Off the topic of actual Hardware or Software, I was just wondering what some people think of various persons in the ICT Industry, and if there are any that you admire or really dislike.

I admire both the Steves of Apple Computer. Both Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak appeal to me, for very different reasons though. I very much admire Steve Jobs' attention to detail, and his very well done presentations and Keynotes (compare a Steve Jobs Keynote to a Microsoft presentation sometime - the difference in presentation is astounding). Steve Wozniak is just cool.

I also admire Linus Torvalds, the inventor of Linux

Contrary to my apparent Apple and Linux zealotry however, I don't dislike Bill Gates. I dislike that Ballmer guy MUCH MUCH more.

You?

There's something about both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs that I don't like about either. Also, Steve Ballmer is just plain evil.
Linus Torvalds.... well he started off Linux (not to be confused with the GNU/Linux operating system) and maintains it still, but his attitudes and software development morals are way out of whack. The only reason Linux is free software was to make it as popular as possible.

Richard Stallman has the right ideas often, but sometimes goes to the extremes (he used to be on a crusade on passwords being evil, but now he uses them; and he doesn't have any encrypted DVDs since the use of DeCSS, libdvdcss, and similar is legally questionable in the United States). Eric S. Raymond is usually more down-to-earth than Stallman, but not always (see his articles claiming that Microsoft is the spawn of the devil); also I don't agree with the term "open source". Sure, "open source" is fine and all, but the ease of the words being used for other uses makes it not as great as free software.

Whilst I don't exactly admire Bill Gates, it is important to remember how much he does donate to charity. I don't know how much exactly, and it may not seem like much to him, but it's a good quality, I guess~

bill gates. he gives loads of money to charities, and lives a fairly normal life even though he's extremly fucking rich.

i think i read he's given like $30 billion to charities since year 2000. that's pretty fucking much, definitely compared to how much other rich people actually give.

Héctor Ruiz CEO of AMD is probably my favorite guy in the industry right now. AMD seems to be the last true innovator in the computer industry, all the other companies seemed to have turned into marketing firms.
