Greetings, SFers (and by the odd chance you never been around, welcome to the Story Forum)

Synopsis
Southern Light
In the Rugged Mountains.
Rufus' Hideout
Crystal Forest
Reunion in a Secret Tunnel!
From the Mountain to Southern Light to Angel Lake

Sidenote: This story's been kinda itching away at me, the more I think about it, the more I want it to see the light of day. Why? Probably because I wanted some new characters of mine to get some light. Or maybe just another story to fall back on.. Or perhaps another attempt at making a story that's easy to get into.

While the Western Tale (Shameless Plug!) is a rather open ended story, this one isn't. It's meant to be like the old RPG-styled stories we had long ago around here. Meaning I'm expecting chatty behavior, random banter, hell, even one lined posts with just a response. If this concept seems strange to you.. GET USED TO IT. That's what this story's for. If someone ain't responding to you, then just move on. If the story itself don't seem to move along, don't worry, I'll be sure to give it a push.

By the way, I don't mind if you guys come up with with your own little subplot for your characters. I encourage it. *nod nod*

Setting:Well.. it's in a different universe. What kinda era? Uh.. well.. It's a fantasy setting. ;

Rules: I still don't like saying rules.. Ah, I'll just call it stipulations. There isn't very much, really.. basically, it's just this: if you're gonna have magic powers or know fighting techniques, they will have to require the aid of iron omes (physical) or crystal omes (magical). If anyone knows what that's referring to, please hush, or speak to me privately. Anyways... it's like.. some kinda rock that's in you, or attached to you somewhere. Like, if you want to be able to do a hadoken, you have to be an iron ome user. If you want to cast a thunderbolt, you'd have to be a crystal ome user.

------------------------------

The sun's rays poured through the Ice Cap Mountains, stirring life from its slumber for another day on the sailing island of Neo Grape Gardens.

Neo Grape Gardens was the remnant of an ancient civilization. Some say the massive landmass was actually a giant ship, most people don't care. A newcomer could find it hard to believe it was a ship, what with the beautiful landscapes, the snow capped mountains, and the enormous lake that exists in the center of the island. The island's many mysteries brought many people, whether it was to learn about life, or discover what treasures may have been left behind.

The island was discovered almost two decades ago, but people from the mainland have already managed to form a thriving village on the southern tip, next to what seems to be a lighthouse. The village was called the Southern Light, no doubt after the lighthouse.

Well, no one knows if it's really a lighthouse, since one cannot enter it, but it lights up every so often.

The village was a lively place, with plenty of locations to go to. Commerce, which consisted of a bakery, an inn, a weapon and armor shop, and others, was located near the northern exit. There was a large fountain located at the center, a popular spot for young couples to meet and for the local crime fighters, the Great Guardians, to reherse their new way of stopping trouble makers.

Closer to the lighthouse was a church, a hospital, and ironically enough, a graveyard. And stranger yet, between all three of those locations was a children's playground, with a slide and a swing.

Today was livelier than usual. Last night, there was a pillar of light coming beyond Angel Woods. There was an old legend that spoke of the "Return of a shining savior when light rises from the grand lake".

"Yaaaaahooooo!"

Everyone was so caught up with talking about the light that they paid no attention to the scruffy looking tanned man in a straw hat that was running through the city, followed by a big, black, wolf-like dog with a girl on its back.

"Lucas, please come quick. We need you for a moment."

Lucas: Alright. Arminas, please meet me by the central plaza.

Arminas: Hey! Wait a moment! ... Damnit.

Arminas was new to the village. He was also dressed a bit strangely, with his blue tunic, black leggings, and blue bandana. The only normal attire he seems to have is just the soft leather boots.

Arminas: Tch. I don't have time to be waitin' around. I need to rescue Allison now.... Oi! Anyone know where's the freakin' plaza?

"This is going to be trouble..."

The voice is an aged baritone, coming from a male Drow in a long blue robe, black leather gloves, and the tips of black leather boots peeking out the bottom of the robes. In his left hand is a long black iron staff, with a curl at the the top, holding what looks like a larger amythist crystal. Intricate arcane patterns are visible on the robe when the sun strikes at the correct angle. A black leather of medium size is on his belt, not looking particularly full at all. His emerald green eyes, unlike most Drow, shine with...dare we say...benevolence...? It is an aura that is unbecoming of what a Dark Elf usually is.
About the only thing that does *not* scream to the mind "wizard" is the ornate brass-handled rapier at his left side, with a carved-bone grip.

He stands next to a fishmonger's stand; his eyes follow the black lupine dog, and then turn to the blue-bandanaed man, almost as if he were attempting to pressure the man into noticing him. He leans more heavily on his staff, now holding it with both hands.

"...but this could lead me to discover more about the nature of The Weave...and maybe even get a way back home...."

The dust in the plaza swirled as the wind whipped through the town center, almost as a greeting to the new traveller who had entered the village. Like others who had arrived following the great flash of light, he had a determined look in his eyes, the eyes of a man who had seen much, but still reflected youth. He seemed, however, to be somewhat nervous, as if the thrill of the coming adventure was tinged by anxiety at finding the answer to a question he had been asking himself for quite some time, not really sure he wanted the response that would come.

"This does seem to be the only settlement. I would have expected more of a reaction based on the dire warnings the guild in Temir had talked about. I suppose this makes things easier."

The traveller would be unremarkable in most of the places he tended to frequent, but here he stood out. The bright sun reflecting off the water of the town center's fountain caused him to squint his deep blue eyes, and as he turned away his raven hair, perhaps a bit too long but hardly necessitating a cut, tossed about before coming to rest on the cloak he wore. The cloak itself was musty, speaking of many miles walked, a deep red which would appear black under lesser lighting. As it was, the color stood out amid the dull tans and browns worn by most of the townspeople. The traveller kept the cloak fastened tightly about him even as he reached to sip from his hip flask and looked furtively about. Nothing seemed particularly out of the ordinary, which worried him more than a horde of monsters would have. With those, he thought, dispatch brough security...here, the right course of action might be more complex. Not one to rush, though, the traveller lounged next to the fountain and waited to see who else would show up to investigate.

It was cold.

"It's always the same..."

He was drenched.

"This same feeling."

Being forced from his sleep, it had happened so many times before, when would he be able to sleep forever?

"Fine."

Ark woke up, his head breaking the fountains water as he stayed sitting down in it. He drapping clothes would be dry when he got out and his spear would be around here somewhere. He noticed the man sitting by the fountain and thoughts rushed through his mind.

"These people are strong enough without me, why am I here?"

The Dark Elf in blue raises an eyebrow, seeing the man emerge from the fountain. He walks away from the fishmonger, his head tilted to one side. A few loose hairs dancing in the wind...his emerald green eyes looking the soaked man over scruntizingly. His briefly dart to the red cloak, to his own robes, back to the red cloak, and then return to the drenched person.

"Um...what *are* you doing?"

Arminas: Grr.. Bloody.. WILL SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE THE CENTRAL PLAZA IS?!

Townsperson: It's right there, you loudmouth.

Arminas: Oh.. Uh.. thanks.

Arminas ran his hand through the red hair that stuck out from his bandana. He wasn't feeling too cool when finding out how close he was. He let out a sigh and walked towards the tiny distance to the central plaza.

Arminas: That guy better be there...

Meanwhile, a tiny girl, probably less than half the size of the Dark Elf that walked towards the fountain, appeared right infront of the Drow.

Girl: Hey! You! You look like a powerful ome user!

The little girl wore a pink, droopy hat, one that a fairy would probably use. She had enormous metallic gloves, and enormous metallic boots. Her yellow skirt and pink shirt seemed to be the right color, however.

Girl: I'd like to give you the honor of joining my party! Treasure hunters and ome users are meant to be together!

((So do we have to chose iron or crystal omes, or can we have some of each? Sky's style has always been a mix of sorts...))

Sky cocked an eyebrow at the little girl, and smiled, as he wondered how the Drow would react to something like this. Turning to the man emerging from the fountain, he reached into his cloak and somehow produced a rather large textile that probably shouldn't have fit in the space he reached.

Sky: Would you like a towel? What were you doing in the fountain anyway?

OOC: Omes...?? I'm...not familiar with the term. I suppose that's some manner of spellcasting, but...not sure.

The Drow blinked rapidly, clearly confused. He raised an eyebrow...his eyes flicking towards the man in red for a second as the towel is pulled out...mutters almost inaudibly "(...either has a portable hole or a bag of holding, or a close equivilent....")

He turns to the little girl.

"Um...I've heard many terms for using The Weave...magic, mystical arts, elements...but never 'omes.' Is...this what you were referring to?"

His right hand comes forward from being at his side...and as if from nothing, an incandescent blue sphere no bigger than a small marble grows. It sits for a few seconds, before shattering into a small cascade of blue-white sparks...as he had just cast a spell.

Sense Motive (nothing clear-cut...can't get clear answers when the spell's effects aren't consciously noticeable, 'cept for the obvious lighting issues. All this is gonna tell him is if she's telling the truth, if she's trustworthy, and if she's hiding something...no specifics on any of the above)

His eyes turn in their sockets for a second as the man with the blue bandanna enters the plaza.

"No thanks."

Ark stood up and stepped out of the fountain, completely dry. His strange appearence in the fountain was probably preferred to his very weird clothes. A light crystal blue cloak over dark tan cloth. His pants turned to a vibrant red and his tunic became a brown. The cloak slowly faded into a deep brown. He looked around and tried to figure out what he was doing here.

"Treasure hunters? Are they real here, or are they fakes too?"

Ark spoke to himself, hardly looking at anyone around him.

A crotchety old voice rang out...

???: "Ohhh, I believe they're quite real, sonny."

There was no way you could determine his exact age. The best way to describe it would just be "older than you, your mom, and your dad combined". His face was grizzled and wrinkled to the point where it'd be hard to tell whether he was blinking his eyes or having a seizure. His eyebrows were fuzzy white, his crown was bald, and what was left of his hair was a snowy white color. All in all, you kinda got the feeling looking at him that a light breeze was probably going to undo him.

Regardless, the old monk's body was covered (protected from said wind, I guess) by a long brown robe which shuffled against his sandaled feet as he strode slowly over to the little girl and the soaked man. He hacked and coughed in time with his steps as the tip of a wooden cane tapped the ground with each press of his left leg.

"I've been in the business for a good, loooooong time. There's gold in them thar hills! Well, not gold, but certainly a lot of goodies for anyone intrepid enough to go through. Or at least crazy enough. Why, there was this one long story I could tell about an underground gas main, a furbolg, and a fried egg and cheese sandwich..."

Taking on the traditional NPC fashion, the old man didn't even bother to introduce himself as he began his ramblings...

Sky withdrew the towel and put it back whence it came. His eyes perked up at the mention of treasure. He had come as a guardian of peace, mostly. The guild at Temir was concerned some ancient evil was going to be released. But then, they seemed to feel that way if one of them was having gas, so the magewarrior couldn't really be certain this was something to be concerned about. But treasure certainly wasn't against his instincts either. Especially because, as he'd found out before, treasure often brought out the worst in people.

Sky: What do you know about this treasure, old man? Sounds like if it were there, it would be taken already. What's the catch?

OOC: It's not too late to join in, is it? Also, could you please elaborate on "Omes" a bit more? I'm not familiar with the term.

"Aah... Why does everything always happen to me?!"

Mumbling to himself about his late run of bad luck, Snipes marched into the town he'd seen from a while off. Shaking his head, Snipes loked around for someone to ask where (when?) the hell he was.

"Old man, if you fry eggs you're wasting food. Scrambling them will be more filling."

Ark said harsh, more of an attempt to make him shut up than to join the conversation. He held a hand towards the sky and simply waited in that position. He wanted to summon his new weapon, but it might take a while more this time.

((I explained what omes are in my intro post It's kinda like.. attaching stones into your body, or putting them inside. I kinda left that open It makes your hands all glowy when you activate it.

As for mixing them, yes, that's alright, however, it won't be as strong, obviously. Not everyone has the ability to switch, and you'd be basically stuck if you manage to be in between.))

Girl: Yes yes! I don't recognize that ability, but it's clear you're a crystal ome user!

She performed a bow. It was quite apparant that this little girl was different than most, seeing as how reddish orange leaves were protruding around her neck. The color resembled the thick strands of hair that escaped her long hat.

Girl: I am Lily Lilitin, treasure hunter extrodinaire. I am on the quest for the Everlight! An object that is said to hold extrodinary power!

Whether or not this item existed, it seemed like she believed in it.

Meanwhile...

Arminas looked around, searching for Lucas.

Arminas: Dammit, where is...

Just then, a boy, probably around the age of thirteen, Arminas assumed, approached him. The boy brushed his shoulder-length black hair to the side, causing Arminas to quirk a brow when he noticed the crimson colored eyes, and the fact that the kid's skin seems a bit pale...

???: Hello, there. Is this your first time in Southern Light? Those gauntlets of yours.. Those aren't given to normal civilians, are they?

Arminas responds by turning his head to the side.

"Everlight..."

It sounded familier to Ark for some reason. He knew what it was, what it could do, but was he right? Was he dragged out of his sleep for this? Such a small matter? There had to be something more to it...

???: So? Are you strong or are you not?

Arminas: Who gives a damn?

???: I care. I really want to know. I need to know. I can't stand it when there's something I don't know. You know?

Arminas turns around, and keeps looking around. A smirk runs across the boy's face.

Lily: I don't let such minor details bother me.

The boy takes his hands out of his black jacket's pockets.

???: Anyone wanna take me on? If you can beat me, I'll give you fifty thousand Shines!

The townspeople all immediately stopped talking. The boy turns around and points at Arminas.

???: .... That's what this person just said!!

Arminas: The hell!?
