Okay, this might seem a bit odd, so let me try to start at the beginning:

When I was younger, I heard that my grandmother (on my father's side) never learned how to drive (to this day she doesn't drive) and that she doesn't like to drive.

Now, growing up, I've been in several car accidents (one was my fault but all I did was hit the dude's bumper in traffic and there was no real damage) where about three of there were really major. One happened when I was around 8 or 9 years old and I had to go to the hospital for a deep cut behind my ear. Another one was when I was around 15 or 16 years old and a school bus hit us. My mom and I were fine, but the bus came inches from cutting into my side. The third one was around the same year as the bus. We were hit by a truck, this time on my mom's side and we almost tipped over.

Fast forward to today: Last accident I was in, was on Chris' birthday this year. A car hit another car, which then hit us. The other two cars were totaled but ours were fine, thankfully.

Now, what I am trying to get at here, is that I have some sort of fear of when someone else is driving on a highway with heaps of fast moving traffic. Heck, if I have to drive myself and I know the highway is busy (and I know its the fastest way still to get to where I am going) I will still take the normal roads.

Like yesterday, Chris was driving home and I just started to get tense, I didn't talk much, and sometimes I would have images of car crashes happening.

I'm thinking that might happen more when we listen to AM radio (Chris' vice) because I've noticed when I listen to my CDs, I tend to be a bit calmer.

But is there anyway to get over this all together? Besides see pro help?

Well, I remember I got hit by a car when I was 12 years old. My bike got wrecked, I'm suprised I didn't die. I had a fear of bike riding cuase I thought I woulda got hit again (or even die.) I started bike riding again recently (when I almost turned 30) What helped me over come my fear was I rode my bike up and down the block. And then eventually I started riding around 37th. ave, It took me a while to conquer my fear. But I still bike ride carefully.

Some fears take a while to go away as long as you make the effort to conquer'em. You are on the right track with listening to your CDs while in the car (and try not to listen to any type of news broadcast in the car too), it should be done all the time until the fear is gone completely. Try to think about other things besides car crashes, it'll be hard at first but you'll pull through. I hope I was helpful to ya's.

Its understandable that you tense up. I had a car wreck August 1, 2002. The car rolled 8 times. Ever since then I can't drive in snow if there are any cars around me. I stop and wait for them to pass me.

It's rediculous I know...

Yikes for you Anya.
