| Yeah, but it's his board, to one extent or another, and it would be rather inappropriate to demote him...who knows, maybe at some point he'll want to post again.
Which will, of course, herald the end of the world, as I think it's one of hte signs of the apocalypse. |

Maybe 30 or possibly 25 could handle it. The only consideration in doing this is when each member can get on. Well, I don't run anything here and I doubt anyone cares what I have to say about staff so I'll just shut up. |

| Well, this thread is mostly about fixing up the staff to decrease it in size and what not so we just naturally asumed... or I naturally assumed that you were implying that.
Zem, if you had about 4 LMs, 3 FMs, and 3 Admins which is what it would probably come down to if the board had only ten staff members, things would get too chaotic. Maybe 10 LMs, 8 FMs, and 7 Admins could probably handle everything. That would mean each LM would get 2 or 3 forums. That is what I would do and would suggest, but it's Xks decision on what's going to happen. Should be Acmlm's, but hes got that failure to even post to say what he thinks. This really isn't even something the normal users should really be a part of anyways. Whatever happens happens. |

| This board seriously does not move fast enough to justify that many moderators. You could take care of the whole thing with five or fewer full mods and then maybe one local mod for each specialty forum where the full mods might not go. The only reason to want more local mods than full mods is so that you can lay it out hierarchically on a piece of paper and end up with a nice pyramid shape.
edit: as a side note, I'm just talking about how few staff members the board could have and still run smoothly. I don't see any reason to pare down the staff until it's reached the absolute minimum. I'm just saying we are certainly not in danger of having too few staff members at the moment. (edited by Zem on 02-25-06 08:44 PM) |

| I doubt that if we ran with that few mods and admins we wouldn't always have a staff member on. It would be too risky to do that. I guess at the least you could make it off with 20, but no lower. Below that would be very hard to have work. I would have 25-30 staff members though. I agree that 40 or however many people are on staff now(excluding Acmlm) is a little more than needed. 10 is too little, WAY too little. 25 would be the ideal number to have. At least that's what I think. | |||

| Even as it currently stands, we don't always have a mod on. But really, that doesn't matter. It's very rare that a matter comes up that must be solved really quickly, so you really only need mods to come on a couple times a day...in which case you don't really need all that many.
This board has really been overstaffed almost since its inception...we're not really at a desperate point right now for losing a few, which I suppose is a benefit of being overstaffed. |

| In the end, it's better safe than sorry. And I agree, 40+ is quite a large number, but does it REALLY matter? If someone is causing problems on staff, they are demoted. It remains peaceful, and there's rarely a time when someone is acting immature and nothing can be done. And that is one of the many goals of staff, is it not? Keep the place looking good.
Losing the people we lost didn't really hurt us... it just changed things. There's a difference. I think we could still lose 5 more and be ideal. |

Case in point, no admin got around to banning him for at least... 4 hours. A full mod didnt show up for 1.5. What Im saying is that even though it is rare, crap does happen, and Id rather be able to IM 20 higher powers to take care of the problem instead of like, 5. Im not saying that we arent overstaffed for a board this size. (Thank's to you people who stay out of trouble  ) Im just saying I REALLY dont see the harm in having a few extra mods. Because lord knows that the day theyre needed is the same day theyre demoted _¬ |
