I've already been here for a couple of days but this is my first time on the board. I was not on the other message board, but I have viewed it a few times for some help with ROM hacking.

My alias is Blue Falkon (starting to sound like a spy here, maybe I am?), I am a game designer by hobby and I work as a volunteer in the game industry. I usually lead projects in game development (but they never finish, hard to keep interest).

I've always been interested in games. I started playing videogames when I was 3 or 4 years old, and from when I first started I was amazing at them, and now I'm even better as I have grown up. I usually compete with others in gaming and I am, unofficially, the provincial grand champion of Goldeneye 64 in Ontario (that is, when I lived there). Now I'm testing the competition in the F-Zero series.

Some of my best skills include supervisional work and game design. I have an excellent imagination and I enjoy applying it to my work. The game industry favours game designers because they're starting to run out.

I must say, I really love this message board. Most of the members seem great too. Of what I have seen so far on the ROM hacking and game development side of things on this community, I can see that a lot of you have excellent imaginations and you will make your way successfully in the game industry if that is your dream. I'd like to congratulate you on your successful games and hacks. They are enjoyable to look at and play.

See you around.
Chris

Wait, you're saying designers are in demand? My greatest frustration in life is that nobody wants an idea person (which is what I am), everyone wants hard, calculable skills such as graphics design, programming and such. All throughout school I was never the math kid or the artist kid or the music kid, I was always the idea kid, and nobody wanted the idea kid on their science team because the idea kid had no "real" skills. The gaming industry seems to mirror that perfectly, as far as I see it. It's easier to become an a-list celebrity than it is to get into game design, from what I've seen and experienced.

So what kind of volunteer work do you do in the game industry? What companies have you worked for? Worked on any games I'd know?

You're lucky. As soon as I told my friends I'd been playing video games since I was 4, I got laughed right out of my school Worst part is, they were laughing at me because they have been playing since they were 3, and I was so stupid and didn't belong with them. I'm not kidding either.

You're lucky to have a good job like that. My school, we only learn how to program lame stuff, like a game of Pong. I mean, we all have to start somewhere, but I've been getting 96% in Com. Tech. since Grade 9. And I hate Pong

You lived in Ontario, huh? Which part? I personally live just north of Kitchener, south of Toronto. I'd really like to move out to Sudbury though. I wanna see the big nickel in real life

Well, now that I've told you my life story..enjoy your stay at the board

I was the lead manager in group projects. None of the projects were successful, so you probably would have never heard of them. I think the most popular was a fan game that was shown to Capcom known as Mega Man F1. They let us do it and it went pretty well, but we lost interest. I know some people who work in the industry... one or two people who work with Squaresoft (now Square-Enix) and a couple of others.

I lived in Barrie Ontario, which is near Toronto by about 40 minutes.

Can I assume that the videogaming industry hotspot of Canada is in Ontario? It's in Washington State here in the lower-fourty-eight.

I lived in Ontario. I live in Nova Scotia now, hehe.

Nope, not in Ontario. Quite a few business places there but the game industry is mostly situated in British Columbia, where Nintendo of Canada is located. I live next to a game design business called HB Studios (they make sports games for Playstation and stuff), but nothing too major.

This would make more sense anyway, given if Washington is the assumed videogaming hotspot. British Columbia borders it, not Ontario. My friend got a job at Nintendo of America, but it's in packaging.
