAMN...I just had to get two jobs and no life. :\

I see what you were talking about now, not the syncing issue but the timing window issue going back and forth. The timing window always being the same but the I/O poling just changing, gotcha.

Just slow...

I've got three coming along. One is a full version of The Whistle Song, one being Fragments of Sorrow (AND ITS GETTING DONE) and then another one that is either going to be Kingdom Hearts related or Freedom (Album Version). I have graphcs done for the latter, so... meh.

Also, for OSC related stuff, they are planning on doing another one that involves taking old OSC entries and redoing them. This ought to make things... cool. Hiryuu should do Transanity again, this time for ITG style.
