More like check out the latest TIME ATTACK for Demo World: The Legend Continues. Which is fake, boring, and only slightly amusing. Perfection gets boring after a while, and besides, he used an emulator to help him instead of playing it the normal way like a real man.

Funny how you two jump to conclusions so quickly based on the fact that it's tool-assisted (and in no way masked to look otherwise, unlike that one SMB3 video that went into question for a month or two before the author said that it was tool-assisted and subsequently released a Famtasia emulation movie file to prove it wasn't photoshopped or anything).

asdf: I'd like to see you beat Demo World as fast as possible using a real controller and whatnot (bonus points for being on a TV screen, weather you outputted sound and video from your computer or you had a SNES cart to flash). Actually that would be quite possibly more entertaining if you don't die during it.

So anyway I'm off on a rant again, I'll stop. But I'd recommend to stop bashing TASes just because they're .. tool-assisted. Many of them suck, yes I agree, some of them are good (seen the 16-star SM64 run?)

It's a tool-assisted speedrun. Time attacks are non-assisted and usually played in games that have a time attack mode.

Are tool-assisted speedruns fake?
Fake means something that is not what it is claimed to be. A glass jewel could be a fake diamond.

The makers of tool-assisted speedruns do not claim the movies to be recordings of real-time playing ? thus they are not fake.

-------------

There is nothing wrong with using an emulator. In many cases, using an emulator can actually take longer; it is very difficult to spot errors that cost you fractions of a second... not to mention, being able to go back and do it again means you can make many parts less boring.

I suppose you two are the kind of assholes who would deny the amounnt of work that went into making two very beautiful, very impressive runs, without even watching them, wouldn't you?

Let's see you beat X and X2 at the same time... with or without 'savestates'.

Oh, shut up, X. I do not find cheating to be impressive, no matter what work went into it. It takes no skill whatsoever; all it requires is that you have done meager studying on what is possible, and have no life and can allot whatever time is required to complete it. I really couldn't care less how much work went into it, because it's still cheating.

As to what they say about what's qualifies something as being fake, a simple venture to dictionary.com proves that wrong; yes, that's one definition, but to say that something that does not fit one definition of a word but fits many others can no be described with that word is... Very, very stupid.

End of story.

Tool-assisted, eh? WouldŽve been more impressive if heŽd done it without that.

But then again, people are to wussy to do that. Not like IŽd been able to do it myself, though.

Because obviously there are more than 2 people in the world who can play SDW on a real console, and lots of them would be able to (or willing to) do a speedrun of it. (Just a note: It is impossible to have a NON-tool-assisted speedrun on something that you can't play on a real console.)

Haven't watched it yet, but had to put in my 2 cents.

Check the forums on that site, though. There are non-TAS'd runs (by that, doesn't use slowdowns or re-records) there, it's just they don't get published. They're to a forum by themselves.

I was kinda impressed by the Gradius II run without dying...otherwise I really couldn't care if it's been 'cheated' or whatever. It's entertainment...not a statement of superiority.

I'd do it, but I don't know where my SNES is. Plus, I don't have a flash cart.

And my reasoning aganist Tool-Assisted speed runs is that they are boring to watch. I can respect the work that goes into them. But when it comes to watching it, it's all "suceess! suceess! ultra mega sucess 9000!" Seeing what is possible without human error and with perfect reflexes just isn't as enjoyable as it is cracked up to be. And yes, I have seen both videos that you posted, Xkeeper. I was amused by the X and X2 run. There are some moments that bring about a "whoa", but other than that, it's boring.

OK, on the speedrun thats like 20 minutes, he dies in the second level, and in the 100% speed run, he jumps in a hole in the 3rd level.

make sure you're using the right SNES9x -- the normal one won't work.

Personally I've never gotten Snes9x to work with movie files even when it's the right emulator If you know how to use BitTorrent (hint: bittorrent.com) and have a good internet connection, you can download pre-compiled AVIs. They take up a few dozen megabytes (on large hard disks of today, it's hardly a problem), but they also have the ability to be rewound/fastfowarded in an instant

And by the way, this thread wasn't intended as a "Are TAS runs legimate, entertaining, cheating, etc?" thread. It was intended to comment on what I thought was an awesome TAS. So if you'd like the former... no one's stopping you from starting a new thread.
