Now now guys, no need to go crazy...

28) Before you begin editing levels, be sure you make the grey cement blocks square, and edit the castle gfx so those blocks are square. This will help ALOT with water.

29) Be sure if you use donut bridges, the ropes don't just hang in mid-air.

#29 EXAMPLE:

Much better than floating in mid air. Yes, all this my own custum stuff.

30) Shading helps. Edit some of the old GFX a bit so they look more 3D-ish. (Such as the old SMW cloud for example.

#30 example:

See the cloud? alot better than the old one, right?

You have to dedicate a lot of time to your hacks, legoman. You have 10 hacks !, and all of them are weird and bad.

31) Dedicate your free time to only one hack, not all.

32b: This is because blocktool is fricken' slow with too many blocks. Wait for blocktool omega, then you can disregard this rule if you use that </shamelessplug>

33. Standard worlds (fire, ice, water, etc...) alone WON'T cut it. Make an intereseting world, or make it stand out. Theme your worlds on something else than those standard themes.

Try holding B while running across.

I've actually tried that, belive it or not.

Yeah. Legoman, before making "Extrem [sic] Island World Missio [sic]", read some basic mapmaking tutorials. Oh, and try your hacks before releasing so that you can make sure that there are no graphical glitches or that one level isn't impossible to complete. 'kay? I look forward to your next hack. Playable, maybe. Utterly laughable, probably.

If you hold Y and run, you can cross 1-block-wide gaps. I've done that before, so I know you can make it across those gaps.

You can only run across one-block wide gaps if you pick up enough speed to, otherwise you can't.

If you're having problems running across one block gaps even while running (and picking up the necessary speed), just use the spin jump. It's a lot more controlable than a normal jump. Sheesh.

Incidently, if the boost block is used, you can run across a huge gap. I forgot how big said gap was, though.

Rifk, newb x 2 for sucking at Mario World. Hehehe!

For the good hacks, the difficulty levels are indicated when posted. You can very well expect these "death traps" in them. So if you're that intolerant of hard hacks, don't play them.
The slopes are avoidable still. Merely an obstacle.

34) No psycadelic palettes that'll burn eyeballs and make children cry.

35) Don't post .smc files!!! They are illegal! (I cannot believe no one has posted that yet)

36) Don't post .bmps of your screens, they take waaay too long to load. Instead, use .pngs.

37) Don't make a thread about your non-existent hack. "I am going to make a hack..." BULLSHIT! NO ONE CARES!

Everybody's forgotten the most important rule:

38) You can ignore any of these rules, as long as your hack is still awesome.

I mean something ALOT harder, something like this:

x*OOO
xxx OO
xxxxxx
^*xxxx

* - Note block

^ - Spike(s)

O - Normal ground

x - Space

So you'll have to time it EXACTLY so you go between the spike and note block. As you also should know, you have horizontal speed when the block is in the "stretch" state (about to fling you away.) In that state, you can hit the spike and die. If you don't move so much you'll collide with the down side of the upper note block, so you'll get shoved onto the spike. And die. K?

I think I absolutely agree with that.
Some of this advices are helpful, of course, but in some way this list is also a limitations list, some kind of "make what we want" - no, you should do what you want. If you start hacking SMW, the chances are good, that you have some kind of vision or whatever of what you are planning to do...so, make your own thing.

33. If you know how to use SNESSOR, custom music is really cool. (Someone needs to put Super Metroid music and gfx in their hack)

Actually your wrong. I know how to do it proporly.

In order to run across 1-space gaps without falling off EVER, hold down the run AND jump button and go across. the game thinks you were trying to jump onto the platform and jumps you up on to it, keeping you from falling... unless you release either of the two buttons or stop moving.

You shouldn't fall off 1 or 2 gaps if you are at full speed (ie. outstretched arms)

I don't mean to go off-topic, but stop bashing legoman for trying to make a good hack. He's new to it. I'm new to it, shit. I -still- don't know how to insert custom blocks and gfx, nor how to make them.
