Recently I've been using my laptop in my room more and more, and since I got an external Hard disk I've been using the Laptop's DVD dribve to transfer documents, videos and MP3's (already burned on to DVD-R's), by copying them straigfht from the DVD-RW drive (Which happend to be E), to the F drive which is the external, removable hard disk. Recently I've noticed more and more errors coming up, mostly a "Cyclic redundancy error" which meant I had to start over again copying. But usually once I restart, no errors occur. and then tonight, I transfered a DivX film, and left it to run, when I came back in to chekc on it, Windows said that the job had to be stopped because op a Device I/O error. Now according to Windows, my drive is workking fine but it will no longer recognise any disks CD or DVD, it'll just make some noise,(Speed up and slow down) and then show the DVD/CD as empty (though I know it's not)It's the same with DVD-Video disks, in that after trying to serach the disk it'll show it as empty.

So, any solutions? I THINK the comp is still under 12 month warranty, but if not, shall I replace the drive?

Allow me to give you some sound advice for laptops.

Laptop parts are very very expensive. If you even SUSPECT a part might be broken while the waranty is still active, replace it.
