I'm not bi, but a friend of mine is, and it's kind of funny how most people don't believe in the bisexual thing. They think it's a front to soften the stigma of being homosexual. But what would convince people of the authenticity of bisexuality? Would bisexuals have to switch hit every other week just to keep up appearance?

I would guess if you were bisexual, you might go through phases of liking one gender more than the other. Furthermore, if you were gender blind as far as attraction goes, your decision on who to date (or more) would be determined by other factors. So how can you blame someone in that situation? If you like feature X in people, and women are more likely to have feature X, you are obviously going to date more women.

I'm married and I know I'm straight, but I can look at my own sex and think that someone is good looking or not.

About 80% of the population, according to Kinsey, can be classed in different degrees of bi-sexuality.

I myself am not too attracted to guys, not enough to feel sexual arousal at any point.

However this raises the question of the validity of bi-sexuality. I know a lot of my gay/lesbian friends look down on it, quite harshly too. They think you're either one or the other. My straight friends see it as an attention plea. I find both of these opinions to be fairly bothersome, because it negates all sorts of things.

So I've heard, "Bisexual is gay on vacation".
I'm straight all the way. I could imagine a relationship with both a guy and a girl would be quite awkward and uncomfortable. I'd stick with girls because...

A.) I'm used to it
B.) I really like vaginas and tatas
C.) I'm already engaged

Bisexuality is just as valid as hetero- and homosexuality. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant.

I'd agree with this, except I don't think any are "valid." Labeling someone like that is retarded, in my opinion.

So I was reading about Romans recently. From historical contex, it was concluded that Romans had loose, if any, perceptions of hetero and homosexuality. Rather their tastes depended on the beauty of the subject, not the gender. I'm kinda into that idea, but I've never really been with somebody of the same sex. A guy did hit on me once. He was drunk and hyper-gay.

Seems like this thread has been done.

Anyway, I don't think I could be bisexual if I tried. I'm just not exactly clear on what makes a guy attractive. It seems like every time I think I got it figured out, I find out someone is attractive or unattractive, and it throws my whole logic out of wack.

I've had my bi-curious moments and I can admit it when a girl is attractive, but I'd have to say I'm straight. Something about the opposite gender overrides anything resembling same sex attraction to me.

I have a theory, however, that all organisms are bisexual and may be drawn to one side or the other based solely on environment, be that due to ideas implanted in previous times, chemical reactions, or curiosity. Sound viable to anyone else?

I honestly don't see how somebody can be attracted to both genders at once... I dunno, being a straight male myself, but I would find it far to large of a hassle to have the chance to be attracted to EVERYBODY that I see.

And I can't really see myself wanting everybody's sex.. Not saying that gays and Bi's are like, attracted to all guys or anything... Just.. The chance to be is just alien to me. Either I would enjoy looking at a penis or a vagina, not both.

Shadic- Since you understand liking EITHER a penis or a vagina, I don't see how you can not understand liking both.

Its like saying you can like Mexican food OR Chinese food, but not both.

Sir Abomination, when Jesus came he himself ate from both the chow mein bowl and the taco plate to show his love for all cuisines of our world. Even children know this much.

I just find sexuality different than food consumption...

And it would just be awkward if I knew that I could like.. "Go head over heels," with anybody that I met...

I'm not against it for any reasons, but it's just something that I myself can't understand myself thinking. And I don't think on that level, so I guess I'm alright.

Shadic - of course they're slightly different, but the property I was basing the analogy around was preference and taste. Some people just do not like mexican food no matter what you tell them and some people love it. Just like penis.

And bi people aren't attracted to everyone they meet, just like you're not attracted to everyone you meet. They do however have a 50% better likelihood than you do going home with someone.

Yeah, that's something I hate. People have this disillusion that being bi or gay means you suddenly like EVERYONE you see/EVERYONE of the same sex. But that's obviously not true, does a straight guy like every girl he lays eyes on? Vice versa with a girl?

Not really. While a straight guy/girl might think that a girl/guy is good-looking he just doesnīt fall in love with someone just like that. There are tons of good looking people where I live and if I see a cute girl, I lokk at her for a second and then donīt think about it anymore.

Iīm straight and Iīve always been.

Whenever someone brings up the concept that bisexuality is merely homosexuality in disguise, I say quite simply, "Gren from Cowboy Bebop -- Cher from Wolf's Rain" and walk away. Or, if I want to go the Real Live Person route, "Scully from X-Files -- Johnny Depp." I personally swoon for all four mentioned, each in their own special way.

Wurl: So I was reading about Romans recently. From historical contex, it was concluded that Romans had loose, if any, perceptions of hetero and homosexuality.

Etymologically speaking, there wasn't a concept of hetero/homo/bi/a-sexuality until modern times, which is why I profess that the concept of classifiable sexuality is bogus, hence the whole topic about it.

emcee: Seems like this thread has been done.

Hence the whole topic about it :p

hammer: Anyway, I don't think I could be bisexual if I tried. I'm just not exactly clear on what makes a guy attractive. It seems like every time I think I got it figured out, I find out someone is attractive or unattractive, and it throws my whole logic out of wack.

What could possibly posess you to try to be another sexuality? I hope you don't think that's what bisexuality is; something you have to try as opposed to something inherent, like homosexuality or heterosexuality.

Shadic: I honestly don't see how somebody can be attracted to both genders at once... I dunno, being a straight male myself, but I would find it far to large of a hassle to have the chance to be attracted to EVERYBODY that I see.

I think the problem there is that you think you have to have the chance to be attracted to all women you see, and that, my good fellow, is colloquially referred to as "Raging Hormones."

Plusguy: Everyone knows that liking both tacos and chow mein is immoral and against God's word!

Yea verily.

mattp: Sir Abomination, when Jesus came he himself ate from both the chow mein bowl and the taco plate to show his love for all cuisines of our world. Even children know this much.

"You mean you guys don't believe in Robot Jesus?"
"We believe that he was built, and that he was a very well-programmed robot, but he's not our messiah."

Shadic: And it would just be awkward if I knew that I could like.. "Go head over heels," with anybody that I met...

Romantic inclinations are not neccessarily linked with sexual interests. I have several friends of both sexes who are sexually attracted to both men and women, but are only romantically interested in one. So they're romantically "straight" (would only date/marry the opposite sex) but are sexually "bi" (have sexual fantasies (read: porn) involving both sexes).

mattp: Shadic - of course they're slightly different, but the property I was basing the analogy around was preference and taste. Some people just do not like mexican food no matter what you tell them and some people love it. Just like penis.

Must...not...make crude joke...
