Im at school and I am in need to find out how to upgrade from Novell to Windows Active Directory. We have windows server 2003 and we need to find out how to migrate without erasing anything.
Any help/links/info would be greatly appreciated. :/ |

I'd be very surprised if anybody here knows enough about it either to be real helpful. I've been involved in parts of such a migration before, it was a huge undertaking and because I've only been involved in little bits of it (like resolving some of the bugs we got with usernames, which was huge in and of itself) I'm not in a position to help either. Good luck though. |

If you can find a way to read all the ACLs out of Novell and find a way to automate the entry of all the ACLs into Active Directory, you have a chance to do it quite cleanly. So, I would probably look into what tools Novell gives you for listing ACLs and look into whether the Active Directory system allows command line entry.
Last summer, I dealt with data migration from one system to a completely different system. I had to find a mechanism to dump all the original data and find a way to adapt the data into something the new system will accept via some type of automation. |

You're asking the wrong group of people. Yes there are plenty of knoledgable people here but this is a little more than your basic "why my dos program close when i open it?" type of question that normally gets answered.
With that said. If you still need help by monday when my classes resume, I can ask one of my professors who probably knows the answer to your question. |

Yes, I agree that you're asking the wrong group of people, although I've seen it done twice I still wouldn't know where to start to advise you here.
I will link you to Microsoft's page on the matter and a whitepaper on the matter that I googled for and have not read. Oh, and with any big undertaking, plan things out VERY carefully and thoroughly. From memory, I think you have to watch for 's, like if somebody's name is "O'reilly" I don't think the ' works.... where it did in eDirectory |
