Alright, I know that I won't be able to solve this one by the time I ret a responding post.

I'm working (or at least trying to) at making a difficulty hack for Z3. Of course, one of the most common and easiest ways to make a room harder is by adding more enemies. I've had a lot of problems with this though.

Hyrule Magic will return an error every time you try to put more sprites in a room then there were originally. Is there any way to upgrade the amount of sprites a room could hold? If not, can unused sprite slots not used in X room be used in another somehow?

There is a 16 Normal Sprite maximum per room, and I don't remember the maximum of Special Sprites, but I think it's 8 per room. I call the Special Sprites "Overlords" because they tend to be used to control normal sprites. You will not see this distinction in Hyrule Magic, but it is very pronounced in the game's code. Using Hyrule Magic limits you to the same overall number number of sprites/overlords as there are in the original game. Which means, if there are X sprites in the original, you'll have to delete one to be able to add another. So obviously if you start editing using a fresh Zelda 3 rom, you'll already be at the maximum.

There is a way to get around this limitation using hex editing and moving the sprite table and corresponding pointers.

I've never even touched a ROM without using an editor with a nice little GUI before. Sprite table... pointers... I'd love to be able to actually understand non-noob terms like these, but I have no idea where to start. I have edited hex numbers before, but the most complex thing I've ever done is change my max health in a freeware PC game.

Are there any tutorials out there that deal with hex editing Snes ROMs? I'm sure there is more that hex editing Z3 could do for me than just this, though being the ROM hacking newbie I am, I have no idea where to start.

Thanks for that Metal Knuckles, that helped me a bit. Looks like I have a long road ahead of me to figure out all this. I will, though.

I just have one more question to look for help for. SePH has apparently made a faq/guide for Hyrule Magic. (I found it linked to in this thread.) Unfortunately, the link to the PDF file is dead (either that, or angelfire is being angelfire).

Can anyone send this document to me, or provide a working link to it? I have a feeling it would be more useful than that very basic and tiny help file that comes with HM.

I have a fast web server that well... isn't a free account you have to trick VIA right clicking.

Would you mind if I mirrored this file for you, and gave you a link to it? I wouldn't want this AF link to wind up like the other...
