Cow pies to start fires but on a bigger scale? Ok... I just don't want to live anywhere near there, because of all the flies.

This will probably take more energy to research and put into production than they'll get out of it, as with most alternative forms of energy.

But I hope I'm wrong.

For some reason, I don't think the animal activists will like this. But it seems fine to me, albeit a little crude.

I was gonna make another comment about the crazy things linked there (specifically, that).

Dracoon makes an interesting point, though. How much cow crap do you think is produced on farms and just tossed out? It's probably not as rich, but in mass quantities, it could possibly be useful (aside from being fertilizer).

Very interesting, though a lot of research would have to go into this. Jeez, with all the crap they get on the farm paddocks, it would be enough to power a whole city for the day.

I wish they all this talk though would become reality, I mean nothing ever gets done. The idea is their and they talk about research and everything, but after people loose interest in it, these great idea's never happen.

Dosen't surprise me, I seen Horse manuare being used for heating up a greenhouse. And geez, Dracoon that was a lame reason. What do you think the poo goes if not to a such place?

The dump, where it is buried in the earth. Dumps are never near cities because it could be a bio-hazard.

This place can't be to far from a city, and developement would eventually come there, so instead of the place being able to be turned into a park, they'd have to spend lots of money to take it down if people don't want to be near swarms of flies.

If its to far from cities, how much gas will it take to haul a ton of shit (like 30ish dollars of energy), then you have to add in how much you'll pay the truck driver.

Smell won't be a problem, they've said that in the article, but shit attracts flies. Flies suck.

Just like recycling, people are to lazy to do this anyways.

Tossing out all the cow dung? We can't do that, the human race wouldn't survive. It's used to fertilize the soil out of which the healthy fruits and vegetables Richard Simmons convinces you to stuff in your kisser every day comes from. Isn't that a comforting thought? Man, who could have thought that being a vegetarian was so much fun? so folks, the next time you order mushrooms on that pizza from Domino's, just remember what they grew out of...

Using feces as the next energy source seems like a pretty resourceful idea. But I think I'd have a pretty hard time getting a cat turd to fit perfectly in the battery compartment of my Game Boy Advance...those things tend to vary in size in shape depending on kitty's particular mood.

Just imagine how much fun it would be to fill up your car's gas tank...

Um, wtf? Had I had food in my mouth when I saw this thread IŽd have to clean the screen by now.

But I guess I shouldnŽt be surprised. People have come up with ideas about urine as fuel.

As for the fly subject, weŽve enough flies as it is during the summer.

Isn't it the smell that attracts flies, though? No smell, no flies. It coincides well with the fact that flies hang around smelly garbage.

I doubt they use it all, though. If you have a lot of cows and few crops (I imagine a cow farm wouldn't have many crop fields), you probably have a lot of cow dung to spare. The real question is if the cost of shipping it from the farms and processing it would be worth the energy it produces.

Gulliver.

But seriously, I can imagine a bunch of people hanging out at a park waiting for dogs to poop and fight over it just so they can save on their power bill.

Eww...

Hm? I thought it was the flies that reduce the intensity of the scent. I might just be getting my various facts confused though - as I know it's flies that cause a certain food to go bad, not the food's spontanious going bad that attracts the flies.

Places I will not go when I'm older, San Fransisco. I didn't really want to in the first place, but if they are going to power stuff with dog crap, then no. That's disgusting. It'll be like Los Angeles, it'll smell like crap. I would just say no even if we ran of out energy supplies.

Read the whole article. (It's 2 pages.)

As for the odor associated with dog doo, Brinton assures there is no need for nose plugs.

"The resulting gas does not have much smell," he said. "Sometimes there is a slight egg-like sour odor in the containerized process, but this can be easily filtered out."
