Yea, but that's lame.

Sides, what would be the point of that? We already had threads where you could only say one thing in them and those sucked. This would likely be the same thing.

Well, my vision of them is not really related to "posts." It would be like, this user has comments from these users. This is what these users have to say about this user. And they would say stuff like 'this guy is a bad dude !!!!!!! he could rescue the president.'

...

or, you know, more interesting things.

I could do that AND more if we DIDN'T limit it.

Yeah, no one said they'd have anything to do with posts, hiryuu was just making a simile.

Anyway, you can't argue with others regarding their comments at their comments that way.

There are private messages...

I dunno, I think you guys are imagining something completely different from what I'm imagining. I was thinking, if you had something semi-permanent you'd like to say about a user, you'd put up a user comment. And it would be like, this is what this user thinks about this other user.

I am horrible at articulating things.

My opinion on the matter?

My thoughts on what the yes people (minus zem) are thinking: I don't like it. What else is there to say, other than "HEY THIS PERSON IS THE SHIT" or "THIS PERSON IS SHIT FUCKYUO FAGGORT"? There's not much more that one person could say of another. A thread-like format isn't user comments, it's user discussion.

My thoughts on Zem's idea: I like it. It would be like a review on Amazon, or some sort. Just allow one comment per user commenting, and make it future-proof (editable). You've said your positive or negative thing, and you can go your merry way. This could help to see who the cool people are (YD would be the bees knees due to all the positive comments about her), or the untrustworthy people are (perhaps a plagiarist in Modern Art?).

Now, if you want a userdiscussion.php, kindly make another request for it. Thanks.

Edit: For future reference, I did vote no. The above is if something will be implemented. I would rather not have them at all.

It's still pointless, wheather it's one comment or many. The ideal applications a single comment limit would be like:

"xxx helped me with my SMW overworld"
"yyy is an intelligent debater"
"zzz is a bumbling moron, he needs to learn to read threads"

Things like that; that describe in other people's words what they think a person's strengths and/or weaknesses are.

Multi-comment style (like on the ice board if I recall correctly) would be like this -

yyy - "hey xxx, can u help me with my SMW hack"
xxx - "yeh sure, what is it"

...and so on. Like a miniature thread for things that are too short for a PM and too pointless for a proper thread.

The only practical use I see is the second option, where people basically disscussed personally with the user. Though that really wouldn't be "comments" per se, it would be more of a chat room based around a specific person.

OVERALL, I really don't see what could be done with comments that couldn't be done with a PM. If it exists, fine. If it dies, fine.

EDIT: I started making this post about 20 minutes back or so, so it's outdated. Sorry

Certainly not necessary, and I have some of the same opinions of them that I do of the ratings in general. While they can be a nice feature, they are at best benign, I feel, and could potentially cause some drama as people get upset by them. Basically, cool in some cases, but not worth the potential trouble.

Yeah, there's none of that here already.

Really, though, what's the big deal? Can't people already insult each other right in the threads? What difference does it make if there's one more place to do it?

Besides, people will barely use it, atleast after the intial novelty wears off. There's an option to rate users too, but how many people actually have ratings?

So it may be useless, but also harmless. I say go for it.

Yes. This is what I was trying to describe. I am for at least trying this out. However, I think there's a good chance it'll lead to drama. As I noted earlier, this is part of the reason I'm for it. ;D

So... I guess it's a bad idea, technically, but I'd like to see it.

Well, It all depends on the person making the comment. I'm all for it, so long as there is a way to moderate them... Users deleting comments is okay, but not blocking commenters. As far as I'm concerned, it's worth a try.

At least you'll know who to ignore while you post. I miss having user comments like in Tekhacks (RIP). Of course we'll get newbies, but you can always ban them because they're too stupid to figure out how to use proxies.

Yeah, exactly.

The only way I would support this is if every user had control of their comments, able to delete them, or disable comments altogether.
Or maybe... just staff should be able to edit them, but all users should be able to disable comments, in case someone is being a dick while staff isn't around (or if they just don't want comments).
And if people get out of hand, will there be punishment?

Sounds fair to me. I wouldnīt abuse this function anyway but damn those who does that.

As long as we have restrictions of what people are allowed to write. Or maybe thatīs a bad idea.

I suppose if moderators can take care of harassment, then that would be fine. So long as the moderators are willing to take on the additional task
