So, I want to link one part of the overworld to another with one of those neato door things. (like the vanilla dome)

I put it in and I added that cliff-entrence sort of tile, but all Mario does is walk into the door and walk back out...

Teh problem:

Overworld Overworld Menu : Exit Level Tile Settings

This dialog can only be used if you select one of the layer 1 exit tiles first. These tiles are sometimes invisible though, so you should use the view menu and enable the Layer 1 Mario Paths setting. The exit tiles are the path tiles that are in red.

An exit tile is used by the game to allow the player to walk from one submap of the overworld to another. Each tile is (or should be) linked to another, and there can only be as many links as there are in the link table, which is already full. However, if you're careful you should never have to use this dialog, since the overworld editor can automatically track the exit tiles and make the necessary changes to the position tables when you move them. Just don't put them right beside one another, as the sprite coordinates the game uses makes it pretty much impossible for the program to track them properly once you move them again after doing that. But if you accidentally did exactly that, or deleted one or more of the tiles, you can use this dialog to re-link the exit tiles to one another.

If Mario's sprite coordinates are off by even a single pixel when he hits an exit tile (or if the exit tile doesn't have a destination set up yet), it will malfunction and Mario will end up right back on the same screen he was trying to leave. Thus it's vitally important that you create proper paths between all your levels so Mario doesn't end up a little bit off from where he should be normally. If you aren't sure about your paths, just take a snapshot of Mario standing on a level tile and compare it to a snapshot of him standing on a level tile in the original game (though you can often tell even without using snapshots). If he's standing a little off, some path you used to get to your level tile is messed up. Re-linking exit tiles will not help if improperly constructed paths are the cause.

Keep in mind that overworld exit tiles are very picky, and people new to the editor often have trouble with them. The most common pitfall (other than paths) is that people do not follow each step of the procedure given below exactly as described. Don't skip hitting ok, don't skip setting something to "no setting", and don't take any other shortcuts, or it may not work.

Carefully follow this procedure to re-link any two exit tiles: (Just make sure to sort out which two exit indexes you're going to use ahead of time.)

· Select the first exit tile, and enter this dialog. For the Exit index to use, select the first index you're going to use. Set the Destination exit index to "No Setting". Change the Direction to enter from setting to the desired direction. Hit ok.

· Select the second exit tile, and enter this dialog. For the Exit index to use, select the second index you're going to use (must be different than the one you used for the first exit tile). Set the Destination exit index to the first index you’re using (the same one you set for the first exit tile). Change the Direction to enter from setting to the opposite direction you used for the first exit tile. Hit ok.

· Select the first exit tile again, and enter this dialog. You can now set the Destination exit index to the second index you're using. Hit ok.

And that's it. The two exit tiles should now be re-linked to one another.

This has been copied word for word strait out of the lunar magic help file, or the thing you should read 9 times over before posting a question. I hope this helps.

So that means I can't do it?
Oh, and I read that in the LM Help FIle, I was just wondering if that was the only way to do it... because the two overworlds I want to connect aren't next to eachother and I thought a door would look pretty leet.
Guess I gotta put in a pipe ><

No you don't. In Layer 1 mode, you have to select the exit tile. Select "Exit Level Tile" settings from the overworld menu. Just set the "direction to enter from" bit properly, in this case, to "bottom" for the first one and "top" to the second. Be sure to set the destination and exit indexes as well.

asdf is being unspecific again and not saying the thing you have to set to top is the one the door connects to, and that the door should be set to bottom.

Edit: He edited his own post to make more sense
