Glenn let out a small sigh, deciding to let the subject of his feelings for Miss Hikari slide for now, since they were actually making progress.

Glenn: Glenn Hawking. And time is of the essence.

JD: They call me "JD."

Kiyone: And we're Rangers First Class Kiyone and Mihoshi. We'll just stay here and guard the gold until you all return with the water.

Shrubbery Jaku looked at Johnathan.

Shrubbery Jaku: Oy! Tha's Shrubbery Jaku, like Ah said earlier. Ah don't mind if ye gimme a shorter name, but a'least remember me name. And ya, tha's Pikar. Ah jus' call 'im Pikko.

A small platform was finally lowered. It seemed like it would've been enough to fit everyone and Pikar's hog on it. Of course, Jaku knew he wasn't going to be getting a lot of riders on..

Shrubbery Jaku: Ah... Thanks, Emfermi.

The pink fairy slowly hovered down next to Jaku.

Fayette Enformi: Yeah yeah...

Shurbbery Jaku: A'right! You blokes ev one last chance befere Ah head on up.

Pikar nodded, agreeing with the introduction Jaku'd thrown out to the rest of the group. Though, without saying another word, he took to the skies and climbed awkwardly onto his cycle - almost, like he was trying to scale Washington's nose on Mount Rushmore without a rope. A spectacle to behold.ˆ

Pikar: Well, if yous want to take th' ride w'th me, hop on. Le's get it hummin', Vinny.

Johnathan: "Very well, then. But can we please make haste? My concern for Miss Hikari grows by the second, and we seem to be doing nothing but wasting precious time! Time that we could be spending finding that tail, or in the very least figuring out what to do about the Koktari when they realize that we are entering their precious Southern Bowl without any kind of permission..."

He steps aboard the platform, and then suddenly realizes he's floating in the middle of a desert on a platform suspended by seemingly nothing. His eyes widen.

"Wait, are we standing on a platform suspended by nothing? No mechanism, no suspension device, just a simple manifestation of, dare I say, magic?"

Glenn: Now you act concerned, eh? And in case you didn't notice, we have one Koktari's permission, and the others are likely in too much danger to mind.

Jaku felt like he should've been glaring at Johnathan. The platform was starting to move up.. but it wasn't as fast as Johnathan wanted...

Shrubbery Jaku: Sorry, mate. But if ya want speed, yer gunna efta go with Pikko there...

Johnathan cast a sidelong glance at Glenn, one that suggested he not tread so lightly.

Johnathan: "Though you have clearly failed to notice, I have been concerned this entire time. Do not accost me for idleness, when you yourself have until recently felt the need to pussyfoot around with such a light view of the situation."

He harumphed, and stepped off the slow-moving platform, onto a fresh sheet of ice that had formed beneath his feet.

"It is supererogatory to burden Pikar, when I am capable of traveling of my own conation. I will instead meet you all at the top."

He bent his knees and kicked his rear heel downward, sending his ice board into an upward spiral. The rest of the group could do without him for a while, he was sure.

Glenn simply glared in Jonathan’s direction as the former engineer as he floated out of sight. He wanted to yell back at him about how Jonathan wasn't best friends with Hikari... How Jonathan hadn't grown up being best friends with Hikari... How Jonathan didn't go to bed each night looking forward to the next day because he'd be able to discuss whatever book he was currently reading with Hikari... About how the only reason he hadn't been rushing everyone this entire time is because he had been given the duty of keeping an eye on Nova and JD, a duty which he'd already half failed... And about how the dilemma caused by the combination of that duty and his concern for Hikari was tearing him apart.

But, no. He couldn't yell those things... Jonathan was out of ear-shot, anyway... and JD was still certainly within it. All he could do is sit down and mutter under his breath.

Glenn: ... Ass.

Then, closing his eyes, Glenn reached in his shirt and pulled out a pendant he always wore around his neck. Three blue, sapphire-like gems held together by a somewhat Y-shaped piece of golden metal. It wasn't real, of course, but that wasn't important. It was a symbol which represented Glenn's goddess of choice, Nayru. Looking at it, he remembered that Christmas, years ago, when Hikari had given it to him. Glenn wasn't normally one given to prayer, but he was praying for Nayru to protect Hikari now... while he himself could not.

The sun was slowly creeping up in the horizon. It was going to be a new day at Outset Ranch. Nalon was already up, though a bit earlier than usual. As she stepped outside of the house, she noticed a rather large figure stepping towards the ranch.

Nalon: What in tarn...

Nalon realized it was that Gato robot that Kurima was dealing with yesterday. It seemed to have calmed down and actually headed back to the ranch on its own accord. All of a sudden, an arrow appeared infront of Gato. Gato froze in his tracks.

Nalon: Hikari!

Nalon looked behind her and saw Hikari, who was looking like the bed had beaten her up. Half of Hikari's face was covered in hair, while the other part was covered in sweat.

Nalon: Git back in the house, Hikari! Your suppos' ta be restin'!

Hikari didn't respond. All she was doing was panting. Nalon let out an annoyed grunt as she grabbed Hikari and dragged the girl back to bed.

Gato stood a few more seconds, and then turned around and started walking back into the wilderness.

--------------------------------

The platform was still heading upwards, although very slowly. Jaku decided to pull out a didgerido. He started playing some elevating platform music.

Meanwhile, Johnathan was high enough to see inside the South Eastern Bowl. At first glance, Johnathan saw what could be confused as a piece of food rotting away. However, it was actually a massive amount of plantlife, the likes which hasn't been seen by humans for ages. Trees, flowers, just about greenage everywhere. And flowing between trees was purple water..... And there didn't seem to be any sign of the koktaris around..

Johnathan: "What... How curious..."

He closed in on the land with caution, setting aground on a clearing of underbrush and examining the surrounding foliage. Noticing the purple water, he floated his block of ice over it, and sank it inside of the rushing violet. At least then he would be able to see if the water was hot, or if it ate away at anyone who fell in...

"This must be just an outrunning sample of the contamination. Hm. The sooner I find that Gohma Queen, the sooner I can get back to Outset... And Miss Hikari."

He set off towards the center of the bowl, sifting through the plant life as he went. Every so often, he would pull out a small notebook and scrawl down whatever he could identify, some kind of long-lost species of fern or Acer rubrum. Needless to say, it wasn't much. Mechanics didn't have a very good grasp of nature. As such, he did not let his curiousity deter his journey.

Shrubbery Jaku: 'Ere we go. Welcome ta the inside of the Sou-Easy Bowl! If ye efn't noticed by now, i's ill advised ta be drinkin' the watah. Dunno what it'll do if ya touch it, but le's not find out, alright?

The platform had stopped infront of a large hole. The hole gave off a decent view of all the plantlife inside.

Shrubbery Jaku: An' try to keep yer wits about, especially 'round the tall grass. By the time you realize there're tails behind you, those gomme buggers will ef already started jumpin' all over ya.

-------------------

Johnathan should have noticed by now that he hasnt seen any signs of life, aside from the foilage.

And as strange as it may be, there were no creatures that suddenly popped out of nowhere to harm him after the realization.

Johnathan continued along, far ahead of the rest of the group, almost as if he were scouting. He approached a stream, and noted the purplish water... It was diluted by something. He scooped up a handful of the water, and eyed it carefully. Yes...

A much larger portion of the water floated in the air before him, a violet bubble of contaminated dihydrogen monoxide. He reached out and touched the ball of water, separating the liquid from its contaminants. What remained in his hand was a deep red powder, thick with the smell of blood and suffering. He drew a vial from his long, protective coat, and began capping the powder inside the vial. A concentrated form of this chemical would be an interesting specimen to study.

Once he had retrieved enough to satisfy his curiousity, Johnathan rose to his feet and pressed on. Soon, he thought, he would reach the source of this flowing water. Then he would get to the bottom of this mystery, and finally acquire a gohma tail, at long last.

JD: The water...

For the first time thusfar, JD's hat and hair were out of his face enough for one of his eyes to be clearly seen. This was because his right hand was on his face, raising the had and hair and covering the other eye. His visable eye was wide with terror... Terror of a memory long passed... Of water stained dark purple by the saturation of crimson blood... Overtaken by this memory, JD fell to his knees.

Glenn: Are you...?

Glenn moved to touch JD's shoulder, but the motion snapped JD out of his memory. He lowered his hand back to his side as he stood, allowing his hair and hat to fall back into place. What could still be seen of his face was completely emotionless.

JD: We'd best get a move on.

Fayette Enformi: Jaku.. Are you sure it was okay to bring these humans in?

Shrubbery Jaku: Ah, don' worry, Emfermi. A Gomme Queen's much more trouble than a packa humos, heh.

Fayette Enformi: Gee, you sure sound confident, Jaku.

Shrubbery Jaku: Jus' makin' it clear to these blokes incase they feel like gettin' frisky... Now.. are ye done with the drama, mate? Lesgo.

Johnathan's goal might be approaching him sooner than he hoped for. The tall grass nearby started to shake, but nothing was coming out...

Johnathan said little, taking handfuls of grass by the root and eyeing them closely as he walked. The base of one particularly thick blade stuck out to him, and he looked it over carefully. He noted that, in spite of the contaminated water, the plant life in this bowl seemed to be flourishing. Perhaps only non-plant lifeforms were adversely affected by the water?

But there was fungi here and there on the trees... So mayhaps it was only animals. He couldn't help but notice there had been none to waylay him in his journey.

There was a small knob on Johnathan's spectacles, easily mistaken for a screw or an adornment to the unscrutinizing eye. Johnathan reached to his glasses to press it, and the lenses in them shifted slightly to magnify his view of the grass root. It was covered in the same powder as was distilled from the water. Johnathan figured this was a natural rejection of the distillate until he observed the traces of dirt on the roots.

They had been integrated together, like some kind of powerful fertilizer. One that was hazardous to humans. Could this be the reason for the rare and exotic plant life here?

Once again, the tall blades of grass shook. However, this time, something emerged from the grass. It appeared to have been the tail of a creature. It looked quite familar.... Something similar to what had poisoned Hikari the other day..

Infact, there seemed to have been several of the same creature, surrounding Johnathan on all directions...

Wasting no more time, the creatures, all gohma spawns, leapt out of the thick brush and pounced on Johnathan.

-----------------

Shrubbery Jaku: If we're there, don't y'think we woulda been attacked by the Gomme Queen?

Fayette Enformi: Watch out!

And right on cue, a large, arachnid-like beast leapt out from a nearby source of poisoned water, and landed before the group. Jaku quickly hopped backwards several times, avoiding the poisoned droplets falling off of the Gohma Queen's body. The giant beast's single eye moved around, and then locked onto the group.

Johnathan: "I see. Storm Gust!!!"

A faint glow surrounded Johnathan for a split-second, and the streams of water around him rose into the air, purifying themselves and forming into fist-sized balls of water. The water balls froze into shards of ice, which swirled around him like a localized blizzard, batting Gohma spawn to and fro with ease. The creatures continued to leap at him as he stayed planted firmly in place, calmly watching as the shield of ice flowed like a dome of frozen doom. Spawn after spawn was kicked backwards by the attack, and Johnathan nonchalantly wondered how long he'd have to keep this up before the pack thought of something new, or someone came along to try to rescue him. In any case, as long as he had to keep concentrating on this, he'd have to stop observing...

Glenn: Aim for the eye!

JD: Gotcha!

And before anyone could blink, JD had his guns out and was shooting at the Gohma Queen's eye.
