Are there any underrated, unpopular games that you think deserves recognition? Which ones do you like and why are they good?

Super Chase HQ - SNES

-The first time I played this game, I thought it was the most realistic car game of all time. You're an undercover cop driving around in a sweet Koenig sports car bashing the criminals until they stop. Although the gameplay might be a bit repetitive, the different enemies and feeling from the missions makes this a must-try.

Pocky and Rocky - SNES

-I don't recall ever seeing this for sale in the US, nor have I seen a commercial for it. It's a cute action-packed game with beautiful graphics, excellent gameplay, hundreds of enemies and nice difficulty. It's very fun to play with a friend.

Bauldur's Gate - PC

-If you like Dungeons and Dragons, this game might get your fancy. The story is awesome and like most RPGs, this game takes several days to finish. I found this addicting and played it over for 2 years.

CarnEvil - Arcade

-Sometimes at the mall, I'll go to an arcade and find this gem. I usually spend a good $20 in quarters playing this game. It's very terrifying, the enemies still creep me out and the heavy gore gives me a good adrenaline rush that makes me wanna use every token.

Illusion of Gaia - SNES
Awesome game, neat music, OK graphics, puzzles and dungeons, and the roasting of a secondary helper character.

Uniracers - SNES
This is the first trick-bases games I remember playing. The graphics are simple, but simple is a good thing.

Paladin's Quest - SNES
I'm a sucker for pastel colors.
There are alot of characters to join your party, the music is pretty darn good at setting the mood for whatever goes on in the game, and a really spiffy debug mode that doesn't require any cheat devices or hacking to use...

The Magic of Schaharazade - NES
I played this before I played Final Fantasy, making this my first RPG game. It's a bit like zelda and final fantasy mixed. I love all the characters, and you can stab people with your sword and they go "AHHH". To this day, I still have the word "Pampoo" stuck in my head..

Nethack - Run on Everything
Maybe not so unpopular, but not many people recognise it. It's a nice single-person dungeon game. The dungeon is randomly regenerated every time you start a game, so it's literally impossible to have walkthroughs on it (There are spoilers which give you tips; those spoilers are often written by looking at Nethack's source code even)

Illusion of Gaia was hardly overlooked. Baldur's Gate had a cult following.

Way to stay on topic.

Firepower 2000 on the SNES was an awesome top down shooter. Never got the respect it deserved, in my opinion.

The first post you made had a point. The second makes me want to tell you to fuck off, \-2. Some of the other staff have already complained about your trolling, and if it continues you will be banned. Comprende?

Clock, in a way, his first post was on-topic (and he was right, really. =/). No modding from non-mods, k?

Forsaken (Nintendo 64, Playstation, PC; I've only played the N64 version) is a fun little FPS, rather Descent-like really, with a pretty long single-player mode and a good Multiplayer. Interestingly, every review I've seen of the N64 version was good, and every review of the other two was bad. Of course, for once, the N64 controller actually worked well for the game, and I'm not really sure how it'd be played on a Playstation controller, so maybe that had something to do with it.

How convenient. One of my all-time favorite games is rather unknown and underrated, and I already blathered about it elsewhere on the board.

The Addams Family (SNES) is a platformer based on the first movie. The game features an expansive, detailed map with a good amount of nonlinearity and loads of secret rooms and minor nooks and crannies for you to find. Because it's easy to rack up a ton of extra lives and there is no instant death in the game (spikes, hot stuff, and the like just hurt you, and bottomless pits are actually doors), the game encourages you to goof around, and that's the way I found pretty much all of the secret rooms that Nintendo Power didn't list. The basic game mechanics (play control, hit detection) and graphics and sound are pretty polished, and the difficulty is quite reasonable for most people to handle, but it's the fricking ginormous mansion that really sends the game into the ZOMG AWESOME category for me. I spent months exploring and trying to find everything. It was actually somewhat of a letdown when I got the ROM years later and found the room list and saw that I was only missing three.

Shadow of Destiny (PS2) is one of the most unique games I've played in the sense that it's more of an interactive movie than anything else. It's a story-driven adventure about a guy who keeps getting killed and has to jump back and forth in time to find out what's going on. There's no action, and there really isn't that much actual gameplay to be had. You do have items to use, but you're mostly running around trying to find new cut scenes and whatnot. Now, the reason this works is that the story kicks megaton ass, and you need multiple different playthroughs to experience it to a decent extent. I love stories where you have no idea what's going on and discover the situation and characters throughout the course of the game (or book or movie). I should also mention that going through the game is relaxing, not tedious. And there are kitties! OK, so perhaps I am a wee bit biased, but I absolutely loved this game. For a more organized and detailed review written when I was actually playing it, look here.

Deus Ex, easily. It has perhaps the greatest storyline and characters in any videogame to date. An FPS with RPG elements, in a future post-chaotic, and believable world. With incredible music that pulls you in, amazing characters, and everything. The only bad thing, is the outdated engine. But I still go back and play that game to this day.

To bad Invisible War wasn't nearly as good.

Sonic CD is extremely overlooked also. It's easily my favorite Sonic game, over all of the Hedgehog series.

My friend bought Paladin's Quest from a garage sale when he borrowed my SNES, lol. I couldn't fucking stand the graphics, but it was still a pretty solid game.

I bought Sonic CD when it was first released for the PC, in one of those huge-ass, clunky boxes. A month later it was in bargain bins in every corner of the earth

I think either of the System Shock games deserve some mention, I only managed to get halfway through the second one though.

Was it really any good?

Hmm... Snake rattle n roll maybe? Sure people talk about it now and then, but I still feel like the game was somewhat overlooked.

Oh yes, Snake Rattle 'n Roll did not get nearly enough attention... And I still haven't beaten level 11.

I would have to go with Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble. It's like... No one cared how awesome that game was. It was sad

So like, nobody has mentioned Thousand Arms. However, I'm here to talk about Shadowrun on Genesis. It's like Blade Runner and Total Recall, but more badass than either. And there were Native Americans.

Hebereke - awesome platformer that was butchered when it came to the States as "Ufouria". I have to give credit to Kon Tiki for showing me that game.

Sugoi Hebereke was fun too because it was kind of like an unpolished snes smash bros. Fun.

Oh, a Genesis is left lonely without the ThunderForce series.

ThunderForce IV almost blows away Gradius III, it's close. Music wise, it blows away any other Genesis game. III was quite awesome also.

Download the .gym and see for yourself.
