I fail horribly in this game. In all modes I have tried.. I tried normal. Fail. Death mode. Fail. Death mode and hide next. Four lines. Still failing.

I am at a loss as to how XK got 80 some lines in Death mode.

Do you use a rapid-fire controller program? Am I missing something here?

I had my Horeshoes, 4-leaf clovers, and other lucky objects around...

Kidding. But it was 50% luck, I'll admit to that.

Xkeeper presents:

FUNDAMENTAL RULES OF DEATHRIS FOR DUMMIES

Lesson 1: Everything you know is wrong. No, really.
- In the original game, your goal was to build up a tower and clear 4 lines at once. This is not your goal.
- In the original game, your secondary goal was to stay alive as long as possible. This comes secondary because as the game progressed, it became harder to score big points, so you wanted to get those early (and would generally do stupid things for them). This -is- your goal.

You want to last as long as possible. Forget setting up multiple clears -- if an oppertunity to clear lines presents itself, TAKE IT! Obviously, setting up an easy line clear is always good -- just don't go out of your way to make more than one, since it's very easy to screw up and be out one, two, three, four, even six or seven rows because you coudln't get the right piece or the right piece wasn't.

That 3000 point tetris at level 1 looks tempting, but don't -- single lines are worth that much later in the game, and you have no control over how fast the point values rise -- just stay alive and you'll score huge points.

Lesson 2: Do things before you can do things. Right.

Holding the rotate buttons will rotate the piece before you get it -- if you're holding the clockwise button when the piece drops, it'll have been rotated when it drops (note: this doens't mean you can rotate it multiple times -- see below.) ... this also applies to left-right: holding one before a piece drops will move it to the left or right one when it drops, which could give you that critical edge.

However, there's an undocumented 'feature' -- holding BOTH rotate buttons when a piece drops will cause it to be rotated TWICE... so you can access all 4 rotations with only one rotation, before a piece even drops.

Lesson 3: Stack building for dummies.
There are several ways to build your stack here, though the best ones usually involve not having any dips from the center out -- you want your tower to be in the middle, so that there's a rough /\, without any stupid dimples in it (e.g:
....[]
[]..[]
[][][]
) or falling pieces WILL get caught on them and you will be screwed.

Lesson 4: Jam.
Turn the fucking music up to max volume and RAWK OUT~!

(really, it helps)

Damn it Chevy.
I got tired of smacking the keyboard for blind death mode, so I did some normal tetris. Got about 224K points, while it isn't good, it isn't bad

It's easier once you've honed your reflexes from death mode.

I'm too sloppy in normal mode; I haven't yet cleared 60k.

But I'm really tired today, so maybe that's my problem.

This game is fun, but hard. Sadly, I suck at it too. I fell rejected, by the world... I suck so bad I got a score of 595 in regular...
How come I cant put my name in the high score if I did better than the bottom place person?

And why does Dagsha keep editing your posts? Are you friends with him and it's a joke?

Woo! Number 471!(484 and 511 too)

It's funny how close I am to other board members. (NSNick, Zachio, Acmlm among others) *Looks up to the higher ranked people* Nevermind...(didn't notice that the list is dominated by boarders)

This game can be really lenient with the block movement but can also be a real bitch.
