I know for a fact our buses suck. The drivers even complain about them it's that bad. The fare's cheap, though, for $1. I believe the transfers only work 1 hour after they were issued. I know I could spend 10 bucks and get 20 rides on a ticket if I had my college student ID present. That was nice, since that alone would last me about 5 weeks or more.

I had to bus quite a bit the last semester I went to college. It ended up getting as complicated as a MWF being a bus from the transit to the college then back to the transit and walk six blocks to a person that could drive me home and TTH was bus from transit to college, bus to transit, bus for an HOUR back to Home Depot, walk two miles (about 30 minutes of a walk). Now, I didn't mind walking (I DDR enough) but that was an inconvenience that the bus couldn't carry out to the apartment complex that I was at even though the drivers that I talked to said it'd probably be only 3-5 minutes extra out of their way and they'd actually net quite a bit extra if they opened up out there.

Oh well, I don't ride with them anymore. I moved. I'll be moving again too. But I don't mind riding them when I have to.

I took the pass back to the place I bought it from, turns out it WASNT expired. The machine on the bus must have been broken and the driver was an idiot. I happen to get the same bus and driver tommorow morning and he trys to pull the same stunt I swear I will punch him in the face. >

Odd. I never heard any complaints about buses in my city. I rarely ride them myself, but I know a lot of people who do. But it can be expected that the buses in huge cities such as NYC are going to be worse than those in a smaller city.

My older brother once told me that one of his friends wasn't allowed on the bus. He (my brother) had a bus pass that allowed for the free admission of one companion. The kicker is that he was allowed to take someone on the bus earlier that day, but the driver of the bus at that time rejected it from some strange reason.

I pay just under $35 for my monthly bus pass; without it, I'd probably have to pay around $100 for transit, give or take a few bucks since the fare is $2.50.

Of course, your fare covers both the bus and the metro if that's how you have to get around. Transfers work for 90 minutes, but they're useless with a pass.

I don't know anything about the buses back home, but up here on/around campus tuition covers bus fare. Very convenient for people off-campus with no car, or people on campus going places without hiking out to get their cars.

See, what mystifies me about the buses here is that in some areas, they are excellent. Public Transport if you live in some suburbs is superb, you can get places quickly, with minimal hassle, on a clean new-ish bus in good repair.

And then there are areas that are just complete NOTHING as far as Public Transport.

And what makes it mystifying is that it's not the suburbs you'd think that have good public transport or bad public transport. It's just some random crapshoot it seems.

I don't get how the transport dept works.

I have a card that gives me a discount so I just have to put $29 on the pass and it lasts for the whole month.

Most of the bus drivers are nice here but there are assholes too.

This monthly crap sounds annoying.
Any school student here (except for uni students...who get everything half fare) gets both train and bus fare for free. The busses here are pretty good though. Air-conditioning, the whole lot.

Oh yeah, my pass works for train tickets too but only in the county I live in.

Quite good to use when you´re late for school.

Punch him in the face, punch him in the face!!

Nah, but I don't see why your own school doesn't give you any type of discount on your ID card or anything. I know most of the universities and colleges here make it free or just discounted. Too bad If I forget my ID card, like today, and they ask to see it I won't have it and they might write me a ticket .

Luckily the 6 Train is the best one. At least the announcements is good and it's the cleanest on most stations except Brook Avenue which is the worse station. Yep, I had to be here.

Mass transit sucks in general. I hated the busses when I was in the UK, busses and trains are just so awful. No more busses for me, ever. I don't care if my car gets 12 mpg, IT'S WORTH IT. Public transportation sucks just because it's public, if for no other reason.

I've pretty much always used mass transit. I've always preferred it, mostly because its cheaper than me to use than a car and I've always (until VERY recently) used it for free.

I wouldn't use public transport even if it was free. It's not worth the inconvinence. Schuling my day around some bus schedule, putting up with other passangers, and so on. No thanks.

Than what? Looking like every other fucking red neck? I hate cars, and I live in Canada...my M-Class license allows me to use a motor bike - which is what I'd use. However, there is this giant stretch of time from November-March that prohibits my use of said bike.

Use a horse.

Or a Llama.

Seriously. Llama's are friendly.

I can just imagine the headlines now. "Hairy Warrior rides llama in search of something greater"

See, for me driving my car is more inconvenient (and costly). I don't mind other passengers that much. They stay out of my way, I stay out of theirs.

It costs me $2.29 to get to work, and another $2.29 to get home each day. I get dropped off in Victoria Square which is only a few hundred metres away from work, and I walk.

If I drive however, it would probably cost me less in petrol, however it costs $8.50 to park ($9.50 on Thursdays and Fridays) in the City. That's assuming that I am lucky enough to get a park in the well priced car park... sometimes you can't get a park anywhere but the one that costs you $22.-- to park in for the day.

So, the bus or train is MUCH more convenient.

Course if I worked somewhere outside of the CBD, my car would be better and parking would be cheaper (or free)

It's not about the price. Some things, like working your schedule to fit some bus timetable and putting up with the people on the busses, just isn't worth it.

Not that it matters ultimately. Busses are nonexistant here anyway.
