I was just playing through this game for the second time a couple weeks ago, and I realized just how much I absolutely love it. It's a wonderful game, I feel, with great characters, great music, great battle system, story, and everything. And the ending is one of the most touching ones I've ever seen.

The game, if you don't know, is actually a prequel to Lufia & The Fortress of Doom, which in the very first sequence actually plays out the events of the ending of Lufia II...so if you play that, you're rather spoiled. Which I did, but even so, found the ending to be incredibly touching, even the second time around. It's just that great a game, particularly with the music. As such, though, I recommend the second one first...and the first isn't as good a game either, but still worth your time, I think.

Anyone else familiar with this gem?

I have played it never beaten it tough. An excellent rpg. Love the monster system in it (Even if my monster allways ran away.).

Yeah, I beat this game several years ago. I loved the music so I have it on my computer. The abttle system was great and some of the bosses was pretty challenging.

The last battle was a joke, though, as I beat all of them easily. I´ve played and liked the 3rd game too.

This was the only video game i've played that made me show an emotion besides either frustration or contentness. It made me slightly sad.

And no I didn't cry.

Admit it. You cried.

Alright, well, not really necessary. I didn't cry either. But it's probably the closest I've ever come to crying when playing a video game. And I feel similar when I just listen to the ending theme midi from a website with them..."Love Theme" it's called...

I've wanted to beat it so many times, but I always end up quitting half way through. I've played Lufia, so the end is ruined for me. =(

I didn´t cry either and I dont even remember if I was close. One game I almost cried while playing was Phantasy Star IV.

Spoiler:
When Alys died.

Yes that a VERY good game!

But he suffer from 2 big flaw!

1. Most of the game is bugged!
You can screw the game in menu,Dual Blade shrine is totally bugged,Cave name too etc...

2.The story
There to much things who are forgetted like: (SPOILER)What happened Tia after Maxim married Selan?,she seem to have completly dissapear from the game! (SPIOLER)

But anyway this game is great!

There's nothing more great to play the real challenge 'Ancient Cave' and getting beaten by two Gold Dragons on the 96th floor - eleven hours without a chance to save

But I beat the game at least half a dozen times though, I got to the bottom of the Ancient Cave also at least three times and beat the bosses' light (well, that fight was a farce ) out.
Again, it is fun, also due to the Egg Dragon, and there is a very evil glitch which will end the fight very quickly

Warning, this spoiler contains a very ugly way to kill him. I didn'T test if this even works for regular enemies/bosses or only him. So, if you want a (low-level) challenge, don't read this:
Spoiler:

Heal the dragon with a potion, so the max amount of HP is set to this value. So only about 30 HP than 65000 HP for that Egg Dragon, hehe.

I never actually beat the game. I played through it many times when I was young, but never actually finished. I personally liked the first Lufia more, but maybe that's just me. The overall story was good and I'll have to see about finishing both games one day.

I haven't played the other Lufia games that came out for Gameboy advance and such, are they related to the first two in any way?

The one that came out for GBC is a sequel to the first one, happening again about 100 years later. It's supposed to be pretty good, but I haven't played it.

The one for GBA is supposed to be rather bad, and not actually have much to do with the larger story as a whole.

I have played Lufia: The Legend Returns and I liked it quite a lot. The battle system and to learn new attacks can be quite confusing in the beginning.

I loved the music in that game. This game wasn´t as good as Lufia II but still something that I´d recommend.
