Not to mention it costs a hefty amount of "gold and silver" to actually get on the plane in the first place.

OK, you're all quite wrong so far... But like I said, you're on the right track...

NSNick is closest so far, in his use of logic, but he's applying the "beginnings of gold and silver" in the wrong way. And aren't you all concerned about the rest of the riddle?

Looks like we've got our first "Hard" today...

Hot air balloon? Instead of gas as in the fuel, gas as in heated gas to lift the balloon?

No, Gas is wrong. Gas is the wrong use of the phrase, reread the riddle... The entire riddle, every part of the riddle is in some way important... The words, the linkings, think about them all...

Got an idea. Is it the pilot? Victory is a play on the name Victor, which could be the pilots name. The gold and silver beginnings could be badges the pilot has for flying and being licensed to fly.

I know this is wrong, but I'm going to say it anyway:

The Greek word for victory is nike, which is also the name of the Greek goddess of victory. Nike has wings, therefor she could journey to the sky. Nike is also a brand of very expensive sneakers, without alot of money (gold and silver), you can't buy them, therefor your journey to the sky would be shortened (assuming if the Nike goddess is a metaphor for the shoes, than the journey to the sky is a metaphor for whatever you intend on doing with them, like say, playing basketball).

So in that case I'd say its a pair of Nikes.

Another possibility, (a much more likely one), is that its a gatling gun, when loaded with bullets (normal gold and silver in color), it can be used score an arial victory, by shooting down an enemy plane.

Well, that's an easy one, Grey ... win

... Wind ... unfortunately, I can't tell you why that would be. Still haven't figured out the silver and gold stuff.

Hmmm...

Victory/win/wind (what Teddylot said) refers to how an airplane generates the lift to fly. Regardless, it's never going to make it to the skies without the gas (gold and silver, as nick said) to begin its journey.

Okay that probably has nothing to do with anything, but... Eh.

"Your victory's journey to the skies will be severely shortened if you don't give it any gold and silver beginnings..."
Victory apparently means win, or wind. Wind can't move at all without being created, and thus its "journey to the skies" will be shortened to the point of almost non-existance. I'm assuming some kind of fan would be in order, which, if it were powerful enough to blow to the skies, would probably require a large sum of money, or "gold and silver." I'm probably wrong with this, but I suppose it won't hurt to try.

Still wrong, but you're getting closer.

What are the actual beginnings of gold and silver, and how would you give them to a victory?

I'm going to say a hot air balloon, not because gold and silver means gas, but because "gold and silver beginnings" is heat, since you need heat melt the ore.

>.> It was wings, people. Win = victory, beginnings of gold and silver are G and S, added on to win = wings.

No points, I guess.

Riddle #4:
I was thinking about how great of the name for a punk band Optical Cheese would be today. It kinda squeaked out of my head for a while, but I was able to pack it back in.

Go for it, guys.

A mouse/rat. Optical for 3 Blind Mice, Cheese for the obvious connection. Mice squeak, and people can be referred to as packrats.

Correct. Close on the logic, but you've got one small detail wrong. I like the 3 Blind Mice idea, though.
