| I understand that's there's a good chance this thread will be closed, but I was a little torn on which rule to break. Don't bump old threads, or don't make new threads on an existing topic. I chose the second one because I felt like making a new thread.
Anyway, I finally got around to watching Saw, and it was pretty good so I went ahead and watched the sequal. Ordinarily, I don't expect much from sequals where they weren't even creative enough to come up with a better title than the first movie's title with II added. But Saw II was decent, not as good as the first one, but good. Neither movie was that gory, although were a few cringe invoking scenes in both. But they're more supense and thrillers than gore/"watch people get killed" movies, which is good because I've never really saw the point to those. What I liked about both movies is that they keep you thinking the whole way, not just about what was going to happen next and what big plot twist was coming, but about the different solutions to the situations the characters were in. In the first one the characters did a pretty good job of using common sense in most situations, and thinking of better solutions than what the movie set-up. For instance, I was quite happy when that cop, after me yelling at the screen several times (I have a tendency to do that, which is why I normally watch movies alone), finally just shot the stupid drills. The second one however, kinda annoyed me in that each situation was set-up with a particualer solution and the characters in the movie were completely oblivious to any other possibilities, even if they were glaringly obvious. Actually the characters in the second one were all basically morons. I know, given their intense situations, it may have been hard for them to think up the best approach to each problem, and I also if I had just 2 minutes (or whatever amount of time it was) to find a key in a vat of syringes, I might not think to wrap something around my arms before I go digging around. But I also know if I had time to sit and think out the best course of action in a situation I wouldn't climb inside an oven reguardless of my state of mind. The second one also really began to drag after the first half hour or so of these idiots wondering around that house. Especially because it became very cliche, and reminded me of every other movie where there's a group of people trapped anywhere. With everybody constantly bickering with each other, and arguing over which direction to go and one jerk who puts his life above all the others. And of course a character that eventually become homicidal towards the others *coughcubecough*. The cop scenes were also pretty cliche in the second one too, but they didn't spend to much time on them so it wasn't too bad. One thing I will say, I was completely caught off guard by the ending of both of them. I like these types of surprise endings that aren't just entirely random, but based on clues dropped throughout the movie. The trick to those type of endings is that the movie has to keep you distracted enough by the tension in each scene to keep you from noticing hints that on thinking back make the big twist very obvious. Both movies did that very well. |

Dr Gordon is still alive. Watch the opening of Saw 2, where the guy is seen being operated on the tv. The surgeon has a limp. (insert twilight zone music here) |

| I've seen this mentioned a few places, but I don't really believe it, simply because, unlike Amanda, Dr. Gordon failed the game, so I pretty sure Jigsaw killed him. Plus the actor who played him is currently suing the producers of the first film because they didn't pay him enough, so I don't think they could get him back for a third movie. | |||
