Well, here's the hack that I've been working on as a side project. Even if it's just a graphics hack you'll see that the game is not easy. It was kinda fun making this hack, anyways here's some screens to check out, pics are from newest to oldest...

Here's the patch. Don't get mad at me if you get lost in this game, See ya's.

Neat, though the game is a bit too difficult.

Very nice, and jeeze, this is tough. I've never heard of it before. Definitely a clever way to get people to try an unknown game, hehe.

the original game Mystery of Atlantis is a really good game, it's one of those rare Sunsoft gems. The same people who did Batman, Gremlins 2, Gimmick, and Ufouria also did this game. It never made it to the US but the they planned on releasing here as Super Pitfall 2. But yeah try the original game too, it's very clever becasue of the many different paths you can take, and I think the different paths and secret doors are effected by your time and pounts. Once you get used to it its not that difficult.

I have 3 things that I would modify.

#1, You have Mario in his "Running" pose when standing still. I'd change him to the "Standing" pose

#2, Id make the bombs thrown into BOB-OMBS

#3, I'd make an English version

ImInvisible: I took care of number one & three, number 2 woulda been cool to do but I phail big time at sprite drawing, even if I wanted to change the bombs to Bob-Bombs the sprites are too small. Good lookin out though.

To everyone else the download to the update is in my first post, thanks for the comments so far.

A man after my own heart. I love to see marioized games. So long as it is somewhat mario-ish in nature. Also note, there are bomb sprites used in mario 2, marioland, mario land 2, mario land 3. So feel free to model your bomb after those if you are looking for a good replacement for your current bomb.

Edit. Heres a few FCEUXD codes for those that need them.

Infinite Time
01D0 09
01D1 09
01D2 09
Infinite Lives
0194 08

Probably, go get GoodNES and check your ROM. Since GoodNES is confusing I'll lay it out:
1. Have all your ROMs in one directory (or at least the ROMs you want to check)
2. Extract GoodNES in that same directory
3. At a command prompt in that directory, run: GoodNES.exe rename

now go check to see what filename was given to Atlantis No Nazo in the new NESRen directory

Hey man sorry to complain but Mario's animation is still off.

#1. Now it seems there are more "Standing" sprites than "Running" sprites when he is actually running. It makes him run choppy.

#2. you have the wrong sprite for his lower half when he throws a bomb.

Leo D.: I'll see what can I do, I'm gonna be busy for the next few days.

ImInvisible: edit - I fixed the running animations, they both look better when Mario runs now. About the throwing animation, it'll look a bit off since Mario doesn't stand when he jumps. and the legs share the same sprite when the explorer throws the bomb. Take a look at the screen here.

To everyone else, get the update again in my first post, Mario runs smoother now.

edit - I also fixed the throwing sprite, Mario has his arms raised in the air. Well, I'm goin to bed.

And here is my contribution. Forget bombs. Add this code made by Ugetab into your game and make them into fireballs instead.

Bombs explode much sooner AOKPYYAS

It will also help deal with people finding this game too hard. Reducing the time it takes for bombs to explode means the game will be a bit more action oriented and less running away. Sure it's not true to the original game designers intent but this is a Mario game now. If you change the explosion animation to a mario graphic people might swear that is his fireflower powerup.

I played your hack and it's amazing. It's much better than the original game which it the graphics kinda suck. Anyway I really like how I play as Mario in a new challenging game. Nice work Googie.
