The special objects are annoying, is there any way to change them without messing up the level?
For example, stairs - The stairs at the start of 2-1 cannot be removed, moving the stair object up creates a GIANT page skip which means I Cannot add these stairs.
I am using SMBUtility.
Also, can you have a flagpole and castle in an underground level? I want to have 2-1 as an underground level but I do not think this is possible without the "ending" area accessible by the L-pipe.
Is there a way to change the look of the castles? The TSA's do not help much..

You can’t delete objects, you have to right click of an object and send them away. Your second question is that Flagpoles are Hex D Objects. You can set them anywhere in a level. To set castles you have to change the backgrounds to wall. These Objects are Hex E so keep that in mind. Or just set the castles to length 6.

Hope that helps unless anyone has a better understanding. My Grammar is bad.

I'm a bit confused.
By "removing" the stairs, I meant changing them to something else. As normal SMB never uses flagpoles and castles except in normal above-ground levels, I thought this couldn't be possible. Ugh.. There are so many things I want to do with SMB yet I can't. All of them can be done with SMB3, but I absolutely HATE SMB3 - all the level editors I've tried have been DOS-based and don't work properly, and many of the enemies aren't going to be used by me anyway.

I'm been a professional SMB1 and SMB2J (I'm veteran in SMB2J hacking) for 2 years. By changing the stairs just drag the object up or change another object's hex value.

You can look on AP's site learn on SMB utiltiy. AP is one of the best SMB1 hackers as well.

If you want to hack SMB3 use SMB3 Workshop instead.

Drag the object up? I tried that, it just turns into "Page skip: 52" and that happens - I get skipped to page 52 with no way out.

Thanks so much I'm going to try SMB3 Workshop now, once I get a clean SMB3 ROM.

I meant drag up out of the Hexes F,D and C. Then you have objects 0-B in your editor like coins.

I'm confused... Dragging up out of the hexes?
At least SMB1 hacking isn't as hard as SMB3 hacking... Having a list of the numbers for objects and enemies in SMB3 would help!

I have the enemy listing in my document for Mario all-stars in SMB3. But I deleted it off my file manager. I'll re-host them soon.

Anyway SMB1 hacking takes a lot of practice you eventually have to keep trying.

I'm not hacking SMB3 all-stars, I'm hacking the normal NES version.
But I would love an editor for the SMB1 all-stars Currently, all I can do is hack the graphics (I found a lot of the different background tiles in the ROM data) and play it.

I am currently working on another SMB1 hack which I Do plan to finish - but having about half of 2-1 destroyed certainly annoyed me.
Also, I have several questions..
1: What's wrong with pipes?
When I walk out of bonus areas, I come out of air. In the first case, the pipe has disappeared (it is not shown for some reason), and in the second case the pipe is there, but it is positioned higher up.
2: Mushrooms and pipes?
I positioned a Brick Block with a mushroom beneath a pipe. When I hit the block, the mushroom comes out but is stuck in the pipe. Any way to get it out?
3: I would like to skip all the Bowser's Castles until world 8. Is it possible to add a warp zone to the end of each of the -3 levels, and how is this done?
4: Is there another Mario game similar to SMB1, but that is easier to hack (and retains the same enemies, platforms, etc)? SMB3 is too confusing.. I just get a number I can change for enemies or items with no sign as to what they are. Google does not help.

1] Did you set the level pointers correctly? (Sprite Hex E)

2] No Comment

3] You can edit warp zones in SMb utility

4] SMB2J but only I hacked one with my hex editor. I still need to find additional data besides the level offset.

I want to help you more but my time is up *logs out*
