You know, thinking about it, items that make limited use of suit abilities isn't a bad idea.

For example, a boomerang compared to the boomerang suit: Allow you to use a single boomerang as long as you can catch it again. That way, if you miss, you get another shot. When you hit your target, it disappears.

well I just added a hack that fellow SMB3 hackers know is a good thing: You can now place coins or bricks in the air OR water. Before, coins could only be placed in the water of Water object set levels, but now they can be in any water, hehe

How about a powerup that boosts the power of whatever suit you have? If you're Fire Mario, your fireballs would kill enemies they normally can't, if you're Raccoon Mario, you could fly longer, Ice Mario's ice balls would freeze enemies longer, etc.

Actually, it turns them into throwable ice blocks, it doesn't freeze them in THAT sense. Oh, and the coins in water thing = win.

I wonder if DD is getting sick of all these new suit ideas.

Thinking about doing something with Hammer Bros. on the map? Oh! And you might need to extend your maps...alot! They seem very crowded, and might more-so if you use Hammer Bros.

I hope alot of these items won't be one-use things. I'm looking forward to a Mini Fortress that's pretty hard, but if you have a Boomerang suit, it'd still be challenging. Can't make things too easy.

If you're going to replace ANY item, then Luigi's Power Bag is the one to lose. Looks the most useless. The only good I see in this is maybe if you found a star in the stage and wanted to save it for later. There were a sufficient amount of Tanooki Suits in the original SMB3 to keep us satisfied without wishing we could store the ones we found mid-stage.

Ontop of that, there might already be too many items to hold.
How much inventory space is there?
Make sure Mario's Mega Star is only available once or twice in the entire game. Can't make it too easy.

The Bonus Stages sound awesome! I remember in your last demo, with the falling coins on ice platforms. I think that one was too hard though, so if you get fresh ideas--NP removing that one.
I really like the idea of a "Race to the Finish" Bonus Stage.
...Holy crap! SSBM nostagia right now... Ofcourse, it'd be pretty much nothing like it...but the name!!!!

Sorry this isn't another "OMG I LUV U!1" post, but this is looking spectacular.
Also, if me throwing in ideas like this offends you... I really am sorry! I have no hacking skills what-so-ever! I've only dabbled in Lunar Magic and RPG Maker a little.
So you are the ultimate awesome!
--Might start making some level designs that might give you some ideas, seeing as that's the most time-consuming part.--

Now then... Where's Omega and that Dude guy with some LttP action!!

You could have a level repointer item. Use it and enter a level and it'll send you to one of a couple totally different levels, going back to normal when you're done. You'd have to make it not work on boss levels.

Or a magnetic shield of sorts that turns fireballs and boomerangs that hit you into your fireballs and boomerangs and reflect back.

Hammer Bros. are gone, they cause too many problems with map design since you have to have pointers on each and every road tile that they can access

Every item can be found or bought more than once. Some of these items can make the game really easy, but you have to spend the time to collect the coins to get them. Remember, the original SMB3 wasn't that hard at all, but incredibly fun. However, if my hack needs to be more challenging, I will create a "challenge" version for those looking for comething harder.

The thing is, the item has 5 uses. So you can go to a stage with a secret suit and rack up on those suits since giant ? blocks regenerate themselves. Also, this item can only be won in the ice bonus stages, so it's rare.

The item space has been expanded to hold 49 items, so I think that's plenty of space

I like the idea of changing pointers. In fact if you wanted to make additions to a level after a condition is set, this would be a good idea. I was allready thinking about Zelda 2 and how the level data is set up that what if somthing happened that make the level add 1 or 2 extra objects to the room, like if you got an item or somthing.

Now there's an awesome idea. While you guys are speaking of ideas of items and insectduel is speaking of combining powers, maybe you could make an item that you can use that lets you combine them like a fusion item.

This IS the best idea I've heard in a while. 'Keeping the fire power when turning small', who wouldn't want more fireball ability? It's always a pain losing that very cool fireball ability when picking up a raccoon suit, this would balance all that lost fireball time by having SMALL FIREBALL MARIO.

Just wondering, but is the hacking done to the game going to allow it to be played on actual NES hardware with an eprom cart? I know this couldn't be done with the original Mario Adventure hack. Very impressive.

Yes, this hack should work on the real hardware. I've had no problem with it not working in any of the emulators thus far.

Well DahrkDaiz, you haven't said to keep any ideas for items up or not lately but I have one more, not great but not too many people are contributing as much as they were.

An item to either win in a bonus game or buyable at a shop, a treasure chest that has any random item or power-up inside of it. Probably could make it to where it gives you crap items more often but can also give you some rare items too.

I have an idea on how to make the game more challenging.
You should make it so that if you were to enter a level using Fire Storm,
you would instead go to a different level that has a floor made of all ice.
If you did not use Fire Storm, you would go to a regular level.

Also, I don't know if its possible, but you could change the Castle place
,where the king is, into a level.The king will be at the end

And one of the enemies could take all three of your hearts while using
the heart suit

hmm... this gives me an idea... for a totally new power up system

I say Trash small Mario and Luigi. Mario and Luigi wont get small ala the original. Instead, a mushroom would replenish a chracters health by 1 point... Dahrk Daiz could use his heart system to make the power up/down more like SMB2USA... having 3 hits before death unless you get the heart power-up which would give you more health... powerups would simply vanish after being hit by an enemy unless of course you have a hybrid power. A hybrid power would be a combination of 2 or more regular power-ups such as Racoon and Fire... if you were to combine both in a level or on the map screen you would get both powers at once as well as an additional hit from an enemy before powering down. For example racoon fire mario would revert to racoon mario after one hit... and normal mario after 2.

Just some thoughts...Dont know if you can't use these or what, but just some thoughts, pure random first thoughts.

How about, New hammerbors enemies, preferably one of as many of the suits you can collect as possible. How fun would it be to get hit with an iceball...thing.

You know the mouse suit? Well i seem to recall it bothered me a little cause the bombs would explode in my hands. Maybe you could make it so that bombs dont explode when you hold them if you have the mouse suit.

I wants me a giant normal hammerbros, can you do it? (aka the fire bros or whatever)

Add a suit that lets you ride on top of a turtle shell. Think DCK. Basically you would land on top of a still shell and it would begin to move, but you wouldn't bounce off of it. Maybe play a walking animation.

Tweek the boss battles. Maybe... bowser could spit a bunch of the little fire bros fire balls or somehting.

Since you have ice blocks that can only be passed with fire, how about hot blocks that have to be cooled with ice? Maybe have a block that looks red hot, when you touch it it does something to hit you, and you have to cool it with the ice balls.

Add some more functionality to the frog suit. How about, instead of a frog we had a tree frog? Basically add to it the power to slowly climb walls, or let it wall jump. Maybe this could be a second upgrade. Also, if character is moving fast enough when swimming straight up and they hit the top of the water, maybe they could jump really high out of the water?

Poison upgrades. Basically these should do exaclty the opposite of what the normal ones do. here are some examples. Rather than be a whole suit, they should be like a switch checked at the appropriate points in the corresponding suit.

poison mushroom.

Poison star, basically it would be like you were starred, but instead of being invincible, any hit at all will kill you, regardless of suit status. Getting a star should cancel this.

Poison leaf: jump is reduced to the level of when you have those little micro goombas on you.

Poison fire flower: Fire balls heal enemies. Or dont hurt enemies but destroy coins.




One thought... For a suit, how about a suit that reduces every ability (jumping running), but allows you to activate a p switch whenever you please? Maybe it would cost coins to activate...

How about one that lets you toss your coins at the enemy?

Yes, with hacking, Mario and Luigi can get Star/Ice powers relatively, but in the normal game, they're only accessible by what I set (Mario = Ice, Luigi = Star).
