I'm sure there are some general fans of Gundam series on the board, but probably not enough to really deserve multiple threads devoted to any one series. So I think this should serve as a central hub of discussion for various issues, relating to how much a particular series is great/awful and why, new developments in merchandise (models, video games, etc.) new story developments for upcoming series, and the like.

It should be fun and maybe we can get others interested in what we like so much.

I have seen maybe a handful of Gundam shows.

The first one was Gundam Wing. A bit off beat and a AU entry in the franchise. I enjoyed it amazingly enough. It did get a bit boring at some point but it wasn't god awful.

G Gundam was fun the first time. Second time it was okay. "Shinning finger of holy light that burns the enemy's and makes them run in fear of my awesomness" Yeah, fun. I wouldn't take this series serious as in it is very over-the-top.

I was a big fan of Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. Loved it.

Seen a few others, not completly but partially. Most of them are win, while others are a glance and a pass.

Can't say much since I don't own any Gundam Merchandise aside from one chapter of manga of Gundam Wing which I won in a contest.

Ive seen Wing, 0080(not sure if thats the exact number but you get it), G Gundam, and a bit of seed.

I liked Wing the best, G Gundam is my second fav, and then 0080?
Anyways I really like the Wing Gundam Movie, Endless Waltz. The customizations to the Gundams was so freakin awesome!

0079 was better than I thought.

The 8th Mobile Suit Team was awesome.

GW: Endless Waltz was also awesome.

I watched Char's Counterattack yesterday, I liked it.

I watched Seed, there were many plotholes but I enjoyed it. I followed Seed Destiny, wasn't bad, but more plot holes.

Gundam Wing wasn't that bad.

Need to finish Zeta Gundam.

I guess I'll just list what I've seen etc . Chronological order or something.
Mobile Suit Gundam - Only watched like 15 episodes since getting it subbed was hard as hell "back then". It feels a bit too much like 70s mecha (not-so-good).
The 08th MS Team - <3. This is really good, one of my faves.
Gundam 0080 - Kinda entertaining I guess.. too short.
Gundam 0083 - Really cool, I like .
Zeta Gundam - Maybe I'm just too used to modern anime, but this felt like it lacked a bit of action. At least it explained a lot of story stuff that I never knew before.
Char's Counterattack - I didn't really like it.. but Nu Gundam is always cool.
Crossbone Gundam - Only read the first volume so far, but it's cool.
G Gundam - I really like this, even the story . I wouldn't say it feels like Gundam as much as a Super Robot mecha.. which is fine with me.
Gundam Wing - Repetitive hi? If it wasn't for like Deathscythe and Wing Zero I probably wouldn't have finished this.
GW: Endless Waltz - Cooler, and there's not really room for repetition in a movie (which is good).
Gundam X - Suffers from a lot of the things that happened to Wing, but it has the Satellite Cannon to make up for it. Imo worth watching only because of that weapon :p.
Gundam Seed - While the scene recycling and some clichés are kinda lame, it does have some of the coolest stuff so far.
Gundam Seed Destiny - Less scene recycling, more stuff stolen from other series, cool(er). I liked this as well, but I feel they should just stop the Seed universe now or make a time leap.

I have also watched some of Turn A Gundam, Victory Gundam and Gundam ZZ.. out of those I might watch Turn A and Victory later. ZZ is supposedly kinda bad.

Yea, Gundam forever, man. One of the last posts I remember of Skydude's was in the old Gundam Discussion thread. Back in the day. G sucks, Wing sucks, but Seed and Destiny take the cake. They totally recycle plots from Universal Century and the original Seed but totally do not follow through and I really didn't care what happened in the end but watched it anyway. 0083 was alright, but it didn't feel right, and Gato was not a cool antagonist. The only thing I really liked about 0083 was the first opening song.(The Winner) 0079 and Zeta are my favorites. ZZ was not as good as it should've been, but the second half of the show along with some of the great mecha designs(minus the gundam motorcycle thing) almost made up for it.

I honestly still need to finish Victory, X, and Turn A. But I've been interested in studying the series since I was 11. I have not been let down.

The only just organization in all of Gundam is AEUG...and maybe League Militaire(didn't watch all of Victory yet.)

The only series I haven't seen at this point is ZZ, past the first few episodes. A lot of manga and the like I haven't read either, but as far as animation goes, I've seen pretty much all of it at this point.

I really recommend Victory and X to anyone...Zeta's awesome, but everyone knows that...these two are, I think, the most underrated UC and AU series, respectively.

Yea, they are the most underrated. People seem not to like the mecha designs of either...

Although both titles have some of the most open ended battles, as some of us know. Eh, Sky?

0079- Good. Its the original so you gotta respect that
0080- depressing, as far as i remember.
0083- GPO2A. That's all i have to say about it.
08th MS team- amazing.
Zeta- some of the coolest UC mecha designs. haven't seen much of it to say otherwise.
ZZ- See above.
F91- Crossbone Gundam kicks ass.
G- Awesome, if you don't look at it as "Gundam." If you look at it as a super Robot show its really quite awesome.
Wing- Eh, its what got me into Gundam. I like the mech designs... but you can give the pilots anything and they'll tear shit up. Plus yaoi fangirls *shudder*
Endless Waltz- See above, only with even more badass mecha.
X- I haven't seen much... but i really love this series.
Turn A- See above.
SEED- eh. Its alright. Not great, but not terrible either. It was SUPPOSED to be an alternate interpretation of the OYW, i believe. Either way, its got some cool mecha, and hot girls.
SEED Destiny- Shittier than SEED. But it has Luna, and my favorite UC mecha (Gouf <3) so it wins.
Astray- Awesome. Lowe Gear is the best thing to come out of Cosmic Era.

Crossbone Gundam wasn't in F91.
In my opinion, the only good mecha were the deathscythe and the sandrock. Namely because of their originiality. Wing was just stupidly powerful and Heavy Arms was way too limited.(ammo)

I was definitely a fan of the Deathscythe, in both its original and upgraded incarnations in the series. I didn't really like any of the new Gundam designs in Endless Waltz (other than Heavyarms), though the non-Gundam new MS (Serpent and Tallgeese III) were nice. I was also a fan of the Shenlong and the Altron. Sure, the extending arm gimmick was done by the Dragon Gundam already, as were the flamethrowers (which were somehow used in space, too...), but it was good.

My single favorite moment in Wing would have to be when the D-Hell and Altron are first unleashed on the lunar base. Just badass, really.

There was never a live-action series. There was, however, a live-action movie, in G-Saviour, widely regarded as one of the worst things Gundam to date...made in English, too, though I think Canadian rather than US studios. While it's pretty bad, as a Gundam film, as a general sci-fi film I've certainly seen worse.

Although G-Saviour is pretty bad, the Gundam in it is really cool.
Also saying that Heavyarms is limited with ammo is a bit silly, Wing Buster (or whatever) with like 3 shots? Sure the shots make stuff happen (and he has a saber), but it's all too similar to a 100 energy attack in SRW. It's almost as if the Gundams in Wing were made to be in that game.

30 seconds of firing and heavyarms is done. The same amount of firepower is basically used in one shot from the buster rifle. And heavyarms had no melee weapons. So it really paled in comparison to the rest. Which was a really stupid idea. When it comes to skill, hell, the ZZ kids could take on the wing boys no problem.

Well, Heavyarms did have the knife, which it used to pretty good effect. I think the Leopard from X struck me as a much better done "heavily-armed" mech, perhaps partially because of the pilot.

As for the buster rifle, it's not really as limited as that. As I understand it, it can do 3 of those full-power shots, but can be used as effectively a normal beam rifle for many more shots.

Even if it had a knife, it really wasn't all that balanced. At least the Roby's piloting skills with the Leapord consisted more of just unloading on the enemy.

Another thing I liked about Gundam, especially with 0079 and Zeta, is that you really don't know who's gonna be killed. You always wonder when someone's sortie is their last. And has anyone else noticed that newtypes lead love lives akin to those of immortals from Highlander?

Spoiler:
Amuro-Lalah, Beltochika, Chan... Char-Lalah, Reccoa(?), Rezin... Kamille-Four, Fa

I didn't say it was balanced...just that it had a melee weapon, which you said it didn't. And Roby was certainly a much more interesting pilot to watch, such that the Leopard became one of my favorite MS from the series, unlike Heavyarms, which just isn't that great (the regular Heavyarms and Sandrock are the only Gundams that didn't get a 1/100 scale model release).

0079 isn't that bloody, not too many people die, and even in Zeta, most of them are in the last few episodes, with a few notable exceptions. You want real uncertainty as to who's going to survive (though I suppose in a way it's often knowing someone will die and trying to figure out who), look at V Gundam. I think Tomino was off his antidepressants writing that one.
