I'll use the "Fireballs go straight" address value as an example. Is there a way I can make this an ips patch so that I can apply the patch to any SMW rom rather than opening the hex editor and editing it manually, and if so, can I do the same for some of the addresses in the SMW rom address thread. I want make quick ips patches so that I can apply them to my rom without opening the hex editor all the time.

just have two copy of your rom, open them both in LM and export/import the GFX, save a level, save the map16 and the overworld(to have all LM ASM hack) then do the ASM work in the second one and then use lunar IPS and choose the one with all LM ASM hack but no hex editing as the original and the one with hex editing as the modified, that what I did with all my patch to allow maximum compatibility

I followed your instuctions. I took two clean SMW roms, save them like you said, made the Hex changes using goldfinger(making the fireballs go straight patch) for one of the roms, and made the patch like your instuctions said, but when I applied the patch to another SMW rom, it crashes at the title screen. Did I do something wrong? Can you clearify this a little more for me?

the prupose of doing this is to allow the patch to be aplied to any hack in progress, so the patch MUST be applied to a modified SMW ROM that has all the LM ASM hack

You can do this with simple things like making fireballs go straight, but if your patch requires any code or data to be added to the ROM, then it can conflict with other patches. In fact this is one of the biggest problems with SMW ASM hacking.

Also you could create a patch manually in hex. First 5 bytes are "PATCH", then just repeat 3 bytes for address, 2 for number of bytes, then the data. Last 3 bytes are "EOF".

...forget LM. Just compare a hex edited plain SMW rom with a regular one and it should work. It's how I did all my artifacts.

Or you guys could just use an assembler and patch to any rom, regardless of its modifications. :/

Believe me, I've worked with .ips patches for ASM hacks before and even just straight data hacks and an assembler is way more flexible and less headache all around.

^ "seconded", yet you still distribute an IPS file with your patch.

His HDMA hack for SMW came with an assembler.
