Well, the enitre Comic series was written in response by the author against the ultra conservative Thatcher administration in london in the late 80's early 90's. Several high end government offices and poeple were quoted as saying they wished to erradicate homosexuality. The author feared that it would indeed be a slippery slope, and his "who would they come after next" reasoning was well justified.

He also expresses that the early comics weren't nearly as well written as the latter ones, but the movie writers tried to use elements from them all to make the movie.

Such is life.

I saw the movie and it was great, even if there wasn't much action. It showed how a fascist regime can affect and change the lives of the people forever. And how a misterious character can also motivate a revolution.

There were some things that I didn't expect in the movie...

Spoiler:
A parody of V and the Chancellor on T.V. with the Benny Hill theme playing. LOL

Evey's incarceration was a test from V.

A final fight between V and the Chancellor. Instead, Creedy captures the Chancellor and shoots him as an agreement to get V unmasked, it doesn't work out, so a shootout breaks off that leads Creedy being killed by V.

But at least the movie ended with a blast (literally).

Saw the movie, I kinda liked it. Not the best one I've seen and not the worst. My hubby saw it with me and saw all the signs at who they were attacking and I'm njust watching it as a movie and not letting it bother me, influence me or anything like that. People should let little things like a movie get to them and they should learn to think for themselves. But what do I know.

I absolutely *loved* this movie. The imagery, symbolism, themes, etc. were so well done and so thought out, and during the entire movie I kept thinking "This is just like 1984!" (Which I was thrilled about, because it's one of my favorite books). I knew they'd never be able to make a movie about 1984 and get it to be a popular movie, simply because it doesn't have the right kind of action/romance that people would like, or could appreciate in a movie; however, V for Vendetta is almost like they replaced the main two characters with likable, messed up people that were products of the society that they lived in, and gave it a decent ending. So I'm kind of ignoring the fact that there was a comic, and I'm just considering it to be the movie version of 1984 .

I don't really see how anyone can consider it a way that they were promoting their views though, because this isn't a recent topic. These issues have been going on for hundreds of years, and to say that it's in direct association with today's politics is like disregarding everything that's happened throughout the course of history.

...and V is so hot...
