Not able to play Geometry Wars?

You know, the Xbox 360 downloadable game that everyone's given top marks to and thought was superb? Well... when there's a will, there's a way.

Grid Wars is a fan remake of Geometry Wars, and is QUITE the addictive little Robotron clone in itself. If you like fast-paced yet simple gameplay, I'd highly encourage you to give it a spin.

My top score is in the 71,000 point range, which is... OK for my first few tries I guess.

"Whoa, a Mac version. It must be destiny."

That's exactly what I typed before I found out it only crashes on me. It must be destiny. >8(
I've never even heard of Grid Wars, what's it like?

Geometry Wars is the real game, Grid Wars is the unofficial port.

It's like Robotron/Smash TV/etc. You have a ship in the center of the screen. If you have a dual analog gamepad, one stick moves and one shoots. If not, then (if you're like me) you'll control with the gamepad and shoot with face buttons. Enemies keep appearing in small to large groups and you have to blow them away while not getting touched yourself. Power-ups appear every 5,000 points.

If you use analog sticks, can you shoot in arbitrary directions, or just the regular 45º?

There was a pretty rad minigame in Ape Escape where you flew a spaceship around and could shoot anywhere like that. Since it was a minigame there wasn't a lot to it, but it was still pretty fun. I imagine a real game like that would be sweet.

I'll check this out later today, or tomorrow, or something.

I dunno, I don't have dual sticks. I think it's arbitrary and not just at 45 degree angles, since I've spread some shots using just face buttons.

Shadow sent me this game, but it started telling me my resolution was too high.

I have not played this yet.

I've only done 280,000-ish... the game's a lot funner when you remember to switch it off Hard

I can't play with Dual Analog though, my controller likes to freak out when I start playing and continuously fire in one direction, and soon there's so much crap onscreen that it takes way too long to 'turn' it back in the right direction...

After a lot of fiddling to get it to work (it won't run in full screen at all if you try to go to "Options" or start the game)...

First try, losing a total of one life and using about 3 bombs (this latest one when I was surrounded by those stupid bar things that take about 5 hits from a quad cannon to esplode)...

Then I push ESC to pause and it crashes.

Someone is missing the point of the game

I think I'd have more success if I played it with a not keyboard. I stopped playing after my second go-through, in which I scored 330,000-ish.;

I just remember starting it up for the first time and BAMF getting bumrushed within seconds... on Normal there's like a 20-second grace period before the spawns really start to speed up. Up to 780k now, black holes are funny as shit.

Managed to boost my score to the 287,000 point range. All comes down to timing and using the bombs at the absolute last moment, really.
