My first hack, which I started working on a week ago, Clockwork Adventure stars a new look Toad (See screenies), who is tasked with retrieving the seven magic gears which were stolen by the birdos and hidden throughout the land of Clockwork Island. Thanks to Peter_ac for his SMB3 Graphics and Smallhacker for his fantastic tools

Hey, it's Toad. Always liked that guy. One thing you should do, though. Remove the exclamation point in Toad's name above the lives counter. It'll look better without it (considering it is centered, of course).

I was considering removing the !. I am still trying to hack the GFX file that contains the original graphics that were used for marios name. I am also working on the overworld and importing some graphics from SMB2. I will have a demo soon.

EDIT: Zachio, the toad with the red coat has fire power.

The status bar is kinda bright... It has no soft colors. Might want to change that a bit?

I kinda like the white hud though. Only time it could cause problems is on a white bg.

Not with black outlines. Hooray for a readable HUD!

But the exclamation point is the best part. Anybody can be Toad. That dude from The Wind and the Willows, one of those thousands of dudes just hanging around who are somehow different from the one guy you played as in SMB2, Toadsworth, the Battletoads, anybody. I could walk up to somebody and say, "Hey! I'm Toad!" and everybody'd be "Whatever, freak."

But, now, "Toad!" is charismatic. You leave people wondering. If you say "Hey, I'm Toad!" do you mean your name is Toad! period or you name is "Toad"!? See, when using it with a question mark it gets even better.

But that's not all. Just see what it's like to say Toad! with an interrobang. Toad!‽ Yeah. That's awesome.

I'd have to say that the choice of an exclamation point is far more impressive than all your rips combined. I've seen all those rips done by others for other hacks, but I've never seen "Toad!" before. That's how lame All-stars rips are. Boo.

Uh, the tree in the third shot sort of floats over the ground. And the entire third shot is pretty boring anyway and the ground looks really out-of-place with the background. I suggest you either change the background or change the foreground to have more (non-floaty) trees.

Actually, you'll find that if you play the level, everything flows quite nicely. And dont have a go at me about things frloating above that grass, Nintendo made the same mistake in the Snes version of SMB3. If Nintendo can get away with floating foliage, then so can I.

I like this, but I agree with Alastor....the status bar is an eyesore. You need some darker colours (I personally prefer dark red )

I like the concept of Toad, and the level design. Those look good.

All in all, nice work so far

That's BS. First off, Nintendo coded the whole system and it was most likely rushed for a deadline. You, who have all the time in the world and edit only levels and graphics, should not be making their mistakes. Second, Nintendo's made so many mistakes in Super Mario World that I can't even say I like the game. I bet Nintendo's mistakes have bothered others, too. So don't freaking make them.

Alright, alright, I'll get round to fixing the trees at a later stage, but it isn't very high on my list of priorities for this hack. Btw, expect to see a demo and some more screenies soon.

The hack looks pretty okay to me, Clockwork JB. It's great to see that Toad is in there.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Chris. Unfortunately, there's still lots that needs doing, but as always, school, work, family, friends and all that comes first. The list goes something like this:

Toad sprites - 85%
Overworld - 0%
Enemy sprites: 90%
BG and FG tilesets - 27% (Worked that one out with calc)
ASM Hacks - 45%
Misc GFX - 10%
Demo Release - 85%

I personally don't see what the "it looks okay" thing is based on. Apparently the graphics don't suck but I know nothing of the level design except that it isn't worse than wario world.

I maintain that screenshots are not an accurate way to judge a hack.

Well, you can judge the hack for yourself shortly. As I stated previously, the demo is about 80% done. I'm working on it this very moment.
