Well... life's been rough for me these past few weeks, my father suffering a minor heart attack (he's alright now), college and damn book assignments, crap like that. You can be sure to find some screens of this experimental hack on the old board, but, this time not only am I gonna be working on this and hopefully soon SMU2, but my girlfriend Alia will also be teaming up on the third installment of the SMU series.

Overworld Screen - Will have some changes in the first demo release, but for now...

Sub Map -

First two maps above - Skull Castle (Old Yoshi's Island submap) and ???? (Old Bowser's World submap).
Middle Maps - Kero Sewers (Old Vanilla Dome sub), and Space? (I know, Alia's been bugging me about that map as well. Old Special World sub).
Bottom Maps - Dyna Forest (Old Forest of Illusion sub), and Bubbly Clouds (don't ask. Old Star World sub)

Uh, nice. You and your girlfriend are awesome at overworld design.

Might I suggest adding some "window-dressing" to the kero sewer submap, like sewer pipes, or grilles.

And on the main map; is mario standing on a level tile or not? I can't tell...

These OW screenies are freakin' awesome! I have one question, though...
Why are the flowers blue in the OW?

Yeah, Alia ripped those tiles from The Legend of Zelda - Oracle of Seasons. Mario is standing on a level tile, but it's invisible.

Yeah I'll keep that in mind on the Kero Sewers sub, and as for the flowers... some tiles for the main OW were sacrificed to insert those tiles in... so for the real reason, I have no clue why I even made the flowers blue in the first place.

Alright, then. I mean, the flowers are ok, they look fine. But I'm sure you could probably change the be able to pallette if you look hard enough.
One more question: In the space OW, how will Mario be able to walk around? Will he walk over planets, or....what?

Holy Shit man! That's incredible! Not only that, but you've managed to get ramps and all into your OW. I'm very impressed.

Thanks for those who are making comments on the maps. I'll be sure to send in some screens of the first two levels once they're completed.

Alia's compained to me about that... but when we first started with the maps on this, I was in a "Kirby" mode for a month when this was started on.

... Crap! That's a good question... never thought on that, damn.... hmm.... I guess... there can be small stars that can be used as some sort of "cosmic" space walk... I'll have to think about that.

Very nice job on that! I especially like the Zelda world. I have never seen overworlds that have been so awesome. Keep up the amazing work.

It's all very square and unnatural-looking, and the different styles of the graphics contrast harshly. An easy example is the desert, which looks very bright and very weird when right next to everything else. Additionally, I have to wonder how you'll handle events, as last I checked event tiles don't work with overworld ExGFX and you seem to be using at lot of that.

Don't get me wrong, it's far better than most overworlds I've seen, but it has many problems.

Call me an idiot, but if this is called "Super Mario Universe III - The Gates of Chaos (SS)", would there a Super Mario Universe I & II ? If yes, then could one or several point out where to find such hacks? (If no, then don't answer.)

SMU 1 and 2 are both in the Hack Database here.

As for the overworld, I'm mostly impressed with the all the submaps.

Event tiles work fine with ExGFX, alastor. They only change the tilemaps, not the graphics. I've used submaps with all the layer 2 GFX files used being exGFX, and have had no problems. Layer one tiles don't work as well with ExGFX though... The L1 colours mess up...

Fair enough, but the stylistic complaints stand.

Besides that, the hack is looking incredible. If you can smoothen the gradation on some of the tiles in the overworld, it'll be near perfect!
